إِنَّ
Surely
ٱللَّهَ
the One is
لَا
not
يَسْتَحْىِۦٓ
ashamed
أَن
that
يَضْرِبَ
He cites
مَثَلًۭا
a simile of
مَّا
what is
بَعُوضَةًۭ
a tiny little thing,
فَمَا
then what is
فَوْقَهَا
more over it.
ۚ
فَأَمَّا
So as for
ٱلَّذِينَ
the ones who
ءَامَنُوا۟
believed
فَيَعْلَمُونَ
thus know
أَنَّهُ
that it is
ٱلْحَقُّ
the truth
مِن
from
رَّبِّهِمْ
their Rabb.
ۖ
وَأَمَّا
And as for
ٱلَّذِينَ
the ones who
كَفَرُوا۟
are in denial
فَيَقُولُونَ
they just keep saying,
مَاذَآ
[What here
أَرَادَ
intended
ٱللَّهُ
the One
بِهَٰذَا
with this
مَثَلًۭا
simile?]
ۘ
يُضِلُّ
Misguided are
بِهِۦ
through it
كَثِيرًۭا
many,
وَيَهْدِى
and guided
بِهِۦ
through it
كَثِيرًۭا
are many.
ۚ
وَمَا
But not
يُضِلُّ
are misguided
بِهِۦٓ
through it
إِلَّا
except
ٱلْفَٰسِقِينَ
the liberals.
٢
٢٦
إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يَسْتَحْىِۦٓ أَن يَضْرِبَ مَثَلًۭا مَّا بَعُوضَةًۭ فَمَا فَوْقَهَا ۚ فَأَمَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ فَيَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّهُ ٱلْحَقُّ مِن رَّبِّهِمْ ۖ وَأَمَّا ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ فَيَقُولُونَ مَاذَآ أَرَادَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَٰذَا مَثَلًۭا ۘ يُضِلُّ بِهِۦ كَثِيرًۭا وَيَهْدِى بِهِۦ كَثِيرًۭا ۚ وَمَا يُضِلُّ بِهِۦٓ إِلَّا ٱلْفَٰسِقِينَ Surely the One is not ashamed that He cites a simile of what is a tiny little thing, then what is more over it. So as for the ones who believed thus know that it is the truth from their Rabb. And as for the ones who are in denial they just keep saying, [What here intended the One with this simile?] Misguided are through it many, and guided through it are many. But not are misguided through it except the liberals.

Lo! Allah disdaineth not to coin the similitude even of a gnat. Those who believe know that it is the truth from their Lord; but those who disbelieve say: What doth Allah wish (to teach) by such a similitude? He misleadeth many thereby, and He guideth many thereby; and He misleadeth thereby only miscreants; - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Indeed Allah is not ashamed to draw a parable whether it is that of a gnat or something above it. As for those who have faith, they know it is the truth from their Lord; and as for the faithless, they say, [What did Allah mean by this parable?] Thereby He leads many astray, and thereby He guides many; and He leads no one astray thereby except the transgressors - Qarai, Ali Quli

God does not hesitate to set forth parables of anything even a gnat. The believers know that it is the truth from their Lord, but those who deny the truth say, [What does God mean by such parables?] In fact, by such parables God misleads and guides many. However, He only misleads the evil doers - Sarwar, Muhammad

Surely Allah is not ashamed to set forth any parable-- (that of) a gnat or any thing above that; then as for those who believe, they know that it is the truth from their Lord, and as for those who disbelieve, they say: What is it that Allah means by this parable: He causes many to err by it and many He leads aright by it! but He does not cause to err by it (any) except the transgressors, - Shakir, Habib

God does not disdain to give a parable about a gnat or a smaller creature. The faithful know that it is the truth from their Lord, but those who deny the truth ask, [What could God mean by this parable?] He lets many go astray through it, and guides many by it. But He makes only the disobedient go astray: - Wahiduddin Khan

اللہ اس بات میں کوئی شرم نہیں محسوس کرتا کہ وہ مچھر یا اس سے بھی کمتر کی مثال بیان کرے. اب جو صاحبانِ ایمان ہیں وہ جانتے ہیں کہ یہ سب پروردگار کی طرف سے بر حق ہے اور جنہوں نے کفر اختیار کیا ہے وہ یہی کہتے ہیں کہ آخر ان مثالوں سے خدا کا مقصد کیا ہے. خدا اسی طرح بہت سے لوگوں کو گمراہی میں چھوڑ دیتا ہے اور بہت سوں کو ہدایت دے دیتا ہے اور گمراہی صرف انہیں کا حصّہ ہے جو فاسق ہیں - Jawadi, Zeeshan

ہاں، اللہ اس سے ہرگز نہیں شرماتا کہ مچھر یا اس سے بھی حقیر تر کسی چیز کی تمثیلیں دے جو لوگ حق بات کو قبول کرنے والے ہیں، وہ انہی تمثیلوں کو دیکھ کر جان لیتے ہیں کہ یہ حق ہے جو ان کے رب ہی کی طرف سے آیا ہے، اور جو ماننے والے نہیں ہیں، وہ انہیں سن کر کہنے لگتے ہیں کہ ایسی تمثیلوں سے اللہ کو کیا سروکار؟ اس طرح اللہ ایک ہی بات سے بہتوں کو گمراہی میں مبتلا کر دیتا ہے اور بہتوں کو راہ راست دکھا دیتا ہے اور گمراہی میں وہ انہی کو مبتلا کرتا ہے، جو فاسق ہیں - Maududi, Abul A'ala

بیشک اللہ اس سے حیا نہیں فرماتا کہ مثال سمجھانے کو کیسی ہی چیز کا ذکر فرمائے مچھر ہو یا اس سے بڑھ کر تو وہ جو ایمان لائے، وہ تو جانتے ہیں کہ یہ ان کے رب کی طرف سے حق ہے رہے کافر، وہ کہتے ہیں ایسی کہاوت میں اللہ کا کیا مقصُود ہے، اللہ بہتیروں کو اس سے گمراہ کرتا ہے اور بہتیروں کو ہدایت فرماتا ہے اور اس سے انہیں گمراہ کرتا ہے جو بے حکم ہیں- - Ahmed Raza

بے شک اللہ اس بات سے ہرگز نہیں شرماتا کہ (کسی مطلب کی وضاحت کے لئے) مچھر اور اس سے بھی بڑھ کر (کسی حقیر چیز) کی مثال بیان کرے۔ پس جو لوگ مؤمن ہیں وہ تو جانتے ہیں کہ یہ (مثال یقینا) حق ہے ان کے پروردگار کی طرف سے اور جو کافر ہیں وہ کہتے ہیں کہ ایسی مثال سے اللہ کا کیا مقصد ہے؟ اللہ ایسی مثال سے بہت سوں کو گمراہی میں چھوڑ دیتا ہے اور بہت سوں کو ہدایت کرتا ہے اور وہ گمراہی میں نہیں چھوڑتا مگر فاسقوں (نافرمانوں) کو۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

The ones who
يَنقُضُونَ
break
عَهْدَ
covenant of
ٱللَّهِ
the One
مِنۢ

مِيثَٰقِهِۦ
its ratification,
وَيَقْطَعُونَ
and they disconnect
مَآ
what
أَمَرَ
commanded
ٱللَّهُ
the One
بِهِۦٓ
through it (through that covenant),
أَن
that which
يُوصَلَ
they should keep connected,
وَيُفْسِدُونَ
and they do corruption
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
the land.
ۚ
أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ
They are
هُمُ
those
ٱلْخَٰسِرُونَ
who have lost.

٢٧
ٱلَّذِينَ يَنقُضُونَ عَهْدَ ٱللَّهِ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مِيثَٰقِهِۦ وَيَقْطَعُونَ مَآ أَمَرَ ٱللَّهُ بِهِۦٓ أَن يُوصَلَ وَيُفْسِدُونَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْخَٰسِرُونَ The ones who break covenant of the One from after its ratification, and they disconnect what commanded the One through it (through that covenant), that which they should keep connected, and they do corruption in the land. They are those who have lost.

Those who break the covenant of Allah after ratifying it, and sever that which Allah ordered to be joined, and (who) make mischief in the earth: Those are they who are the losers. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

How can
تَكْفُرُونَ
you deny
بِٱللَّهِ
about the One,
وَكُنتُمْ
that while you were
أَمْوَٰتًۭا
lifeless (did not exist)
فَأَحْيَٰكُمْ
then you were given life (made to exist),
ۖ
ثُمَّ
then
يُمِيتُكُمْ
He will make you die,
ثُمَّ
then
يُحْيِيكُمْ
He gives you life,
ثُمَّ
then
إِلَيْهِ
to Him
تُرْجَعُونَ
you will return?

كَيْفَ تَكْفُرُونَ بِٱللَّهِ وَكُنتُمْ أَمْوَٰتًۭا فَأَحْيَٰكُمْ ۖ ثُمَّ يُمِيتُكُمْ ثُمَّ يُحْيِيكُمْ ثُمَّ إِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ How can you deny about the One, that while you were lifeless (did not exist) then you were given life (made to exist), then He will make you die, then He gives you life, then to Him you will return?

How disbelieve ye in Allah when ye were dead and He gave life to you! Then He will give you death, then life again, and then unto Him ye will return. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

How can you be unfaithful to Allah, [seeing that] you were lifeless and He gave you life, then He will make you die and then bring you to life, and then you will be brought back to Him? - Qarai, Ali Quli

How dare you deny the existence of God Who gave you life when you initially had no life. He will cause you to die and bring you to life again. Then you will return to His Presence. - Sarwar, Muhammad

تم اللہ کے ساتھ کفر کا رویہ کیسے اختیار کرتے ہو حالانکہ تم بے جان تھے، اس نے تم کو زندگی عطا کی، پھر وہی تمھاری جان سلب کرے گا، پھر وہی تمہیں دوبارہ زندگی عطا کرے گا، پھر اسی کی طرف تمہیں پلٹ کر جانا ہے - Maududi, Abul A'ala

هُوَ
He is
ٱلَّذِى
the Entity who
خَلَقَ
created
لَكُم
for you
مَّا

فِى
within
ٱلْأَرْضِ
the Earth
جَمِيعًۭا
collectively,
ثُمَّ
then
ٱسْتَوَىٰٓ
equalized it
إِلَى
with
ٱلسَّمَآءِ
the atmosphere,
فَسَوَّىٰهُنَّ
thus harmonized it in
سَبْعَ
multiple
سَمَٰوَٰتٍۢ
atmospheres;
ۚ
وَهُوَ
and He is
بِكُلِّ
about all
شَىْءٍ
things
عَلِيمٌۭ
well informed.
٢
٢٩
هُوَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ لَكُم مَّا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ جَمِيعًۭا ثُمَّ ٱسْتَوَىٰٓ إِلَى ٱلسَّمَآءِ فَسَوَّىٰهُنَّ سَبْعَ سَمَٰوَٰتٍۢ ۚ وَهُوَ بِكُلِّ شَىْءٍ عَلِيمٌۭ He is the Entity who created for you what is within the Earth collectively, then equalized it with the atmosphere, thus harmonized it in multiple atmospheres; and He is about all things well informed.

He it is Who created for you all that is in the earth. Then turned He to the heaven, and fashioned it as seven heavens. And He is knower of all things. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

وہی ہے جس نے تمہارے لئے بنایا جو کچھ زمین میں ہے۔ پھر آسمان کی طرف استوا (قصد) فرمایا تو ٹھیک سات آسمان بنائے وہ سب کچھ جانتا ہے - - Ahmed Raza

And when
قَالَ
said
رَبُّكَ
your Rabb
لِلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ
to the malaikati,
إِنِّى
[I am
جَاعِلٌۭ
to place
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
the Earth
خَلِيفَةًۭ
a viceroy (My representative)],
ۖ
قَالُوٓا۟
they replied,
أَتَجْعَلُ
[Why do You place
فِيهَا
therein
مَن
who
يُفْسِدُ
does corruption
فِيهَا
in there,
وَيَسْفِكُ
and sheds
ٱلدِّمَآءَ
the blood,
وَنَحْنُ
while we
نُسَبِّحُ
work hard
بِحَمْدِكَ
with Your power
وَنُقَدِّسُ
and we are dedicated
لَكَ
to You?].
ۖ
قَالَ
He said,
إِنِّىٓ
[I am
أَعْلَمُ
knowing of
مَا
what
لَا
not
تَعْلَمُونَ
you know.]

٣٠
وَإِذْ قَالَ رَبُّكَ لِلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ إِنِّى جَاعِلٌۭ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ خَلِيفَةًۭ ۖ قَالُوٓا۟ أَتَجْعَلُ فِيهَا مَن يُفْسِدُ فِيهَا وَيَسْفِكُ ٱلدِّمَآءَ وَنَحْنُ نُسَبِّحُ بِحَمْدِكَ وَنُقَدِّسُ لَكَ ۖ قَالَ إِنِّىٓ أَعْلَمُ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ And when said your Rabb to the malaikati, [I am to place in the Earth a viceroy (My representative)], they replied, [Why do You place therein who does corruption in there, and sheds the blood, while we work hard with Your power and we are dedicated to You?]. He said, [I am knowing of what not you know.]

And when thy Lord said unto the angels: Lo! I am about to place a viceroy in the earth, they said: Wilt thou place therein one who will do harm therein and will shed blood, while we, we hymn Thy praise and sanctify Thee? He said: Surely I know that which ye know not. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

When your Lord said to the angels, [Indeed I am going to set a viceroy on the earth,] they said, [Will You set in it someone who will cause corruption in it and shed blood, while we celebrate Your praise and proclaim Your sanctity?] He said, [Indeed I know what you do not know.] - Qarai, Ali Quli

When your Lord said to the angels, [I am appointing someone as my deputy on earth,] they said (almost protesting), [Are you going to appoint one who will commit corruption and bloodshed therein, even though we (are the ones who) commemorate Your Name and glorify You?] The Lord said, [I know that which you do not know]. - Sarwar, Muhammad

And when your Lord said to the angels, I am going to place in the earth a khalif, they said: What! wilt Thou place in it such as shall make mischief in it and shed blood, and we celebrate Thy praise and extol Thy holiness? He said: Surely I know what you do not know. - Shakir, Habib

When your Lord said to the angels, [I am putting a successor on earth,] they said, [Will You place someone there who will cause corruption on it and shed blood, while we glorify You with Your praise and extol Your holiness?] [God] answered, [Surely, I know that which you do not know.] - Wahiduddin Khan

اے رسول. اس وقت کو یاد کرو جب تمہارے پروردگار نے ملائکہ سے کہا کہ میں زمین میں اپنا خلیفہ بنانے والا ہوں اور انہوں نے کہا کہ کیا اسے بنائے گاجو زمین میں فساد برپا کرے اور خونریزی کرے جب کہ ہم تیری تسبیح اور تقدیس کرتے ہیں توارشاد ہوا کہ میں وہ جانتا ہوں جو تم نہیں جانتے ہو - Jawadi, Zeeshan

پھر ذرا اس وقت کا تصور کرو جب تمہارے رب نے فرشتوں سے کہا تھا کہ ——میں زمین میں ایک خلیفہ بنانے والا ہوں—— انہوں نے عرض کیا: ——کیا آپ زمین میں کسی ایسے کو مقر ر کرنے والے ہیں، جو اس کے انتظام کو بگاڑ دے گا اور خونریزیاں کرے گا آپ کی حمد و ثنا کے ساتھ تسبیح اور آپ کے لیے تقدیس تو ہم کر ہی رہے ہیں—— فرمایا: ——میں جانتا ہوں جو کچھ تم نہیں جانتے—— - Maududi, Abul A'ala

اور یاد کرو جب تمہارے رب نے فرشتوں سے فرمایا، میں زمین میں اپنا نائب بنانے والا ہوں بولے کیا ایسے کو نائب کرے گا جو اس میں فساد پھیلائے گا اور خونریزیاں کرے گا اور ہم تجھے سراہتے ہوئے، تیری تسبیح کرتے اور تیری پاکی بولتے ہیں، فرمایا مجھے معلوم ہے جو تم نہیں جانتے- - Ahmed Raza

(اے رسول وہ وقت یاد کرو) جب تمہارے پروردگار نے فرشتوں سے کہا کہ میں زمین پر ایک خلیفہ (جانشین) بنانے والا ہوں تو انہوں نے کہا کیا تو اس میں اس کو (خلیفہ) بنائے گا جو اس میں فساد پھیلائے گا اور خون ریزی کرے گا۔ حالانکہ ہم تیری حمد و ثنائ کے ساتھ تسبیح کرتے ہیں اور تیری تقدیس (پاکیزگی بیان) کرتے ہیں۔ فرمایا: یقینا میں وہ کچھ جانتا ہوں جو تم نہیں جانتے۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

And He taught
ءَادَمَ
Adam
ٱلْأَسْمَآءَ
the qualities of
كُلَّهَا
all of them,
ثُمَّ
then
عَرَضَهُمْ
displayed them
عَلَى
on
ٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ
the malaikati
فَقَالَ
then said,
أَنۢبِـُٔونِى
[Inform Me
بِأَسْمَآءِ
about the qualities
هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ
of these
إِن
if
كُنتُمْ
you are
صَٰدِقِينَ
truthful.]
٢
٣١
وَعَلَّمَ ءَادَمَ ٱلْأَسْمَآءَ كُلَّهَا ثُمَّ عَرَضَهُمْ عَلَى ٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ فَقَالَ أَنۢبِـُٔونِى بِأَسْمَآءِ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ إِن كُنتُمْ صَٰدِقِينَ And He taught Adam the qualities of all of them, then displayed them on the malaikati then said, [Inform Me about the qualities of these if you are truthful.]

And He taught Adam all the names, then showed them to the angels, saying: Inform Me of the names of these, if ye are truthful. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

And He taught Adam the Names, all of them; then presented them to the angels and said, [Tell me the names of these, if you are truthful.] - Qarai, Ali Quli

He taught Adam all the names. Then He introduced (some intelligent beings) to the angels, asking them to tell Him the names of these beings, if the angels were true to their claim (that they more deserved to be His deputies on earth). - Sarwar, Muhammad

And He taught Adam all the names, then presented them to the angels; then He said: Tell me the names of those if you are right. - Shakir, Habib

He taught Adam all the names, then He set them before the angels and said, [Tell Me the names of these, if what you say be true.] - Wahiduddin Khan

اور خدا نے آدم علیھ السّلام کو تمام اسمائ کی تعلیم دی اور پھر ان سب کو ملائکہ کے سامنے پیش کرکے فرمایا کہ ذرا تم ان سب کے نام تو بتاؤ اگر تم اپنے خیالِ استحقاق میں سچّے ہو - Jawadi, Zeeshan

اس کے بعد اللہ نے آدمؑ کو ساری چیزوں کے نام سکھائے، پھر انہیں فرشتوں کے سامنے پیش کیا اور فرمایا ——اگر تمہارا خیال صحیح ہے (کہ کسی خلیفہ کے تقرر سے انتظام بگڑ جائے گا) تو ذرا ان چیزوں کے نام بتاؤ—— - Maududi, Abul A'ala

اور اللہ تعالیٰ نے آدم کو تمام (اشیاء کے) نام سکھائے پھر سب (اشیاء) کو ملائکہ پر پیش کرکے فرمایا سچے ہو تو ان کے نام تو بتاؤ - Ahmed Raza

قَالُوا۟
They said,
سُبْحَٰنَكَ
[We strive for You!
لَا
No
عِلْمَ
knowledge is
لَنَآ
with us
إِلَّا
except
مَا
what
عَلَّمْتَنَآ
You taught us.
ۖ
إِنَّكَ
Certainly You
أَنتَ
are
ٱلْعَلِيمُ
the Knowing,
ٱلْحَكِيمُ
the Judge.]
٢
٣٢
قَالُوا۟ سُبْحَٰنَكَ لَا عِلْمَ لَنَآ إِلَّا مَا عَلَّمْتَنَآ ۖ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلْعَلِيمُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ They said, [We strive for You! No knowledge is with us except what You taught us. Certainly You are the Knowing, the Judge.]

They said: Be glorified! We have no knowledge saving that which Thou hast taught us. Lo! Thou, only Thou, art the Knower, the Wise. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

They said, [Immaculate are You! We have no knowledge except what You have taught us. Indeed You are the All-knowing, the All-wise.] - Qarai, Ali Quli
⦿
The angels replied, [You are glorious indeed! We do not know more than what You have taught us. You alone are All-knowing and All-wise]. - Sarwar, Muhammad
⦿
They said: Glory be to Thee! we have no knowledge but that which Thou hast taught us; surely Thou art the Knowing, the Wise. - Shakir, Habib

They said, [Glory be to You; we have no knowledge except whatever You have taught us. You are the All Knowing, the All Wise.] - Wahiduddin Khan

ملائکہ نے عرض کی کہ ہم تو اتنا ہی جانتے ہیں جتنا تونے بتایا ہے کہ تو صاحبِ علم بھی ہے اور صاحبِ حکمت بھی - Jawadi, Zeeshan

انہوں نے عرض کیا: ——نقص سے پاک تو آپ ہی کی ذات ہے، ہم تو بس اتنا ہی علم رکھتے ہیں، جتنا آپ نے ہم کو دے دیا ہے حقیقت میں سب کچھ جاننے اور سمجھنے والا آپ کے سوا کوئی نہیں—— - Maududi, Abul A'ala

بولے پاکی ہے تجھے ہمیں کچھ علم نہیں مگر جتنا تو نے ہمیں سکھایا بے شک تو ہی علم و حکمت والا ہے - - Ahmed Raza

انہوں نے کہا (ہر نقص و عیب سے) تیری ذات پاک ہے۔ ہمیں اس کے سوا جو تو نے ہمیں تعلیم دیا ہے (سکھایا ہے) اور مزید کچھ علم نہیں ہے۔ بے شک تو بڑا علم والا اور بڑی حکمت والا ہے۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

(The One) said,
يَٰٓـَٔادَمُ
[O Adam!
أَنۢبِئْهُم
Inform them
بِأَسْمَآئِهِمْ
about their qualities.]
ۖ
فَلَمَّآ
So when
أَنۢبَأَهُم
informed them
بِأَسْمَآئِهِمْ
about their properties
قَالَ
(the One) said,
أَلَمْ
[Did not
أَقُل
I say
لَّكُمْ
to you
إِنِّىٓ
I am
أَعْلَمُ
knowing of
غَيْبَ
that what is unapparent of
ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ
the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ
and the Earth,
وَأَعْلَمُ
and knowing of
مَا
what
تُبْدُونَ
you reveal
وَمَا
and what
كُنتُمْ
you are
تَكْتُمُونَ
hiding?]

٣٣
قَالَ يَٰٓـَٔادَمُ أَنۢبِئْهُم بِأَسْمَآئِهِمْ ۖ فَلَمَّآ أَنۢبَأَهُم بِأَسْمَآئِهِمْ قَالَ أَلَمْ أَقُل لَّكُمْ إِنِّىٓ أَعْلَمُ غَيْبَ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَأَعْلَمُ مَا تُبْدُونَ وَمَا كُنتُمْ تَكْتُمُونَ (The One) said, [O Adam! Inform them about their qualities.] So when informed them about their properties (the One) said, [Did not I say to you I am knowing of that what is unapparent of the heavens and the Earth, and knowing of what you reveal and what you are hiding?]

He said: O Adam! Inform them of their names, and when he had informed them of their names, He said: Did I not tell you that I know the secret of the heavens and the earth? And I know that which ye disclose and which ye hide. - Pickthall, Marmaduke
⦿
He said, [O Adam, inform them of their names,] and when he had informed them of their names, He said, [Did I not tell you that I know the Unseen of the heavens and the earth, and that I know whatever you disclose and whatever you conceal?] - Qarai, Ali Quli
⦿
The Lord said to Adam, [Tell the names of the beings to the angels.] When Adam said their names, the Lord said, [Did I not tell you (angels) that I know the secrets of the heavens and the earth and all that you reveal or hide?] - Sarwar, Muhammad
⦿
He said: O Adam! inform them of their names. Then when he had informed them of their names, He said: Did I not say to you that I surely know what is ghaib in the heavens and the earth and (that) I know what you manifest and what you hide? - Shakir, Habib
⦿
Then He said, [O Adam, tell them their names.] When Adam had told them the names, God said to the angels, [Did I not say to you: I know the secrets of the heavens and of the earth, and I know what you reveal and what you conceal?] - Wahiduddin Khan

ارشاد ہوا کہ آدم علیھ السّلام اب تم انہیں باخبر کردو. تو جب آدم علیھ السّلام نے باخبر کردیا تو خدا نے فرمایا کہمیں نے تم سے نہ کہا تھا کہ میں آسمان و زمین کے غیب کو جانتا ہوں اور جو کچھ تم ظاہر کرتے ہو یا چھپاتے ہو سب کو جانتا ہوں - Jawadi, Zeeshan

پھر اللہ نے آدمؑ سے کہا: ——تم اِنہیں اِن چیزوں کے نام بتاؤ—— جب اس نے ان کو اُن سب کے نام بتا دیے، تو اللہ نے فرمایا: ——میں نے تم سے کہا نہ تھا کہ میں آسمانوں اور زمین کی وہ ساری حقیقتیں جانتا ہوں جو تم سے مخفی ہیں، جو کچھ تم ظاہر کرتے ہو، وہ بھی مجھے معلوم ہے اور جو کچھ تم چھپاتے ہو، اسے بھی میں جانتا ہوں—— - Maududi, Abul A'ala

فرمایا اے آدم بتادے انہیں سب (اشیاء کے) نام جب اس نے (یعنی آدم نے) انہیں سب کے نام بتادیئے فرمایا میں نہ کہتا تھا کہ میں جانتا ہوں آسمانوں اور زمین کی سب چھپی چیزیں اور میں جانتا ہوں جو کچھ تم ظاہر کرتے اور جو کچھ تم چھپاتے ہو - - Ahmed Raza

فرمایا: اے آدم تم ان کو ان کے نام بتاؤ۔ تو جب آدم نے ان (فرشتوں) کو ان کے نام بتا دیئے تو خدا نے فرمایا کیا میں نے تم سے نہیں کہا تھا کہ میں آسمانوں اور زمین کے سب مخفی رازوں کو جانتا ہوں اور وہ بھی جانتا ہوں جو تم ظاہر کر رہے ہو اور وہ بھی جو تم (اندرونِ دل) چھپائے ہوئے تھے۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

And when
قُلْنَا
We said
لِلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ
to the malaikati,
ٱسْجُدُوا۟
[Be executer of service
لِـَٔادَمَ
for Adam],
فَسَجَدُوٓا۟
so they gave in
إِلَّآ
except
إِبْلِيسَ
Iblees.
أَبَىٰ
He refused
وَٱسْتَكْبَرَ
and he flaunted his arrogance
وَكَانَ
and was
مِنَ
of
ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ
the denying ones.
٢
٣٤
وَإِذْ قُلْنَا لِلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ ٱسْجُدُوا۟ لِـَٔادَمَ فَسَجَدُوٓا۟ إِلَّآ إِبْلِيسَ أَبَىٰ وَٱسْتَكْبَرَ وَكَانَ مِنَ ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ And when We said to the malaikati, [Be executer of service for Adam], so they gave in except Iblees. He refused and he flaunted his arrogance and was of the denying ones.

And when We said unto the angels: Prostrate yourselves before Adam, they fell prostrate, all save Iblis. He demurred through pride, and so became a disbeliever. - Pickthall, Marmaduke
⦿
And when We said to the angels, [Prostrate before Adam,] they prostrated, but not Iblis: he refused and acted arrogantly, and he was one of the faithless. - Qarai, Ali Quli
⦿
When We told the angels to prostrate before Adam, they all obeyed except Iblis (Satan) who abstained out of pride and so he became one of those who deny the truth. - Sarwar, Muhammad
⦿
And when We said to the angels: Make obeisance to Adam they did obeisance, but Iblis (did it not). He refused and he was proud, and he was one of the unbelievers. - Shakir, Habib
⦿
When We said to the angels, [Bow down before Adam,] they all bowed except for Iblis [Satan]. He refused and acted proudly and became an unbeliever. - Wahiduddin Khan
⦿
اور یاد کرو وہ موقع جب ہم نے ملائکہ سے کہا کہ آدم علیھ السّلام کے لئے سجدہ کرو تو ابلیس کے علاوہ سب نے سجدہ کرلیا. اس نے انکار اور غرور سے کام لیا اور کافرین میں ہوگیا - Jawadi, Zeeshan

پھر جب ہم نے فرشتوں کو حکم دیا کہ آدمؑ کے آگے جھک جاؤ، تو سب جھک گئے، مگر ابلیس نے انکار کیا وہ اپنی بڑائی کے گھمنڈ میں پڑ گیا اور نافرمانوں میں شامل ہو گیا - Maududi, Abul A'ala

اور (یاد کرو) جب ہم نے فرشتوں کو حکم دیا کہ آدم کو سجدہ کو تو سب نے سجدہ کیا سوائے ابلیس کے کہ منکر ہوا اور غرور کیا اور کافر ہوگیا- - Ahmed Raza

اور (وہ وقت یاد کرو) جب ہم نے فرشتوں سے کہا کہ آدم کے سامنے سجدہ میں گر جاؤ ابلیس کے سوا سب سجدہ میں گر گئے۔ اس نے انکار و تکبر کیا اور کافروں میں سے ہوگیا۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

And We said,
يَٰٓـَٔادَمُ
[O Adam!
ٱسْكُنْ
Make home,
أَنتَ
you
وَزَوْجُكَ
and your mate,
ٱلْجَنَّةَ
the garden
وَكُلَا
and consume
مِنْهَا
from it
رَغَدًا
plentiful
حَيْثُ
from wherever
شِئْتُمَا
whatever you want,
وَلَا
but do not
تَقْرَبَا
come to
هَٰذِهِ
this
ٱلشَّجَرَةَ
dispute (which Iblees raised),
فَتَكُونَا
because then, you will be
مِنَ
of
ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ
the people in darkness.]

٣٥
وَقُلْنَا يَٰٓـَٔادَمُ ٱسْكُنْ أَنتَ وَزَوْجُكَ ٱلْجَنَّةَ وَكُلَا مِنْهَا رَغَدًا حَيْثُ شِئْتُمَا وَلَا تَقْرَبَا هَٰذِهِ ٱلشَّجَرَةَ فَتَكُونَا مِنَ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ And We said, [O Adam! Make home, you and your mate, the garden and consume from it plentiful from wherever whatever you want, but do not come to this dispute (which Iblees raised), because then, you will be of the people in darkness.]

And We said: O Adam! Dwell thou and thy wife in the Garden, and eat ye freely (of the fruits) thereof where ye will; but come not nigh this tree lest ye become wrong-doers. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

We said, [O Adam, dwell with your mate in paradise and eat thereof freely whencesoever you wish, but do not approach this tree, lest you should be among the wrongdoers.] - Qarai, Ali Quli

We told Adam to stay with his spouse (Eve) in the garden and enjoy the foods therein, but not to go near a certain tree lest he become one of the transgressors. - Sarwar, Muhammad

And We said: O Adam! Dwell you and your wife in the garden and eat from it a plenteous (food) wherever you wish and do not approach this tree, for then you will be of the unjust. - Shakir, Habib

اور ہم نے کہا کہ اے آدم علیھ السّلام! اب تم اپنی زوجہ کے ساتھ جنّت میں ساکن ہوجاؤ اور جہاں چاہو آرام سے کھاؤ صرف اس درخت کے قریب نہ جانا کہ اپنے اوپر ظلم کرنے والوں میں سے ہوجاؤگے - Jawadi, Zeeshan

پھر ہم نے آدمؑ سے کہا کہ ——تم اور تمہاری بیوی، دونوں جنت میں رہو اور یہاں بفراغت جو چاہو کھاؤ، مگر اس درخت کا رُخ نہ کرنا، ورنہ ظالموں میں شمار ہو گے—— - Maududi, Abul A'ala

اور ہم نے فرمایا اے آدم تو اور تیری بیوی جنت میں رہو اور کھاؤ اس میں سے بے روک ٹوک جہاں تمہارا جی چاہے مگر اس پیڑ کے پاس نہ جانا کہ حد سے بڑھنے والوں میں ہوجاؤ گے- - Ahmed Raza

فَأَزَلَّهُمَا
But then made them to slip
ٱلشَّيْطَٰنُ
the mentally retarding one
عَنْهَا
from it,
فَأَخْرَجَهُمَا
thus made them to exit
مِمَّا
from what
كَانَا
they were
فِيهِ
therein.
ۖ
وَقُلْنَا
And We said,
ٱهْبِطُوا۟
[Be of lower standard,
بَعْضُكُمْ
some of you
لِبَعْضٍ
for some others
عَدُوٌّۭ
being enemies;
ۖ
وَلَكُمْ
and for you
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
the land is
مُسْتَقَرٌّۭ
a dwelling
وَمَتَٰعٌ
and a provision
إِلَىٰ
till
حِينٍۢ
a period.]

٣٦
فَأَزَلَّهُمَا ٱلشَّيْطَٰنُ عَنْهَا فَأَخْرَجَهُمَا مِمَّا كَانَا فِيهِ ۖ وَقُلْنَا ٱهْبِطُوا۟ بَعْضُكُمْ لِبَعْضٍ عَدُوٌّۭ ۖ وَلَكُمْ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ مُسْتَقَرٌّۭ وَمَتَٰعٌ إِلَىٰ حِينٍۢ But then made them to slip the mentally retarding one from it, thus made them to exit from what they were therein. And We said, [Be of lower standard, some of you for some others being enemies; and for you in the land is a dwelling and a provision till a period.]

But Satan caused them to deflect therefrom and expelled them from the (happy) state in which they were; and We said: Fall down, one of you a foe unto the other! There shall be for you on earth a habitation and provision for a time. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Then Satan caused them to stumble from it, and he dislodged them from what [state] they were in; and We said, [Get down, being enemies of one another! On the earth shall be your abode and sustenance for a time.] - Qarai, Ali Quli

Satan made Adam and his spouse err and caused them to abandon the state in which they had been living. Then We said, [Descend, you are each other's enemies! The earth will be a dwelling place for you and it will provide you with sustenance for an appointed time. - Sarwar, Muhammad

But the Shaitan made them both fall from it, and caused them to depart from that (state) in which they were; and We said: Get forth, some of you being the enemies of others, and there is for you in the earth an abode and a provision for a time. - Shakir, Habib

But Satan caused them both to slip through this and thus brought about the loss of their former state. We said, [Go down from here as enemies to each other; and on earth you shall have your abode and your livelihood for a while!] - Wahiduddin Khan

تب شیطان نے انہیں فریب دینے کی کوشش کی اور انہیں ان نعمتوں سے باہر نکال لیا اور ہم نے کہا کہ اب تم سب زمین پر اترجاؤ وہاں ایک دوسرے کی دشمنی ہوگی اور وہیں تمہارا مرکز ہوگا اور ایک خاص وقت تک کے لئے عیش زندگانی رہےگی - Jawadi, Zeeshan

آخر کار شیطان نے ان دونوں کو اس درخت کی ترغیب دے کر ہمارے حکم کی پیروی سے ہٹا دیا اور انہیں اُس حالت سے نکلوا کر چھوڑا، جس میں وہ تھے ہم نے حکم دیا کہ، ——اب تم سب یہاں سے اتر جاؤ، تم ایک دوسرے کے دشمن ہو اور تمہیں ایک خاص وقت تک زمین ٹھیرنا اور وہیں گزر بسر کرنا ہے—— - Maududi, Abul A'ala

تو شیطان نے اس سے (یعنی جنت سے) انہیں لغزش دی اور جہاں رہتے تھے وہاں سے انہیں الگ کردیا اور ہم نے فرمایا نیچے اترو آپس میں ایک تمہارا دوسرے کا دشمن اور تمہیں ایک وقت تک زمین میں ٹھہرنا اور برتنا ہے - - Ahmed Raza

تب شیطان نے (اس درخت کے باعث) ان کے قدم پھسلائے۔ اور انہیں اس (عیش و آرام) سے نکلوا دیا جس میں وہ تھے اور ہم نے کہا اب تم (زمین پر) اتر جاؤ۔ ایک دوسرے کے دشمن ہو کر۔ اور تمہارے لئے زمین میں ایک (خاص) وقت تک ٹھہرنے اور فائدہ ا ٹھانے کا سامان موجود ہے۔ - Najafi, Muhammad
