وَٱلَّذِينَ
And the ones who
يَرْمُونَ
who accuse
ٱلْمُحْصَنَٰتِ
the upright women
ثُمَّ
then
لَمْ
not
يَأْتُوا۟
come forth
بِأَرْبَعَةِ
with four
شُهَدَآءَ
witnesses
فَٱجْلِدُوهُمْ
then whip them
ثَمَٰنِينَ
eighty
جَلْدَةًۭ
lashes,
وَلَا
and not
تَقْبَلُوا۟
accept
لَهُمْ
of them
شَهَٰدَةً
attestation
أَبَدًۭا
until further notice;
ۚ
وَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ
and those
هُمُ
are
ٱلْفَٰسِقُونَ
the liberals.
٢٤
٤
وَٱلَّذِينَ يَرْمُونَ ٱلْمُحْصَنَٰتِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَأْتُوا۟ بِأَرْبَعَةِ شُهَدَآءَ فَٱجْلِدُوهُمْ ثَمَٰنِينَ جَلْدَةًۭ وَلَا تَقْبَلُوا۟ لَهُمْ شَهَٰدَةً أَبَدًۭا ۚ وَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْفَٰسِقُونَ And the ones who who accuse the upright women then not come forth with four witnesses then whip them eighty lashes, and not accept of them attestation until further notice; and those are the liberals.
⦿
And those who accuse honourable women but bring not four witnesses, scourge them (with) eighty stripes and never (afterward) accept their testimony - They indeed are evil-doers - - Pickthall, Marmaduke

As for those who accuse chaste women and do not bring four witnesses, strike them eighty lashes, and never accept any testimony from them after that, and they are transgressors, - Qarai, Ali Quli
⦿
Those who accuse married women of committing adultery - but are not able to prove their accusation by producing four witness - must be flogged eighty lashes. Never accept their testimony thereafter because they are sinful, - Sarwar, Muhammad
⦿
And those who accuse free women then do not bring four witnesses, flog them, (giving) eighty stripes, and do not admit any evidence from them ever; and these it is that are the transgressors, - Shakir, Habib
⦿
Those who defame chaste women, but cannot produce four witnesses, shall be given eighty lashes. Do not accept their testimony ever after, for they are transgressors, - Wahiduddin Khan
⦿
اور جو لوگ پاک دامن عورتوں پر زنا کی تہمت لگاتے ہیں اور چار گواہ فراہم نہیں کرتے ہیں انہیں اسیّ کوڑے لگاؤ اور پھر کبھی ان کی گواہی قبول نہ کرنا کہ یہ لوگ سراسر فاسق ہیں - Jawadi, Zeeshan

اور جو لوگ پاک دامن عورتوں پر تہمت لگائیں، پھر چار گواہ لے کر نہ آئیں، ان کو اسی کوڑے مارو اور ان کی شہادت کبھی قبول نہ کرو، اور وہ خود ہی فاسق ہیں - Maududi, Abul A'ala

اور جو پارسا عورتوں کو عیب لگائیں پھر چار گواہ معائنہ کے نہ لائیں تو انہیں اسی کوڑے لگاؤ اور ان کی گواہی کبھی نہ مانو اور وہی فاسق ہیں، - Ahmed Raza

إِلَّا
Except
ٱلَّذِينَ
the ones who
تَابُوا۟
repent
مِنۢ
from
بَعْدِ
after
ذَٰلِكَ
that
وَأَصْلَحُوا۟
and do corrective measures,
فَإِنَّ
thus certainly
ٱللَّهَ
the One is
غَفُورٌۭ
forgiving,
رَّحِيمٌۭ
having compassion.
Except the ones who repent from after that and do corrective measures, thus certainly the One is forgiving, having compassion.
⦿
Save those who afterward repent and make amends. (For such) lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful. - Pickthall, Marmaduke
⦿
excepting those who repent after that and reform, for Allah is indeed all-forgiving, all-merciful. - Qarai, Ali Quli
⦿
except that of those who afterwards repent and reform themselves; God is All-forgiving and All-merciful. - Sarwar, Muhammad
⦿
Except those who repent after this and act aright, for surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful. - Shakir, Habib
⦿
save those who afterwards repent and make amends, for truly God is forgiving and merciful. - Wahiduddin Khan
⦿
علاوہ ان افراد کے جو اس کے بعد توبہ کرلیں اور اپنے نفس کی اصلاح کرلیں کہ اللہ بہت زیادہ بخشنے والا اور مہربان ہے - Jawadi, Zeeshan
⦿
سوائے اُن لوگوں کے جو اس حرکت کے بعد تائب ہو جائیں اور اصلاح کر لیں کہ اللہ ضرور (اُن کے حق میں) غفور و رحیم ہے - Maududi, Abul A'ala
⦿
مگر جو اس کے بعد توبہ کرلیں اور سنور جائیں تو بیشک اللہ بخشنے والا مہربان ہے، - Ahmed Raza
⦿
سوائے ان کے جو اس کے بعد توبہ کر لیں اور (اپنی) اصلاح کر لیں۔ تو بےشک اللہ بڑا بخشنے والا، بڑا رحم کرنے والا ہے۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

وَٱلَّذِينَ
And the ones
يَرْمُونَ
who accuse
أَزْوَٰجَهُمْ
their legal partners
وَلَمْ
and not
يَكُن
exists
لَّهُمْ
for them
شُهَدَآءُ
any witness
إِلَّآ
except
أَنفُسُهُمْ
their own selves,
فَشَهَٰدَةُ
then let testify
أَحَدِهِمْ
one of them
أَرْبَعُ
four
شَهَٰدَٰتٍۭ
affidavits
بِٱللَّهِ
with the One,
ۙ
إِنَّهُۥ
[that it is a certainty that he
لَمِنَ
is of those who are
ٱلصَّٰدِقِينَ
the truthful.]
٢٤
٦
وَٱلَّذِينَ يَرْمُونَ أَزْوَٰجَهُمْ وَلَمْ يَكُن لَّهُمْ شُهَدَآءُ إِلَّآ أَنفُسُهُمْ فَشَهَٰدَةُ أَحَدِهِمْ أَرْبَعُ شَهَٰدَٰتٍۭ بِٱللَّهِ ۙ إِنَّهُۥ لَمِنَ ٱلصَّٰدِقِينَ And the ones who accuse their legal partners and not exists for them any witness except their own selves, then let testify one of them four affidavits with the One, [that it is a certainty that he is of those who are the truthful.]
⦿
As for those who accuse their wives but have no witnesses except themselves; let the testimony of one of them be four testimonies, (swearing) by Allah that he is of those who speak the truth; - Pickthall, Marmaduke

As for those who accuse their wives [of adultery], but have no witnesses except themselves, the testimony of such a man shall be a fourfold testimony [sworn] by Allah that he is indeed stating the truth, - Qarai, Ali Quli
⦿
Those who accuse their spouses of committing adultery but have no witness except themselves, should testify four times saying, [God is my witness that I am telling the truth]. - Sarwar, Muhammad
⦿
And (as for) those who accuse their wives and have no witnesses except themselves, the evidence of one of these (should be taken) four times, bearing Allah to witness that he is most surely of the truthful ones. - Shakir, Habib
⦿
One who accuses his wife and has no witnesses except himself shall swear four times by God that his charge is true, - Wahiduddin Khan
⦿
اور جو لوگ اپنی بیویوں پر تہمت لگاتے ہیں اور ان کے پاس اپنے علاوہ کوئی گواہ نہیں ہوتا ہے تو ان کی اپنی گواہی چار گواہیوں کے برابر ہوگی اگر وہ چار مرتبہ قسم کھاکر کہیں کہ وہ سچےّ ہیں - Jawadi, Zeeshan

اور جو لوگ اپنی بیویوں پر الزام لگائیں اور ان کے پاس خود ان کے اپنے سوا دوسرے کوئی گواہ نہ ہوں تو اُن میں سے ایک شخص کی شہادت (یہ ہے کہ وہ) چار مرتبہ اللہ کی قسم کھا کر گواہی دے کہ وہ (اپنے الزام میں) سچا ہے - Maududi, Abul A'ala

اور وہ جو اپنی عورتوں کو عیب لگائیں اور ان کے پاس اپنے بیان کے سوا گواہ نہ ہوں تو ایسے کسی کی گواہی یہ ہے کہ چار بار گواہی دے اللہ کے نام سے کہ وہ سچا ہے - Ahmed Raza

اور جو (خاوند) اپنی بیویوں پر تہمت (زنا) لگائیں اور (ثبوت کیلئے) ان کے پاس خود ان کے سوا کوئی گواہ نہ ہو تو ان میں سے کسی کی گواہی اس طرح معتبر ہوگی کہ وہ چار مرتبہ خدا کی قسم کھائے کہ وہ (اپنے دعویٰ میں) سچا ہے۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

وَٱلْخَٰمِسَةُ
And the fifth (affidavit)
أَنَّ
that:
لَعْنَتَ
[punishment of
ٱللَّهِ
the One
عَلَيْهِ
be upon him
إِن
if
كَانَ
he was
مِنَ
of
ٱلْكَٰذِبِينَ
the liars.]
And the fifth (affidavit) that: [punishment of the One be upon him if he was of the liars.]
⦿
And yet a fifth, invoking the curse of Allah on him if he is of those who lie. - Pickthall, Marmaduke
⦿
and a fifth [oath] that Allah]s wrath shall be upon him if he were lying. - Qarai, Ali Quli
⦿
They should say on the fifth time, [Let God's curse be upon me if I am a liar]. - Sarwar, Muhammad
⦿
And the fifth (time) that the curse of Allah be on him if he is one of the liars. - Shakir, Habib
⦿
and the fifth time, that God's curse may be upon him if he is telling a lie. - Wahiduddin Khan
⦿
اور پانچویں مرتبہ یہ کہیں کہ اگر وہ جھوٹے ہیں تو ان پر خدا کی لعنت ہے - Jawadi, Zeeshan

اور پانچویں بار کہے کہ اُس پر اللہ کی لعنت ہو اگر وہ (اپنے الزام میں) جھوٹا ہو - Maududi, Abul A'ala

وَيَدْرَؤُا۟
And defer
عَنْهَا
upon her
ٱلْعَذَابَ
the punishment
أَن
if
تَشْهَدَ
she testifies
أَرْبَعَ
four
شَهَٰدَٰتٍۭ
affidavits
بِٱللَّهِ
with the One,
ۙ
إِنَّهُۥ
[That it is a certainty that he
لَمِنَ
is of those who are
ٱلْكَٰذِبِينَ
the liars].
٢٤
٨
وَيَدْرَؤُا۟ عَنْهَا ٱلْعَذَابَ أَن تَشْهَدَ أَرْبَعَ شَهَٰدَٰتٍۭ بِٱللَّهِ ۙ إِنَّهُۥ لَمِنَ ٱلْكَٰذِبِينَ And defer upon her the punishment if she testifies four affidavits with the One, [That it is a certainty that he is of those who are the liars].
⦿
And it shall avert the punishment from her if she bear witness before Allah four times that the thing he saith is indeed false, - Pickthall, Marmaduke
⦿
The punishment shall be averted from her by her testifying with four oaths [sworn] by Allah that he is indeed lying, - Qarai, Ali Quli
⦿
The spouse will be acquitted of the punishment if she challenges his testimony by saying four times, [God is my witness that he is a liar]. - Sarwar, Muhammad
⦿
And it shall avert the chastisement from her if she testify four times, bearing Allah to witness that he is most surely one of the liars; - Shakir, Habib
⦿
The wife shall receive no punishment, if she bears witness four times in the name of God that her husband has lied - Wahiduddin Khan
⦿
پھر عورت سے بھی حد برطرف ہوسکتی ہے اگر وہ چار مرتبہ قسم کھاکر یہ کہے کہ یہ مرد جھوٹوں میں سے ہے - Jawadi, Zeeshan

اور عورت سے سزا اس طرح ٹل سکتی ہے کہ وہ چار مرتبہ اللہ کی قسم کھا کر شہادت دے کہ یہ شخص (اپنے الزام میں) جھوٹا ہے - Maududi, Abul A'ala

اور عورت سے یوں سزا ٹل جائے گی کہ وہ اللہ کا نام لے کر چار بار گواہی دے کہ مرد جھوٹا ہے - Ahmed Raza

اور اس عورت سے یہ صورت شرعی حد کو ٹال سکتی ہے کہ وہ چار بار اللہ کی قسم کھا کر کہے کہ وہ (خاوند) جھوٹا ہے۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

وَٱلْخَٰمِسَةَ
And the fifth
أَنَّ
that:
غَضَبَ
[Punishment of
ٱللَّهِ
the One
عَلَيْهَآ
be upon her
إِن
if
كَانَ
he was
مِنَ
of
ٱلصَّٰدِقِينَ
the truthful.]
And the fifth that: [Punishment of the One be upon her if he was of the truthful.]
⦿
And a fifth (time) that the wrath of Allah be upon her if he speaketh truth. - Pickthall, Marmaduke
⦿
and a fifth [oath] that Allah]s wrath shall be upon her if he were stating the truth. - Qarai, Ali Quli
⦿
On the fifth time she should say, [Let the curse of God be upon me if what he says is true.] - Sarwar, Muhammad

And the fifth (time) that the wrath of Allah be on her if he is one of the truthful. - Shakir, Habib
⦿
and, a fifth time that God's wrath will be upon her if he is telling the truth. - Wahiduddin Khan

اور پانچویں مرتبہ یہ کہے کہ اگر وہ صادقین میں سے ہے تو مجھ پر خدا کا غضب ہے - Jawadi, Zeeshan
⦿
اور پانچویں مرتبہ کہے کہ اُس بندی پر اللہ کا غضب ٹوٹے اگر وہ (اپنے الزام میں) سچا ہو - Maududi, Abul A'ala
⦿
اور پانچویں یوں کہ عورت پر غضب اللہ کا اگر مرد جھوٹا ہے اور پانچویں یوں کہ عورت پر غضب اللہ کا اگر مرد سچا ہو - Ahmed Raza
⦿
اور پانچویں بار یوں قسم کھائے کہ اس پر اللہ کا غضب ہو اگر وہ (مرد) سچا ہے۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

And had it not been
فَضْلُ
a favour of
ٱللَّهِ
the One
عَلَيْكُمْ
upon you
وَرَحْمَتُهُۥ
and His blessings,
وَأَنَّ
and it is certain that
ٱللَّهَ
the One is
تَوَّابٌ
forgiving,
حَكِيمٌ
wise.
And had it not been a favour of the One upon you and His blessings, and it is certain that the One is forgiving, wise.
⦿
And had it not been for the grace of Allah and His mercy unto you, and that Allah is Clement, Wise, (ye had been undone). - Pickthall, Marmaduke
⦿
Were it not for Allah]s grace and His mercy upon you, and that Allah is all-clement, all-wise.... - Qarai, Ali Quli
⦿
Had it not been for God's favors and mercy upon you (your life would have been in chaos). God accepts repentance and He is All-wise. - Sarwar, Muhammad
⦿
And were it not for Allah's grace upon you and His mercy-- and that Allah is Oft-returning (to mercy), Wise! - Shakir, Habib
⦿
Were it not for God's grace and His mercy upon you, [you would have come to grief] and God is wise, acceptor of repentance. - Wahiduddin Khan
⦿
اور اگر تم پر خدا کا فضل اور اس کی رحمت نہ ہوتی اور وہ توبہ قبول کرنے والا صاحب هحکمت نہ ہوتا تو اس تہمت کا انجام بہت برا ہوتا - Jawadi, Zeeshan
⦿
تم لوگوں پر اللہ کا فضل اور اس کا رحم نہ ہوتا اور یہ بات نہ ہوتی کہ اللہ بڑا التفات فرمانے والا اور حکیم ہے، تو (بیویوں پر الزام کا معاملہ تمہیں بڑی پیچیدگی میں ڈال دیتا) - Maududi, Abul A'ala

اور اگر اللہ کا فضل اور اس کی رحمت تم پر نہ ہوتی اور یہ کہ اللہ توبہ قبول فرماتا حکمت والا ہے، - Ahmed Raza
⦿
اگر اللہ کا فضل و کرم اور اس کا رحم نہ ہوتا اور یہ (بات نہ ہوتی) کہ اللہ بڑا توبہ قبول کرنے والا، بڑا حکمت والا ہے (تو اس الزام تراشی کا انجام بڑا دردناک ہوتا)۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

Surely
ٱلَّذِينَ

with falsehood were
عُصْبَةٌۭ
a league
مِّنكُمْ
of you;
ۚ
لَا
do not
تَحْسَبُوهُ
calculate it
شَرًّۭا
as bad
لَّكُم
for you,
ۖ
بَلْ
rather
هُوَ
it is
خَيْرٌۭ
good
لَّكُمْ
for you,
ۚ
لِكُلِّ
for every
ٱمْرِئٍۢ
person
مِّنْهُم
from them is
مَّا
what
ٱكْتَسَبَ
they earned
مِنَ
from
ٱلْإِثْمِ
the crime;
ۚ
وَٱلَّذِى
and the one who
تَوَلَّىٰ
befriends
كِبْرَهُۥ
eminent ones
مِنْهُمْ
from them,
لَهُۥ
for him
عَذَابٌ
a punishment that is
عَظِيمٌۭ
great.
٢٤
١١
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ جَآءُو بِٱلْإِفْكِ عُصْبَةٌۭ مِّنكُمْ ۚ لَا تَحْسَبُوهُ شَرًّۭا لَّكُم ۖ بَلْ هُوَ خَيْرٌۭ لَّكُمْ ۚ لِكُلِّ ٱمْرِئٍۢ مِّنْهُم مَّا ٱكْتَسَبَ مِنَ ٱلْإِثْمِ ۚ وَٱلَّذِى تَوَلَّىٰ كِبْرَهُۥ مِنْهُمْ لَهُۥ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌۭ Surely the ones who came with falsehood were a league of you; do not calculate it as bad for you, rather it is good for you, for every person from them is what they earned from the crime; and the one who befriends eminent ones from them, for him a punishment that is great.
⦿
Lo! they who spread the slander are a gang among you. Deem it not a bad thing for you; nay, it is good for you. Unto every man of them (will be paid) that which he hath earned of the sin; and as for him among them who had the greater share therein, his will be an awful doom. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Indeed those who initiated the calumny are a group from among yourselves. Do not suppose it is bad thing for you. No, it is for your good. Each man among them bears [the onus for] his share in the sin, and as for him who assumed its major burden from among them, there is a great punishment for him. - Qarai, Ali Quli

and the women of conviction
بِأَنفُسِهِمْ
by themselves
خَيْرًۭا
to be OK,
وَقَالُوا۟
and they (not) said,
هَٰذَآ
[This is
إِفْكٌۭ
a fabrication
مُّبِينٌۭ
clearly!]?

لَّوْلَآ إِذْ سَمِعْتُمُوهُ ظَنَّ ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَٰتُ بِأَنفُسِهِمْ خَيْرًۭا وَقَالُوا۟ هَٰذَآ إِفْكٌۭ مُّبِينٌۭ How come not when heard of it assumed the men of conviction and the women of conviction by themselves to be OK, and they (not) said, [This is a fabrication clearly!]?

Why did not the believers, men and women, when ye heard it, think good of their own own folk, and say: It is a manifest untruth? - Pickthall, Marmaduke

When you [first] heard about it, why did not the faithful, men and women, think well of their folks, and say, [This is an obvious calumny]? - Qarai, Ali Quli

Would that on your hearing this report, the believing men and woman among you had a favorable attitude towards it, and had said, [This report is clearly false]. - Sarwar, Muhammad

بِٱلشُّهَدَآءِ
along the testifiers
فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ
then they
عِندَ
near
ٱللَّهِ
the One
هُمُ
are
ٱلْكَٰذِبُونَ
the liars.

لَّوْلَا جَآءُو عَلَيْهِ بِأَرْبَعَةِ شُهَدَآءَ ۚ فَإِذْ لَمْ يَأْتُوا۟ بِٱلشُّهَدَآءِ فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ هُمُ ٱلْكَٰذِبُونَ How come not they came upon it with four testifiers? thus when not they bring along the testifiers then they near the One are the liars.

Why did they not produce four witnesses? Since they produce not witnesses, they verily are liars in the sight of Allah. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ
and the forth coming,
لَمَسَّكُمْ
for sure would have touched you
فِى
in (matter of)
مَآ
what
أَفَضْتُمْ
you increased
فِيهِ
in it,
عَذَابٌ
a punishment of
عَظِيمٌ
great magnitude.

١٤
وَلَوْلَا فَضْلُ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَتُهُۥ فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ لَمَسَّكُمْ فِى مَآ أَفَضْتُمْ فِيهِ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ And if for not a favour of the One upon you and His blessing in the World and the forth coming, for sure would have touched you in (matter of) what you increased in it, a punishment of great magnitude.

Had it not been for the grace of Allah and His mercy unto you in the world and the Hereafter an awful doom had overtaken you for that whereof ye murmured. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Were it not for Allah]s grace and His mercy upon you in this world and the Hereafter, there would have befallen you a great punishment for what you ventured into, - Qarai, Ali Quli

Were it not for the favors and mercy of God upon you, in this world and in the life to come, a great torment would strike you for your involvement in this false report. - Sarwar, Muhammad

And were it not for Allah's grace upon you and His mercy in this world and the hereafter, a grievous chastisement would certainly have touched you on account of the discourse which you entered into. - Shakir, Habib
