Go forth, light-armed and heavy-armed, and strive with your wealth and your lives in the way of Allah! That is best for you if ye but knew. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

لَوْ كَانَ عَرَضًۭا قَرِيبًۭا وَسَفَرًۭا قَاصِدًۭا لَّٱتَّبَعُوكَ وَلَٰكِنۢ بَعُدَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلشُّقَّةُ ۚ وَسَيَحْلِفُونَ بِٱللَّهِ لَوِ ٱسْتَطَعْنَا لَخَرَجْنَا مَعَكُمْ يُهْلِكُونَ أَنفُسَهُمْ وَٱللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ إِنَّهُمْ لَكَٰذِبُونَ [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated]

Had it been a near adventure and an easy journey they had followed thee, but the distance seemed too far for them. Yet will they swear by Allah (saying): If we had been able we would surely have set out with you. They destroy their souls, and Allah knoweth that they verily are liars. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Were it an accessible gain or a short journey, they would have surely followed you; but the distance seemed too far to them. Yet they will swear by Allah: [If we could, we would have surely gone forth with you.] They [merely] destroy themselves. Allah knows that they are indeed liars. - Qarai, Ali Quli

اے نبیؐ، اگر فائدہ سہل الحصول ہوتا اور سفر ہلکا ہوتا تو وہ ضرور تمہارے پیچھے چلنے پر آمادہ ہو جاتے، مگر ان پر تو یہ راستہ بہت کٹھن ہو گیا اب وہ خدا کی قسم کھا کھا کر کہیں گے کہ اگر ہم چل سکتے تو یقیناً تمہارے ساتھ چلتے وہ اپنے آپ کو ہلاکت میں ڈال رہے ہیں اللہ خوب جانتا ہے کہ وہ جھوٹے ہیں - Maududi, Abul A'ala

اگر کوئی قریب مال یا متوسط سفر ہوتا تو ضرور تمہارے ساتھ جاتے مگر ان پر تو مشقت کا راستہ دور پڑ گیا، اور اب اللہ کی قسم کھائیں گے کہ ہم سے بن پڑتا تو ضرور تمہارے ساتھ چلتے اپنی جانو کو ہلاک کرتے ہیں اور اللہ جانتا ہے کہ وہ بیشک ضرور جھوٹے ہیں، - Ahmed Raza

(اے رسول(ص)) اگر فائدہ قریب اور سفر آسان ہوتا تو یہ (منافق) ضرور تمہارے پیچھے چلتے لیکن انہیں راہ دور کی دکھائی دی (اس لئے قطعِ مسافت دشوار ہوگئی) وہ عنقریب اللہ کے نام کی قَسمیں کھا کھا کر کہیں گے کہ اگر ہم مقدور رکھتے تو ضرور آپ کے ساتھ نکلتے۔ یہ لوگ (جھوٹی قَسمیں کھا کر) اپنے کو ہلاکت میں ڈال رہے ہیں اور اللہ جانتا ہے کہ وہ قطعاً جھوٹے ہیں۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

Allah forgive thee (O Muhammad)! Wherefor didst thou grant them leave ere those who told the truth were manifest to thee and thou didst know the liars? - Pickthall, Marmaduke

May Allah excuse you! Why did you grant them leave [to stay behind] before those who told the truth were evident to you and you had ascertained the liars? - Qarai, Ali Quli

Those who believe in Allah and the Last Day ask no leave of thee lest they should strive with their wealth and their lives. Allah is Aware of those who keep their duty (unto Him). - Pickthall, Marmaduke

And if they had wished to go forth they would assuredly have made ready some equipment, but Allah was averse to their being sent forth and held them back and it was said (unto them): Sit ye with the sedentary! - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Had they desired to go forth, they would have surely made some preparations for it; but Allah was averse to arouse them, so He held them back, and it was said [to them], [Be seated with those who sit back.] - Qarai, Ali Quli

Had they (the hypocrites) wanted to join your army, they would have prepared themselves, but God did not wish to motivate them, so He caused them to linger behind with those whose joining you in battle would be of no use. - Sarwar, Muhammad

لَوْ خَرَجُوا۟ فِيكُم مَّا زَادُوكُمْ إِلَّا خَبَالًۭا وَلَأَوْضَعُوا۟ خِلَٰلَكُمْ يَبْغُونَكُمُ ٱلْفِتْنَةَ وَفِيكُمْ سَمَّٰعُونَ لَهُمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌۢ بِٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated]

Had they gone forth among you they had added to you naught save trouble and had hurried to and fro among you, seeking to cause sedition among you; and among you there are some who would have listened to them. Allah is Aware of evil-doers. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Aforetime they sought to cause sedition and raised difficulties for thee till the Truth came and the decree of Allah was made manifest, though they were loth. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

They certainly sought to cause sedition earlier, and upset the matters for you, until the truth came and Allah]s command prevailed, much as they were averse. - Qarai, Ali Quli

Of them is he who saith: Grant me leave (to stay at home) and tempt me not. Surely it is into temptation that they (thus) have fallen. Lo! hell verily is all around the disbelievers. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Among them there are some who say, [Give me leave, and do not put me to temptation.] Look! They have already fallen into temptation and indeed hell besieges the faithless. - Qarai, Ali Quli
⦿
Some of them ask you, [Make us exempt from taking part in the battle and do not try to tempt us by telling us what we may gain from the battle; many people have died in the battle.] Hell certainly encompasses the unbelievers. - Sarwar, Muhammad

And among them there is he who says: Allow me and do not try me. Surely into trial have they already tumbled down, and most surely hell encompasses the unbelievers. - Shakir, Habib

If good befalleth thee (O Muhammad) it afflicteth them, and if calamity befalleth thee, they say: We took precaution, and they turn away well pleased. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

If some good should befall you, it upsets them; but if an adversity befalls you, they say, [We had already taken our precautions in advance,] and they go away boasting. - Qarai, Ali Quli
