يَٰٓأَيُّهَا
O you of
ٱلَّذِينَ
the ones who
ءَامَنُوٓا۟
are convinced!
أَطِيعُوا۟
Obey
ٱللَّهَ
the One
وَرَسُولَهُۥ
and His messenger
وَلَا
and do not
تَوَلَّوْا۟
turn away
عَنْهُ
from Him
وَأَنتُمْ
while it be that
تَسْمَعُونَ
you are of hearing.
٨
٢٠
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ أَطِيعُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ وَلَا تَوَلَّوْا۟ عَنْهُ وَأَنتُمْ تَسْمَعُونَ O you of the ones who are convinced! Obey the One and His messenger and do not turn away from Him while it be that you are of hearing.

O ye who believe! Obey Allah and His messenger, and turn not away from him when ye hear (him speak). - Pickthall, Marmaduke

O you who have faith! Obey Allah and His Apostle, and do not turn away from him while you hear [him]. - Qarai, Ali Quli

وَلَا
And do not
تَكُونُوا۟
become
كَٱلَّذِينَ
like the ones who
قَالُوا۟
said,
سَمِعْنَا
[We hear.]
وَهُمْ
while they
لَا
not
يَسْمَعُونَ
are of hearing.
And do not become like the ones who said, [We hear.] while they not are of hearing.

Be not as those who say, we hear, and they hear not. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Do not be like those who said that they have heard (the Messenger's commands) but do not pay any attention to them. - Sarwar, Muhammad

اور ان لوگوں جیسے نہ ہوجاؤ جو یہ کہتے ہیں کہ ہم نے سنا حالانکہ وہ کچھ نہیں سن رہے ہیں - Jawadi, Zeeshan

اُن لوگوں کی طرح نہ ہو جاؤ جنہوں نے کہا کہ ہم نے سُنا حالانکہ وہ نہیں سُنتے - Maududi, Abul A'ala

اور ان جیسے نہ ہونا جنہوں نے کہا ہم نے سنا او ر وہ نہیں سنتے - Ahmed Raza

اور ان لوگوں کی طرح نہ ہو جانا جو کہتے تو ہیں کہ ہم نے سن لیا حالانکہ (دراصل) وہ کچھ بھی سنتے (سناتے) نہیں ہیں۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

the creatures

ٱلْبُكْمُ
the dumb,
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
لَا
not
يَعْقِلُونَ
use their intellect.
Indeed worst of the creatures near the One are the deaf the dumb, those who not use their intellect.

Lo! the worst of beasts in Allah's sight are the deaf, the dumb, who have no sense. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

وَلَوْ
And if had
عَلِمَ
known
ٱللَّهُ
the One
فِيهِمْ
in them
خَيْرًۭا
goodness,
لَّأَسْمَعَهُمْ
would've made for them to hear;
ۖ
وَلَوْ
but had it been that
أَسْمَعَهُمْ
would've made them hear
لَتَوَلَّوا۟
they would've turned away
وَّهُم
while them
مُّعْرِضُونَ
being apologetic.

٢٣
وَلَوْ عَلِمَ ٱللَّهُ فِيهِمْ خَيْرًۭا لَّأَسْمَعَهُمْ ۖ وَلَوْ أَسْمَعَهُمْ لَتَوَلَّوا۟ وَّهُم مُّعْرِضُونَ And if had known the One in them goodness, would've made for them to hear; but had it been that would've made them hear they would've turned away while them being apologetic.

Had Allah known of any good in them He would have made them hear, but had He made them hear they would have turned away, averse. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Had Allah known any good in them, He would have surely made them hear, and were He to make them hear, surely they would turn away, being disregardful. - Qarai, Ali Quli

Had they possessed any virtue, God would certainly have made them hear. Even if God were to make them hear, they would still turn away from (the words of God). - Sarwar, Muhammad

And if Allah had known any good in them He would have made them hear, and if He makes them hear they would turn back while they withdraw. - Shakir, Habib

If God had found any good in them, He would certainly have made them hear; but being as they are, even if He makes them hear, they will turn away in aversion. - Wahiduddin Khan

اور اگر خدا ان میں کسی خیر کو دیکھتا تو انہیں ضرور سناتا اور اگر سنا بھی دیتا تو یہ منہ پھرا لیتے اور اعراض سے کام لیتے - Jawadi, Zeeshan

اگر اللہ کو معلوم ہوتا کہ ان میں کچھ بھی بھلائی ہے تو وہ ضرور انہیں سُننے کی توفیق دیتا (لیکن بھلائی کے بغیر) اگر وہ ان کو سُنواتا تو وہ بے رُخی کے ساتھ منہ پھیر جاتے - Maududi, Abul A'ala

اور اگر اللہ ان میں کچھ بھلائی جانتا تو انہیں سنادیتا اور اگر سنا دیتا جب بھی انجام کا ر منہ پھیر کر پلٹ جاتے - Ahmed Raza

اگر اللہ جانتا کہ ان میں کچھ بھی بھلائی ہے تو ضرور انہیں سنوا دیتا اور اگر (اس بھلائی کے بغیر) انہیں سنواتا۔ تو وہ بے رخی کرتے ہوئے پیٹھ پھیر دیتے۔ - Najafi, Muhammad
