وَلَوْ
And, if it was that
تَرَىٰٓ
you saw
إِذْ
when
وُقِفُوا۟
they stand
عَلَى
upon
ٱلنَّارِ
the fire
فَقَالُوا۟
thus saying,
يَٰلَيْتَنَا
[O how we wish
نُرَدُّ
we could go back,
وَلَا
and not
نُكَذِّبَ
we would lie
بِـَٔايَٰتِ
about signs of
رَبِّنَا
our Owner
وَنَكُونَ
and we will be
مِنَ
from
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
the ones of conviction.]
٦
٢٧
وَلَوْ تَرَىٰٓ إِذْ وُقِفُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلنَّارِ فَقَالُوا۟ يَٰلَيْتَنَا نُرَدُّ وَلَا نُكَذِّبَ بِـَٔايَٰتِ رَبِّنَا وَنَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ And, if it was that you saw when they stand upon the fire thus saying, [O how we wish we could go back, and not we would lie about signs of our Owner and we will be from the ones of conviction.]

If thou couldst see when they are set before the Fire and say: Oh, would that we might return! Then would we not deny the revelations of our Lord but we would be of the believers! - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Were you to see when they are brought to a halt by the Fire, whereupon they will say, [If only we were sent back [into the world]! Then we will not deny the signs of our Lord, and we will be among the faithful!] - Qarai, Ali Quli

If only you could see them standing in the fire saying, [Would that we could return to the worldly life. We would never reject any of our Lord's revelations and we would be true believers.] - Sarwar, Muhammad

And could you see when they are made to stand before the fire, then they shall say: Would that we were sent back, and we would not reject the communications of our Lord and we would be of the believers. - Shakir, Habib

If you could only see when they are set before the Fire. They will say, [If only we could be sent back. Then we would not deny the signs of our Lord and we would be of the believers.] - Wahiduddin Khan

اگر آپ دیکھتے کہ یہ کس طرح جہنّم کے سامنے کھڑے کئے گئے اور کہنے لگے کہ کاش ہم پلٹا دئیے جاتے اور پروردگار کی نشانیوں کی تکذیب نہ کرتے اور مومنین میں شامل ہوجاتے - Jawadi, Zeeshan

کاش تم اس وقت ان کی حالت دیکھ سکتے جب وہ دوزخ کے کنارے کھڑے کیے جائیں گے اس وقت وہ کہیں گے کہ کاش کوئی صورت ایسی ہو کہ ہم دنیا میں پھر واپس بھیجے جائیں اور اپنے رب کی نشانیوں کو نہ جھٹلائیں اور ایمان لانے والوں میں شامل ہوں - Maududi, Abul A'ala

اور کبھی تم دیکھو جب وہ آگ پر کھڑے کئے جائیں گے تو کہیں گے کاش کسی طرح ہم واپس بھیجے جائیں اور اپنے رب کی آیتیں نہ جھٹلائیں اور مسلمان ہوجائیں، - Ahmed Raza

On the contrary,
بَدَا
had become evident
لَهُم
to them
مَّا
what
كَانُوا۟
they were
يُخْفُونَ
declining
مِن
from
قَبْلُ
before;
ۖ
وَلَوْ
and even if
رُدُّوا۟
they were sent back,
لَعَادُوا۟
they are habbitual
لِمَا
of what
نُهُوا۟
is forbidden
عَنْهُ
from it,
وَإِنَّهُمْ
and they certainly are
لَكَٰذِبُونَ
of liars.

٢٨
بَلْ بَدَا لَهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يُخْفُونَ مِن قَبْلُ ۖ وَلَوْ رُدُّوا۟ لَعَادُوا۟ لِمَا نُهُوا۟ عَنْهُ وَإِنَّهُمْ لَكَٰذِبُونَ On the contrary, had become evident to them what they were declining from before; and even if they were sent back, they are habbitual of what is forbidden from it, and they certainly are of liars.

Nay, but that hath become clear unto them which before they used to hide. And if they were sent back they would return unto that which they are forbidden. Lo! they are liars. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Indeed, what they used to hide before has now become evident to them. But were they to be sent back they would revert to what they were forbidden, and they are indeed liars. - Qarai, Ali Quli

Whatever they had concealed will be revealed to them. If they were to return to (the worldly life), they would again worship idols, for they are liars. - Sarwar, Muhammad

Nay, what they concealed before shall become manifest to them; and if they were sent back, they would certainly go back to that which they are forbidden, and most surely they are liars. - Shakir, Habib

The truth they used to hide will become all too clear to them. But if they were sent back, they would return to what they had been forbidden. For they are indeed liars. - Wahiduddin Khan

بلکہ ان کے لئے وہ سب واضح ہوگیا جسے پہلے سے چھپارہے تھے اور اگر یہ پلٹا بھی دئیے جائیں تو وہی کریں گے جس سے یہ روکے گئے ہیں اور یہ سب جھوٹے ہیں - Jawadi, Zeeshan

در حقیقت یہ با ت وہ محض اس وجہ سے کہیں گے کہ جس حقیقت پر انہوں نے پردہ ڈال رکھا تھا وہ اس وقت بے نقاب ہو کر ان کے سامنے آ چکی ہوگی، ورنہ اگر انہیں سابق زندگی کی طرف واپس بھیجا جائے تو پھر وہی سب کچھ کریں جس سے انہیں منع کیا گیا ہے، وہ تو ہیں ہی جھوٹے (اس لیے اپنی اس خواہش کے اظہار میں بھی جھوٹ ہی سے کام لیں گے) - Maududi, Abul A'ala

بلکہ ان پر کھل گیا جو پہلے چھپاتے تھے اور اگر واپس بھیجے جائیں تو پھر وہی کریں جس سے منع کیے گئے تھے اور بیشک وہ ضرور جھوٹے ہیں، - Ahmed Raza

And they say,
إِنْ

حَيَاتُنَا
our life of
ٱلدُّنْيَا
the World,
وَمَا
and not
نَحْنُ
we are
بِمَبْعُوثِينَ
going to be resurrected.]
And they say, [There is not but our life of the World, and not we are going to be resurrected.]

And they say: There is naught save our life of the world, and we shall not be raised (again). - Pickthall, Marmaduke

They say, [There is nothing but our life of this world, and we shall not be resurrected.] - Qarai, Ali Quli

They have said that this life is the only life and that there will be no Resurrection. - Sarwar, Muhammad

And they say: There is nothing but our life of this world, and we shall not be raised. - Shakir, Habib

They say, [There is nothing beyond our life in this world: we shall not be raised up again from the dead.] - Wahiduddin Khan

اور یہ کہتے ہیں کہ یہ صرف زندگانی دنیا ہے اور ہم دوبارہ نہیں اُٹھائے جائیں گے - Jawadi, Zeeshan

آج یہ لوگ کہتے ہیں کہ زندگی جو کچھ بھی ہے بس یہی دنیا کی زندگی ہے اور ہم مرنے کے بعد ہرگز دوبارہ نہ اٹھائے جائیں گے - Maududi, Abul A'ala

اور بولے وہ تو یہی ہماری دنیا کی زندگی ہے اور ہمیں اٹھنا نہیں - Ahmed Raza

And, if it was that
تَرَىٰٓ
you saw
إِذْ
when
وُقِفُوا۟
they stand
عَلَىٰ

رَبِّهِمْ
their Rabb;
ۚ
قَالَ
(the One) will say,
أَلَيْسَ
[Is not
هَٰذَا
this
بِٱلْحَقِّ
with fact?],
ۚ
قَالُوا۟
they will reply,
بَلَىٰ
[Certainly
وَرَبِّنَا
by our Rabb!],
ۚ
قَالَ
(the One) will say,
فَذُوقُوا۟
[Thus taste
ٱلْعَذَابَ
the punishment
بِمَا
due to what
كُنتُمْ
you were
تَكْفُرُونَ
denying.]
٦
٣٠
وَلَوْ تَرَىٰٓ إِذْ وُقِفُوا۟ عَلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ ۚ قَالَ أَلَيْسَ هَٰذَا بِٱلْحَقِّ ۚ قَالُوا۟ بَلَىٰ وَرَبِّنَا ۚ قَالَ فَذُوقُوا۟ ٱلْعَذَابَ بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَكْفُرُونَ And, if it was that you saw when they stand upon their Rabb; (the One) will say, [Is not this with fact?], they will reply, [Certainly by our Rabb!], (the One) will say, [Thus taste the punishment due to what you were denying.]

If thou couldst see when they are set before their Lord! He will say: Is not this real? They will say: Yea, verily, by our Lord! He will say: Taste now the retribution for that ye used to disbelieve. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Were you to see when they are brought to a halt before their Lord. He will say, [Is this not a fact?] They will say, [Yes, by our Lord!] He will say, [So taste the punishment because of what you used to deny.] - Qarai, Ali Quli

Would that you could see them standing before their Lord who would ask them, [Is not the Resurrection true?] They would reply, [Yes, Lord, there is a Resurrection.] The Lord would then say, [For your disbelief, suffer the torment.] - Sarwar, Muhammad

And could you see when they are made to stand before their Lord. He will say: Is not this the truth? They will say: Yea! by our Lord. He will say: Taste then the chastisement because you disbelieved. - Shakir, Habib

If you could only see when they are made to stand before their Lord! He will ask them, [Is this [second life] not the truth?] They will say, [Yes, by our Lord!] He will say, [Then, taste the punishment that comes from your having refused to acknowledge the truth!] - Wahiduddin Khan

اور اگر آپ اس وقت دیکھتے جب انہیں پروردگار کے سامنے کھڑا کیا جائے گا اور ان سے خطاب ہوگا کہ کیا یہ سب حق نہیں ہے تو وہ لوگ کہیں گے کہ بیشک ہمارے پروردگار کی قسم یہ سب حق ہے تو ارشاد ہوگا کہ اب اپنے کفر کے عذاب کا مزہ چکھو - Jawadi, Zeeshan

کاش وہ منظر تم دیکھ سکو جب یہ اپنے رب کے سامنے کھڑے کیے جائیں گے اس وقت ان کا رب ان سے پوچھے گا ——کیا یہ حقیقت نہیں ہے؟—— یہ کہیں گے ——ہاں اے ہمارے رب! یہ حقیقت ہی ہے—— وہ فرمائے گا ——اچھا! تو اب اپنے انکار حقیقت کی پاداش میں عذاب کا مزا چکھو—— - Maududi, Abul A'ala

اور کبھی تم دیکھو جب اپنے رب کے حضور کھڑے کیے جائیں گے، فرمائے گا کیا یہ حق نہیں کہیں گے کیوں نہیں، ہمیں اپنے رب کی قسم، فرمائے گا تو اب عذاب چکھو بدلہ اپنے کفر کا، - Ahmed Raza

They indeed are losers who deny their meeting with Allah until, when the Hour cometh on them suddenly, they cry: Alas for us, that we neglected it! They bear upon their backs their burdens. Ah, evil is that which they bear! - Pickthall, Marmaduke

They are certainly losers who deny the encounter with Allah. When the Hour overtakes them suddenly, they will say, [Alas for us, for what we neglected in it!] And they will bear their burdens on their backs. Look! Evil is what they bear! - Qarai, Ali Quli

Those who do not believe in the Day of Judgment have incurred upon themselves a great loss. When the Day of Judgment suddenly comes upon them, they will sink under the burden of their sins in grief for their neglecting that day. Terrible indeed will be their burden! - Sarwar, Muhammad

They are losers indeed who reject the meeting of Allah; until when the hour comes upon them all of a sudden they shall say: O our grief for our neglecting it! and they shall bear their burdens on their backs; now surely evil is that which they bear. - Shakir, Habib

Those indeed are the losers who deny the meeting with God. When the Hour comes on them suddenly, they cry, [Alas for us, that we neglected it!] They shall bear their burdens on their backs. Evil are the burdens they shall bear. - Wahiduddin Khan

بیشک وہ لوگ خسارہ میں ہیں جنہوں نے اللہ کی ملاقات کا انکار کیا یہاں تک کہ جب اچانک قیامت آگئی تو کہنے لگے کہ ہائے افسوس ہم نے قیامت کے بارے میں بہت کوتاہی کی ہے -اس وقت وہ اپنے گناہوں کا بوجھ اپنی پشت پر لادے ہوں گے اور یہ بدترین بوجھ ہوگا - Jawadi, Zeeshan

نقصان میں پڑ گئے وہ لوگ جنہوں نے اللہ سے اپنی ملاقات کی اطلاع کو جھوٹ قرار دیا جب اچانک وہ گھڑی آ جائے گی تو یہی لوگ کہیں گے ——افسوس! ہم سے اس معاملہ میں کیسی تقصیر ہوئی—— اور اِن کا حال یہ ہوگا کہ اپنی پیٹھوں پر اپنے گناہوں کا بوجھ لادے ہوئے ہوں گے دیکھو! کیسا برا بوجھ ہے جو یہ اٹھا رہے ہیں - Maududi, Abul A'ala

بیشک ہار میں رہے وہ جنہوں نے اپنے رب سے ملنے کا انکار کیا، یہاں تک کہ جب ان پر قیامت اچانک آگئی بولے ہائے افسوس ہمارا اس پر کہ اس کے ماننے میں ہم نے تقصیر کی، اور وہ اپنے بوجھ اپنی پیٹھ پر لادے ہوئے ہیں ارے کتنا برُا بوجھ اٹھائے ہوئے ہیں - Ahmed Raza

بے شک ان لوگوں نے گھاٹا اٹھایا ہے جنہوں نے اللہ کی بارگاہ میں حاضری کو جھٹلایا۔ یہاں تک کہ جب اچانک قیامت آجائے گی تو وہ لوگ کہیں گے ہائے افسوس ہم سے اس کے بارے میں کیسی کوتاہی ہوئی؟ اور وہ اپنے (گناہوں کے) بوجھ اپنی پشتوں پر اٹھائے ہوں گے۔ کیا برا بوجھ ہے جو وہ اٹھائے ہوئے ہیں؟ ۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

Naught is the life of the world save a pastime and a sport. Better far is the abode of the Hereafter for those who keep their duty (to Allah). Have ye then no sense? - Pickthall, Marmaduke

قَدْ نَعْلَمُ إِنَّهُۥ لَيَحْزُنُكَ ٱلَّذِى يَقُولُونَ ۖ فَإِنَّهُمْ لَا يُكَذِّبُونَكَ وَلَٰكِنَّ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ بِـَٔايَٰتِ ٱللَّهِ يَجْحَدُونَ [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated]

We know well how their talk grieveth thee, though in truth they deny not thee (Muhammad) but evil-doers flout the revelations of Allah. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

We certainly know that what they say grieves you. Yet it is not you that they deny, but it is Allah]s signs that the wrongdoers impugn. - Qarai, Ali Quli

وَلَقَدْ كُذِّبَتْ رُسُلٌۭ مِّن قَبْلِكَ فَصَبَرُوا۟ عَلَىٰ مَا كُذِّبُوا۟ وَأُوذُوا۟ حَتَّىٰٓ أَتَىٰهُمْ نَصْرُنَا ۚ وَلَا مُبَدِّلَ لِكَلِمَٰتِ ٱللَّهِ ۚ وَلَقَدْ جَآءَكَ مِن نَّبَإِى۟ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated]

Messengers indeed have been denied before thee, and they were patient under the denial and the persecution till Our succour reached them. There is none to alter the decisions of Allah. Already there hath reached thee (somewhat) of the tidings of the messengers (We sent before). - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Apostles were certainly denied before you, yet they patiently bore being denied and tormented until Our help came to them. Nothing can change the words of Allah, and there have certainly come to you some of the accounts of the apostles. - Qarai, Ali Quli

The Messengers who lived before you were also accused of lying, but they exercised patience. They were cruelly persecuted before We gave them victory. No one can change the words of God. You have already received news about the Messengers. - Sarwar, Muhammad

وَإِن كَانَ كَبُرَ عَلَيْكَ إِعْرَاضُهُمْ فَإِنِ ٱسْتَطَعْتَ أَن تَبْتَغِىَ نَفَقًۭا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ أَوْ سُلَّمًۭا فِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ فَتَأْتِيَهُم بِـَٔايَةٍۢ ۚ وَلَوْ شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ لَجَمَعَهُمْ عَلَى ٱلْهُدَىٰ ۚ فَلَا تَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلْجَٰهِلِينَ [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated]

And if their aversion is grievous unto thee, then, if thou canst, seek a way down into the earth or a ladder unto the sky that thou mayst bring unto them a portent (to convince them all)! - If Allah willed, He could have brought them all together to the guidance - So be not thou among the foolish ones. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

And should their aversion be hard on you, find, if you can, a tunnel into the ground, or a ladder into sky, that you may bring them a sign. Had Allah wished, He would have brought them together on guidance. So do not be one of the ignorant. - Qarai, Ali Quli

(Muhammad), if their refusal of the faith is so grievous to you and if you can dig up the earth or ascend into the sky in search of further evidence to inevitably make them believe you, you should have done so, but note that had God wanted, He could have made them all follow the same guidance. And if their turning away is hard on you, then if you can seek an opening (to go down) into the earth or a ladder (to ascend up) to heaven so that you should bring them a sign and if Allah had pleased He would certainly have gathered them all on guidance, therefore be not of the ignorant. - Shakir, Habib

If you find their rejection hard to bear, then seek a tunnel into the ground or a ladder into the sky, if you can, and bring them a sign. Had God so willed, He would indeed have given them all [His] guidance. So do not be among the ignorant. - Wahiduddin Khan

اور اگر ان کا اعراض و انحراف آپ پر گراں گزرتا ہے تو اگر آپ کے بس میں ہے کہ زمین میں سرنگ بنادیں یا آسمان میں سیڑھی لگا کر کوئی نشانی لے آئیں تو لے آئیں ....بیشک اگر خدا چاہتا تو جبرا سب کو ہدایت پر جمع ہی کردیتا لہذا آپ اپنا شمار ناواقف لوگوں میں نہ ہونے دیں - Jawadi, Zeeshan

تاہم اگر ان لوگوں کی بے رخی تم سے برداشت نہیں ہوتی تو اگر تم میں کچھ زور ہے تو زمین میں کوئی سرنگ ڈھونڈو یا آسمان میں سیڑھی لگاؤ اور ان کے پاس کوئی نشانی لانے کی کوشش کرو اگر اللہ چاہتا تو ان سب کو ہدایت پر جمع کر سکتا تھا، لہٰذا نادان مت بنو - Maududi, Abul A'ala

اور اگر ان کا منہ پھیرنا تم پر شاق گزرا ہے تو اگر تم سے ہوسکے تو زمین میں کوئی سرنگ تلاش کرلو یا آسمان میں زینہ پھر ان کے لیے نشانی لے آؤ اور اللہ چاہتا تو انہیں ہدایت پر اکٹھا کردیتا تو اے سننے والے تو ہرگز نادان نہ بن، - Ahmed Raza

اور اگر حق سے ان کی روگردانی کرنا آپ پر بہت گراں ہے تو پھر اگر ہو سکتا ہے تو زمین میں کوئی سرنگ لگا کر یا آسمان میں کوئی سیڑھی لگا کر ان کے پاس کوئی معجزہ لاؤ۔ مگر وہ پھر بھی ایمان نہیں لائیں گے اور اگر اللہ (زبردستی) چاہتا تو ان سب کو ہدایت پر جمع کر دیتا۔ لہٰذا آپ ناواقف لوگوں میں سے نہ بنیں۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

Only those can accept who hear. As for the dead, Allah will raise them up; then unto Him they will be returned. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

دعوتِ حق صرف وہی لوگ قبول کرتے ہیں جو سنتے ہیں اور جو مردے ہیں ان کو بس اللہ ہی (قیامت کے دن) اٹھائے گا پھر وہ اس کی طرف لوٹائے جائیں گے۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

They say: Why hath no portent been sent down upon him from his Lord? Say: Lo! Allah is Able to send down a portent. But most of them know not. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

They say, [Why has not a sign been sent down to him from his Lord?] Say, [Allah is indeed able to send down a sign,] but most of them do not know. - Qarai, Ali Quli

They say, [Why have not some miracles been given to him, (Muhammad), from his Lord.] Tell them, (Muhammad), [God certainly has the Power to show such miracles but many of them are ignorant.] - Sarwar, Muhammad

اور یہ کہتے ہیں کہ ان کے اوپر کوئی نشانی کیوں نہیں نازل ہوتی تو کہہ دیجئے کہ خدا تمہاری پسندیدہ نشانی بھی نازل کرسکتا ہے لیکن اکثریت اس بات کو بھی نہیں جانتی ہے - Jawadi, Zeeshan

یہ لوگ کہتے ہیں کہ اِس نبی پر اس کے رب کی طرف سے کوئی نشانی کیوں نہیں اتری؟ کہو، اللہ نشانی اتارنے کی پوری قدرت رکھتا ہے، مگر ان میں سے اکثر لوگ نادانی میں مبتلا ہیں - Maududi, Abul A'ala

اور بولے ان پر کوئی نشانی کیوں نہ اتری ان کے رب کی طرف سے تم فرماؤ کہ اللہ قادر ہے کہ کوئی نشانی اتارے لیکن ان میں بہت نرے (بالکل) جاہل ہیں - Ahmed Raza

اور وہ کفار کہتے ہیں کہ ان پر ان کے پروردگار کی طرف سے کوئی معجزہ کیوں نازل نہیں ہوتا؟ کہہ دیجیے کہ بے شک اللہ تو کوئی بھی معجزہ نازل کرنے پر قادر ہے لیکن ان میں سے اکثر جانتے نہیں ہیں۔ - Najafi, Muhammad
