وَٱتْلُ
And recite
عَلَيْهِمْ
upon them
نَبَأَ
story of
ٱبْنَىْ
sons of
ءَادَمَ
Adam
بِٱلْحَقِّ
with the fact,
إِذْ
when
قَرَّبَا
they sacrificed
قُرْبَانًۭا
for Our closeness,
فَتُقُبِّلَ
thus was accepted
مِنْ
from
أَحَدِهِمَا
one of them two,
وَلَمْ
and not
يُتَقَبَّلْ
was accepted
مِنَ
from
ٱلْـَٔاخَرِ
the other
قَالَ
(who) said,
لَأَقْتُلَنَّكَ
[For sure I will kill you].
ۖ
قَالَ
(The first) said,
إِنَّمَا
[Indeed it is that
يَتَقَبَّلُ
acceptable to
ٱللَّهُ
the One is
مِنَ
(that which is) from
ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ
the aware ones.
٥
٢٧
وَٱتْلُ عَلَيْهِمْ نَبَأَ ٱبْنَىْ ءَادَمَ بِٱلْحَقِّ إِذْ قَرَّبَا قُرْبَانًۭا فَتُقُبِّلَ مِنْ أَحَدِهِمَا وَلَمْ يُتَقَبَّلْ مِنَ ٱلْـَٔاخَرِ قَالَ لَأَقْتُلَنَّكَ ۖ قَالَ إِنَّمَا يَتَقَبَّلُ ٱللَّهُ مِنَ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ And recite upon them story of sons of Adam with the fact, when they sacrificed for Our closeness, thus was accepted from one of them two, and not was accepted from the other (who) said, [For sure I will kill you]. (The first) said, [Indeed it is that acceptable to the One is (that which is) from the aware ones.

But recite unto them with truth the tale of the two sons of Adam, how they offered each a sacrifice, and it was accepted from the one of them and it was not accepted from the other. (The one) said: I will surely kill thee. (The other) answered: Allah accepteth only from those who ward off (evil). - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Relate to them truly the account of Adam]s two sons. When the two of them offered an offering, it was accepted from one of them and not accepted from the other. [One of them] said, [Surely I will kill you.] [The other one] said, [Allah accepts only from the Godwary. - Qarai, Ali Quli

(Muhammad) tell them the true story of the two sons of Adam (Abel and Cain). Each one of them offered a sacrifice. God accepted the sacrifice of one of them (Abel) but not that of the other (Cain) who then said to his brother, [I shall certainly kill you.] (Abel) replied, [God only accepts the offerings of the pious ones. - Sarwar, Muhammad

And relate to them the story of the two sons of Adam with truth when they both offered an offering, but it was accepted from one of them and was not accepted from the other. He said: I will most certainly slay you. (The other) said: Allah only accepts from those who guard (against evil). - Shakir, Habib

Relate to them, the true story of the two sons of Adam. When they both presented an offering, it was accepted from one of them and not from the other. The latter said, [I shall kill you!] The former said, [God accepts [things] only from the righteous. - Wahiduddin Khan

اور پیغمبر علیھ السّلامآپ ان کو آدم علیھ السّلامکے دونوں فرزندوں کا سچا ّقصّہ پڑھ کر سنائیے کہ جب دونوں نے قربانی دی اور ایک کی قربانی قبول ہوگئی اور دوسرے کی نہ ہوئی تو اس نے کہا کہ میں تجھے قتل کردوں گا تو دوسرے نے جواب دیا کہ میرا کیا قصور ہے خدا صرف صاحبان ه تقوٰی کے اعمال کو قبول کرتا ہے - Jawadi, Zeeshan

اور ذرا انہیں آدمؑ کے دو بیٹوں کا قصہ بھی بے کم و کاست سنا دو جب اُن دونوں نے قربانی کی تو ان میں سے ایک کی قربانی قبول کی گئی اور دوسرے کی نہ کی گئی اُس نے کہا ——میں تجھے مار ڈالوں گا—— اس نے جواب دیا ——اللہ تو متقیوں ہی کی نذریں قبول کرتا ہے - Maududi, Abul A'ala

اور انہیں پڑھ کر سناؤ آدم کے دو بیٹوں کی سچی خبر جب دونوں نے ایک ایک نیاز پیش کی تو ایک کی قبول ہوئی اور دوسرے کی نہ قبول ہوئی بولا قسم ہے میں تجھے قتل کردوں گا کہا اللہ اسی سے قبول کرتا ہے، سے ڈر ہے - Ahmed Raza

(اے رسول(ص)) آپ انہیں آدم کے دونوں بیٹوں کا سچا قصہ پڑھ کر سنائیے۔ جب کہ ان دونوں نے قربانی پیش کی تو ایک کی تو قبول ہوگئی اور دوسرے کی قبول نہ ہوئی۔ اس (دوسرے) نے کہا میں تمہیں ضرور قتل کروں گا۔ پہلے نے کہا اللہ تو صرف متقیوں (پرہیزگاروں) کا عمل قبول کرتا ہے۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

لَئِنۢ
So if
بَسَطتَ
is extended
إِلَىَّ
towards me
يَدَكَ
your hand
لِتَقْتُلَنِى
to murder me,
مَآ
not will
أَنَا۠
I
بِبَاسِطٍۢ
be extending
يَدِىَ
my hand
إِلَيْكَ
towards you
لِأَقْتُلَكَ
to murder you.
ۖ
إِنِّىٓ
I am
أَخَافُ
afraid of
ٱللَّهَ
the One,
رَبَّ
Rabb of
ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ
all the states of being.]
٥
٢٨
لَئِنۢ بَسَطتَ إِلَىَّ يَدَكَ لِتَقْتُلَنِى مَآ أَنَا۠ بِبَاسِطٍۢ يَدِىَ إِلَيْكَ لِأَقْتُلَكَ ۖ إِنِّىٓ أَخَافُ ٱللَّهَ رَبَّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ So if is extended towards me your hand to murder me, not will I be extending my hand towards you to murder you. I am afraid of the One, Rabb of all the states of being.]

Even if thou stretch out thy hand against me to kill me, I shall not stretch out my hand against thee to kill thee, lo! I fear Allah, the Lord of the Worlds. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Even if you extend your hand toward me to kill me, I will not extend my hand toward you to kill you. Indeed, I fear Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. - Qarai, Ali Quli

Even if you try to kill me, I certainly shall not try to kill you. I have fear of God, the Lord of the creation. - Sarwar, Muhammad

If you will stretch forth your hand towards me to slay me, I am not one to stretch forth my hand towards you to slay you surely I fear Allah, the Lord of the worlds: - Shakir, Habib

اگر آپ میری طرف قتل کے لئے ہاتھ بڑھائیں گے بھی تو میں آپ کی طرف ہرگز ہاتھ نہ بڑھاؤں گا کہ میں عالمین کے پالنے والے خدا سے ڈرتا ہوں - Jawadi, Zeeshan

اگر تو مجھے قتل کرنے کے لیے ہاتھ اٹھائے گا تو میں تجھے قتل کرنے کے لیے ہاتھ نہ اٹھاؤں گا، میں اللہ رب العالمین سے ڈرتا ہوں - Maududi, Abul A'ala

بیشک اگر تو اپنا ہاتھ مجھ پر بڑھائے گا کہ مجھے قتل کرے تو میں اپنا ہاتھ تجھ پر نہ بڑھاؤں گا کہ تجھے قتل کروں میں اللہ سے ڈرتا ہوں جو مالک ہے سارے جہاں کا، - Ahmed Raza

[I
أُرِيدُ
desire
أَن
that
تَبُوٓأَ
you take upon yourself
بِإِثْمِى
with my sin
وَإِثْمِكَ
and your sin,
فَتَكُونَ
and (that) you be
مِنْ
of
أَصْحَٰبِ
companions of
ٱلنَّارِ
the fire;
ۚ
وَذَٰلِكَ
and that is
جَزَٰٓؤُا۟
how are rewarded
ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ
the people in darkness.]
٥
٢٩
إِنِّىٓ أُرِيدُ أَن تَبُوٓأَ بِإِثْمِى وَإِثْمِكَ فَتَكُونَ مِنْ أَصْحَٰبِ ٱلنَّارِ ۚ وَذَٰلِكَ جَزَٰٓؤُا۟ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ [I desire that you take upon yourself with my sin and your sin, and (that) you be of companions of the fire; and that is how are rewarded the people in darkness.]
⦿
Lo! I would rather thou shouldst bear the punishment of the sin against me and thine own sin and become one of the owners of the fire. That is the reward of evil-doers. - Pickthall, Marmaduke
⦿
I desire that you earn [the burden of] my sin and your sin, to become one of the inmates of the Fire, and such is the requital of the wrongdoers.] - Qarai, Ali Quli
⦿
I would prefer you to take sole responsibility for both our sins and thus become a dweller of hell; this is what an unjust person deserves.] - Sarwar, Muhammad
⦿
Surely I wish that you should bear the sin committed against me and your own sin, and so you would be of the inmates of the fire, and this is the recompense of the unjust. - Shakir, Habib
⦿
and I want you to bear your sins against me as well as your own sins and become an inhabitant of the Fire. Such is the reward of the wrongdoers.] - Wahiduddin Khan

میں چاہتا ہوں کہ آپ میرے اور اپنے دونوں کے گناہوں کا مرکز بن جائیے اور جہنمیوں میں شامل ہوجائیے کہ ظالمین کی یہی سزا ہے - Jawadi, Zeeshan

میں چاہتا ہوں کہ میرا اور اپنا گناہ تو ہی سمیٹ لے اور دوزخی بن کر رہے ظالموں کے ظلم کا یہی ٹھیک بدلہ ہے—— - Maududi, Abul A'ala

میں تو یہ چاہتا ہوں کہ میرا اور تیرا گناہ دونوں تیرے ہی پلہ پڑے تو تو دوز خی ہوجائے، اور بے انصافوں کی یہی سزا ہے، - Ahmed Raza

فَطَوَّعَتْ
Thus obeyed
لَهُۥ
to him
نَفْسُهُۥ
his psyche to
قَتْلَ
kill
أَخِيهِ
his brother
فَقَتَلَهُۥ
hence so murdering him,
فَأَصْبَحَ
thus became
مِنَ
of
ٱلْخَٰسِرِينَ
the losers.
Thus obeyed to him his psyche to kill his brother hence so murdering him, thus became of the losers.
⦿
But (the other's) mind imposed on him the killing of his brother, so he slew him and became one of the losers. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

So his soul prompted him to kill his brother, and he killed him, and thus became one of the losers. - Qarai, Ali Quli

(Cain's) soul prompted him to kill his own brother. In doing so he became of those who lose. - Sarwar, Muhammad

Then his mind facilitated to him the slaying of his brother so he slew him; then he became one of the losers - Shakir, Habib

پھر اس کے نفس نے اسے بھائی کے قتل پر آمادہ کردیا اور اس نے اسے قتل کردیا اور وہ خسارہ والوں میں شامل ہوگیا - Jawadi, Zeeshan

آخر کار اس کے نفس نے اپنے بھائی کا قتل اس کے لیے آسان کر دیا اور وہ اسے مار کر اُن لوگوں میں شامل ہو گیا جو نقصان اٹھانے والے ہیں - Maududi, Abul A'ala

تو اسکے نفس نے اسے بھائی کے قتل کا چاؤ دلایا تو اسے قتل کردیا تو رہ گیا نقصان میں - Ahmed Raza

تو (بالآخر) اس کے نفس نے اپنے بھائی کے قتل کو اس کے لئے آسان بنا دیا۔ چنانچہ اس نے اسے قتل کر دیا اور وہ نقصان اٹھانے والوں میں سے ہوگیا۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

فَبَعَثَ
Thus induced
ٱللَّهُ
the One
غُرَابًۭا
a crow
يَبْحَثُ
croaking
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
the land
لِيُرِيَهُۥ
to make him (the murderer) see it (crow)
كَيْفَ
how
يُوَٰرِى
it put behind
سَوْءَةَ
ill of
أَخِيهِ
his brother.
ۚ
قَالَ
(The murderer) said,
يَٰوَيْلَتَىٰٓ
[O affliction upon me!
أَعَجَزْتُ
Was I so disabled
أَنْ
that
أَكُونَ
I could not even be
مِثْلَ
like
هَٰذَا
this
ٱلْغُرَابِ
crow,
فَأُوَٰرِىَ
thus putting behind
سَوْءَةَ
ill of
أَخِى
my brother?]
ۖ
فَأَصْبَحَ
Thus became
مِنَ
from
ٱلنَّٰدِمِينَ
the regretful ones.
٥
٣١
فَبَعَثَ ٱللَّهُ غُرَابًۭا يَبْحَثُ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ لِيُرِيَهُۥ كَيْفَ يُوَٰرِى سَوْءَةَ أَخِيهِ ۚ قَالَ يَٰوَيْلَتَىٰٓ أَعَجَزْتُ أَنْ أَكُونَ مِثْلَ هَٰذَا ٱلْغُرَابِ فَأُوَٰرِىَ سَوْءَةَ أَخِى ۖ فَأَصْبَحَ مِنَ ٱلنَّٰدِمِينَ Thus induced the One a crow croaking in the land to make him (the murderer) see it (crow) how it put behind ill of his brother. (The murderer) said, [O affliction upon me! Was I so disabled that I could not even be like this crow, thus putting behind ill of my brother?] Thus became from the regretful ones.

Then Allah sent a raven scratching up the ground, to show him how to hide his brother's naked corpse. He said: Woe unto me! Am I not able to be as this raven and so hide my brother's naked corpse? And he became repentant. - Pickthall, Marmaduke
⦿
Then Allah sent a crow, exploring in the ground, to show him how to bury the corpse of his brother. He said, [Woe to me! Am I unable to be [even] like this crow and bury my brother]s corpse?] Thus he became regretful. - Qarai, Ali Quli
⦿
God sent down a raven which started to dig up the earth to show the killer how to bury the corpse of his brother. On seeing the raven, (Cain) said, [Woe to me! Am I less able than a raven to bury the corpse of my brother?] He became greatly remorseful. - Sarwar, Muhammad
⦿
Then Allah sent a crow digging up the earth so that he might show him how he should cover the dead body of his brother. He said: Woe me! do I lack the strength that I should be like this crow and cover the dead body of my brother? So he became of those who regret. - Shakir, Habib
⦿
Then God sent a raven, which scratched the earth, so that He might show him how to hide the corpse of his brother. [Alas!] he cried, [Am I not able even to be like this raven, so that I may hide the corpse of my brother?] And he repented. - Wahiduddin Khan

پھر خدا نے ایک کوّا بھیجا جو زمین کھود رہا تھا کہ اسے دکھلائے کہ بھائی کی لاش کو کس طرح چھپائے گا تو اس نے کہا کہ افسوس میں اس کوّے کے جیسا بھی نہ ہوسکا کہ اپنے بھائی کی لاش کو زمین میں چھاَپا دیتا اور اس طرح وہ نادمین اور پشیمان لوگوں میں شامل ہوگیا - Jawadi, Zeeshan

پھر اللہ نے ایک کوا بھیجا جو زمین کھودنے لگا تاکہ اُسے بتائے کہ اپنے بھائی کی لاش کیسے چھپائے یہ دیکھ کر وہ بولا افسوس مجھ پر! میں اس کوے جیسا بھی نہ ہوسکا کہ اپنے بھائی کی لاش چھپانے کی تدبیر نکال لیتا اس کے بعد وہ اپنے کیے پر بہت پچھتا یا - Maududi, Abul A'ala

تو اللہ نے ایک کوا بھیجا زمین کریدتا کہ اسے دکھائے کیونکر اپنے بھائی کی لاش چھپائے بولا ہائے خرابی میں اس کوے جیسا بھی نہ ہوسکا کہ میں اپنے بھائی کی لاش چھپاتا تو پچتاتا رہ گیا - Ahmed Raza

پھر اللہ نے ایک کوا بھیجا جو زمین کھودتا تھا تاکہ اسے دکھائے کہ وہ کیونکر اپنے بھائی کی لاش چھپائے اس پر اس نے کہا، ہائے افسوس! کیا میں اس کوے سے بھی زیادہ گیا گزرا ہوں؟ کہ اپنے بھائی کی لاش چھپاؤں اب وہ پشیمان ہونے والوں میں سے ہوگیا۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

From
أَجْلِ

ذَٰلِكَ

كَتَبْنَا
We ordained
عَلَىٰ
upon
بَنِىٓ
bani
إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ
Israel,
أَنَّهُۥ
that he
مَن
who
قَتَلَ
murdered
نَفْسًۢا
a psyche that is
بِغَيْرِ
without
نَفْسٍ
self (that is selfless)
أَوْ
or
فَسَادٍۢ
corruption
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
the land,
فَكَأَنَّمَا
hence is just like
قَتَلَ
murder of
ٱلنَّاسَ
the people
جَمِيعًۭا
all together,
وَمَنْ
and who
أَحْيَاهَا
nourished it (gave life to)
فَكَأَنَّمَآ
then that is just like
أَحْيَا
giving life to
ٱلنَّاسَ
the people
جَمِيعًۭا
collectively;
ۚ
وَلَقَدْ
and for sure
جَآءَتْهُمْ
when came to them
رُسُلُنَا
Our messengers
بِٱلْبَيِّنَٰتِ
with (these) clarifications,
ثُمَّ
still
إِنَّ
it was such that
كَثِيرًۭا
a many
مِّنْهُم
from them,
بَعْدَ
after
ذَٰلِكَ
that
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
the Earth,
لَمُسْرِفُونَ
were disparaging.
٥
٣٢
مِنْ أَجْلِ ذَٰلِكَ كَتَبْنَا عَلَىٰ بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ أَنَّهُۥ مَن قَتَلَ نَفْسًۢا بِغَيْرِ نَفْسٍ أَوْ فَسَادٍۢ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ فَكَأَنَّمَا قَتَلَ ٱلنَّاسَ جَمِيعًۭا وَمَنْ أَحْيَاهَا فَكَأَنَّمَآ أَحْيَا ٱلنَّاسَ جَمِيعًۭا ۚ وَلَقَدْ جَآءَتْهُمْ رُسُلُنَا بِٱلْبَيِّنَٰتِ ثُمَّ إِنَّ كَثِيرًۭا مِّنْهُم بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ لَمُسْرِفُونَ From since time of that, We ordained upon bani Israel, that he who murdered a psyche that is without self (that is selfless) or corruption in the land, hence is just like murder of the people all together, and who nourished it (gave life to) then that is just like giving life to the people collectively; and for sure when came to them Our messengers with (these) clarifications, still it was such that a many from them, after that in the Earth, were disparaging.

For that cause We decreed for the Children of Israel that whosoever killeth a human being for other than manslaughter or corruption in the earth, it shall be as if he had killed all mankind, and whoso saveth the life of one, it shall be as if he had saved the life of all mankind. Our messengers came unto them of old with clear proofs (of Allah's Sovereignty), but afterwards lo! many of them became prodigals in the earth. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

That is why We decreed for the Children of Israel that whoever kills a soul, without [its being guilty of] manslaughter or corruption on the earth, is as though he had killed all mankind, and whoever saves a life is as though he had saved all mankind. Our apostles certainly brought them manifest signs, yet even after that, many of them commit excesses on the earth. - Qarai, Ali Quli

For this reason, We made it a law for the children of Israel that the killing of a person for reasons other than legal retaliation or for stopping corruption in the land is as great a sin as murdering all of mankind. However, to save a life would be as great a virtue as to save all of mankind. Our Messengers had come to them with clear authoritative evidence but many of them (Israelites) thereafter started doing wrong in the land. - Sarwar, Muhammad

For this reason did We prescribe to the children of Israel that whoever slays a soul, unless it be for manslaughter or for mischief in the land, it is as though he slew all men; and whoever keeps it alive, it is as though he kept alive all men; and certainly Our apostles came to them with clear arguments, but even after that many of them certainly act extravagantly in the land. - Shakir, Habib

That was why We laid it down for the Children of Israel that whoever killed a human being, except as a punishment for murder or for spreading corruption in the land, shall be regarded as having killed all mankind, and that whoever saved a human life shall be regarded as having saved all mankind. اسی بنا پر ہم نے بنی اسرائیل پر لکھ دیا کہ جو شخص کسی نفس کو .... کسی نفس کے بدلے یا روئے زمین میں فساد کی سزا کے علاوہ قتل کرڈالے گا اس نے گویا سارے انسانوں کو قتل کردیا اور جس نے ایک نفس کو زندگی دے دی اس نے گویا سارے انسانوں کو زندگی دے دی اور بنی اسرائیل کے پاس ہمارے رسول کھلی ہوئی نشانیاں لے کر آئے مگر اس کے بعد بھی ان میں کے اکثر لوگ زمین میں زیادتیاں کرنے والے ہی رہے - Jawadi, Zeeshan

اسی وجہ سے بنی اسرائیل پر ہم نے یہ فرمان لکھ دیا تھا کہ ——جس نے کسی انسان کو خون کے بدلے یا زمین میں فساد پھیلانے کے سوا کسی اور وجہ سے قتل کیا اس نے گویا تمام انسانوں کو قتل کر دیا اور جس نے کسی کی جان بچائی اُس نے گویا تمام انسانوں کو زندگی بخش دی—— مگر اُن کا حال یہ ہے کہ ہمارے رسول پے در پے ان کے پاس کھلی کھلی ہدایات لے کر آئے پھر بھی ان میں بکثرت لوگ زمین میں زیادتیاں کرنے والے ہیں - Maududi, Abul A'ala

اس سبب سے ہم نے بنی اسرائیل پر لکھ دیا کہ جس نے کوئی جان قتل کی بغیر جان کے بدلے یا زمین میں فساد کیے تو گویا اس نے سب لوگوں کو قتل کیا اور جس نے ایک جان کو جِلا لیا اس نے گویا سب لوگوں کو جلالیا، اور بیشک ان کے پاس ہمارے رسول روشن دلیلوں کے ساتھ آئے پھر بیشک ان میں بہت اس کے بعد زمین میں زیادتی کرنے والے ہیں - Ahmed Raza
