And make mention (O Muhammad) of the brother of A'ad when he warned his folk among the wind-curved sandhills - and verily warners came and went before and after him - saying: Serve none but Allah. Lo! I fear for you the doom of a tremendous Day. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

And mention [Hud] the brother of [Ad, when he warned his people at Ahqaf—and warners have passed away before and after him—saying, [Do not worship anyone but Allah. Indeed I fear for you the punishment of a tremendous day.] - Qarai, Ali Quli

اور قوم عاد کے بھائی ہود کو یاد کیجئے کہ انہوں نے اپنی قوم کو احقاف میں ڈرایا .... اور ان کے قبل و بعد بہت سے پیغمبر علیھ السّلام گزر چکے ہیں .... کہ خبردار اللہ کے علاوہ کسی کی عبادت نہ کرو میں تمہارے بارے میں ایک بڑے سخت دن کے عذاب سے خوفزدہ ہوں - Jawadi, Zeeshan

ذرا اِنہیں عاد کے بھائی (ہودؑ) کا قصہ سناؤ جبکہ اُس نے احقاف میں اپنی قوم کو خبردار کیا تھا اور ایسے خبردار کرنے والے اُس سے پہلے بھی گزر چکے تھے اور اس کے بعد بھی آتے رہے کہ ——اللہ کے سوا کسی کی بندگی نہ کرو، مجھے تمہارے حق میں ایک بڑے ہولناک دن کے عذاب کا اندیشہ ہے—— - Maududi, Abul A'ala

اور یاد کرو عاد کے ہم قوم کو جب اس نے ان کو سرزمینِ احقاف میں ڈرایا اور بیشک اس سے پہلے ڈر سنانے والے گزر چکے اور اس کے بعد آئے کہ اللہ کے سوا کسی کو نہ پُوجو، بیشک مجھے تم پر ایک بڑے دن کے عذاب کا اندیشہ ہے، - Ahmed Raza

(اے رسول(ص)) قومِ عاد کے بھائی (جنابِ ہود(ع)) کاذکر کیجئے جبکہ انہوں نے اپنی قوم کو مقامِ احقاف (ریت کے ٹیلوں والی بستی) میں ڈرایا تھا جبکہ بہت سے ڈرانے والے ان سے پہلے بھی گزر چکے اوران کے بعد بھی (جنابِ ہود(ع) نے کہا کہ) اللہ کے سوا کسی کی عبادت نہ کرو (ورنہ) مجھے تمہارے بارے میں ایک بڑے (ہولناک) دن کے عذاب کا اندیشہ ہے۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

ان لوگوں نے کہا کہ کیا تم اسی لئے آئے ہو کہ ہمیں ہمارے خداؤں سے منحرف کردو تو اس عذاب کو لے آؤ جس سے ہمیں ڈرا رہے ہو اگر اپنی بات میں سچے ہو - Jawadi, Zeeshan

انہوں نے کہا ——کیا تو اِس لیے آیا ہے کہ ہمیں بہکا کر ہمارے معبودوں سے برگشتہ کر دے؟ اچھا تو لے آ اپنا وہ عذاب جس سے تو ہمیں ڈراتا ہے اگر واقعی تو سچا ہے—— - Maududi, Abul A'ala

He said: The knowledge is with Allah only. I convey unto you that wherewith I have been sent, but I see you are a folk that know not. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

He said, [The knowledge [of when that threat will be carried out] is with Allah alone. I communicate to you what I have been sent with. But I see that you are a senseless lot.] - Qarai, Ali Quli

Then, when they beheld it as a dense cloud coming toward their valleys, they said: Here is a cloud bringing us rain. Nay, but it is that which ye did seek to hasten, a wind wherein is painful torment, - Pickthall, Marmaduke

When they saw it as a cloud advancing toward their valleys, they said, [This cloud brings us rain.] [No, it is what you sought to hasten: a hurricane carrying a painful punishment, - Qarai, Ali Quli

When they saw the torment as a cloud proceeding to their valleys, they said, [This cloud will bring us rain.] He said, [No, it is the torment which you wanted to suffer immediately. It is a wind bearing and painful torment. - Sarwar, Muhammad

So when they saw it as a cloud appearing in the sky advancing towards their valleys, they said: This is a cloud which will give us rain. Nay! it is what you sought to hasten on, a blast of wind in which is a painful punishment, - Shakir, Habib

So, when they saw it in the shape of a dense cloud approaching their valleys, they exclaimed, [This is only a heavy cloud which will bring us [welcome] rain!] [But Hud said]: [By no means! It is the very thing which you sought to hasten -- a wind bearing grievous suffering - Wahiduddin Khan

اس کے بعد جب ان لوگوں نے بادل کو دیکھا کہ ان کی وادیوں کی طرف چلا آرہا ہے تو کہنے لگے کہ یہ بادل ہمارے اوپر برسنے والا ہے.... حالانکہ یہ وہی عذاب ہے جس کی تمہیں جلدی تھی یہ وہی ہوا ہے جس کے اندر دردناک عذاب ہے - Jawadi, Zeeshan

پھر جب انہوں نے اُس عذاب کو اپنی وادیوں کی طرف آتے دیکھا تو کہنے لگے ——یہ بادل ہے جو ہم کو سیراب کر دے گا—— ——نہیں، بلکہ یہ وہی چیز ہے جس کے لیے تم جلدی مچا رہے تھے یہ ہوا کا طوفان ہے جس میں دردناک عذاب چلا آ رہا ہے - Maududi, Abul A'ala

پھر جب انہوں نے عذاب کو دیکھا بادل کی طرح آسمان کے کنارے میں پھیلا ہوا ان کی وادیوں کی طرف آتا بولے یہ بادل ہے کہ ہم پر برسے گا بلکہ یہ تو وہ ہے جس کی تم جلدی مچاتے تھے، ایک آندھی ہے جس میں دردناک عذاب، - Ahmed Raza

پس جب انہوں نے (عذاب) کو ایک بادل کی صورت میں اپنی وادیوں کی طرف آتے ہوئے دیکھا تو کہنے لگے کہ یہ بادل تو ہم پر برسنے والا ہے بلکہ یہ وہ (عذاب) ہے جس کی تم جلدی کر رہے تھے (یہ تند و تیز) ہوا ہے جس میں دردناک عذاب ہے۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

تُدَمِّرُ كُلَّ شَىْءٍۭ بِأَمْرِ رَبِّهَا فَأَصْبَحُوا۟ لَا يُرَىٰٓ إِلَّا مَسَٰكِنُهُمْ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْقَوْمَ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated]

Destroying all things by commandment of its Lord. And morning found them so that naught could be seen save their dwellings. Thus do We reward the guilty folk. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

اپنے رب کے حکم سے ہر چیز کو تباہ کر ڈالے گا—— آخرکار اُن کا حال یہ ہوا کہ اُن کے رہنے کی جگہوں کے سوا وہاں کچھ نظر نہ آتا تھا اِس طرح ہم مجرموں کو بدلہ دیا کرتے ہیں - Maududi, Abul A'ala

ٱللَّهِ

وَحَاقَ

بِهِم

مَّا

كَانُوا۟

بِهِۦ

يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ
[untranslated]

٢٦
وَلَقَدْ مَكَّنَّٰهُمْ فِيمَآ إِن مَّكَّنَّٰكُمْ فِيهِ وَجَعَلْنَا لَهُمْ سَمْعًۭا وَأَبْصَٰرًۭا وَأَفْـِٔدَةًۭ فَمَآ أَغْنَىٰ عَنْهُمْ سَمْعُهُمْ وَلَآ أَبْصَٰرُهُمْ وَلَآ أَفْـِٔدَتُهُم مِّن شَىْءٍ إِذْ كَانُوا۟ يَجْحَدُونَ بِـَٔايَٰتِ ٱللَّهِ وَحَاقَ بِهِم مَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated]

And verily We had empowered them with that wherewith We have not empowered you, and had assigned them ears and eyes and hearts; but their ears and eyes and hearts availed them naught since they denied the revelations of Allah; and what they used to mock befell them. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Certainly We had granted them power in respects that We have not granted you, and We had vested them with hearing and sight and hearts. But neither their hearing availed them in any way nor did their sight, nor their hearts when they used to impugn the signs of Allah. So they were besieged by what they used to deride. - Qarai, Ali Quli

We had established them more firmly in the land than you are. We had given them ears, eyes, and hearts but none of their ears, eyes, and hearts proved to be of any benefit to them; they rejected the revelations of God and the torment which they mocked brought upon them utter destruction. - Sarwar, Muhammad

And certainly We had established them in what We have not established you in, and We had given-- them ears and eyes and hearts, but neither their ears, nor their eyes, nor their hearts availed them aught, since they denied the communications of Allah, and that which they mocked encompassed them. - Shakir, Habib

We had empowered them to an extent which We have not empowered you, [O people of later times]; and We had endowed them with hearing, and sight, and hearts: but neither their hearing, nor their sight, nor their hearts were of the least avail to them, since they went on rejecting God's revelations; and they were overwhelmed by the very thing which they had been wont to deride. - Wahiduddin Khan

اور یقینا ہم نے ان کو وہ اختیارات دیئے تھے جو تم کو نہیں دیئے ہیں اور ان کے لئے کان, آنکھ, دل سب قرار دیئے تھے لیکن نہ انہیں کانوں نے کوئی فائدہ پہنچایا اور نہ آنکھوں اور دلوں نے کہ وہ آیات الٰہی کا انکار کرنے والے افراد تھے اور انہیں عذاب نے گھیر لیا جس کا وہ مذاق اڑایا کرتے تھے - Jawadi, Zeeshan

اُن کو ہم نے وہ کچھ دیا تھا جو تم لوگوں کو نہیں دیا ہے اُن کو ہم نے کان، آنکھیں اور دل، سب کچھ دے رکھے تھے، مگر نہ وہ کان اُن کے کسی کام آئے، نہ آنکھیں، نہ دل، کیونکہ وہ اللہ کی آیات کا انکار کرتے تھے، اور اُسی چیز کے پھیر میں وہ آ گئے جس کا وہ مذاق اڑاتے تھے - Maududi, Abul A'ala

اور بیشک ہم نے انہیں وہ مقدور دیے تھے جو تم کو نہ دیے اور ان کے لیے کان اور آنکھ اور دل بنائے تو ان کے کام کان اور آنکھیں اور دل کچھ کام نہ آئے جبکہ وہ اللہ کی آیتوں کا انکار کرتے تھے اور انہیں گھیرلیا اس عذاب نے جس کی ہنسی بناتے تھے، - Ahmed Raza

ہم نے ان لوگوں کو ان کاموں کی قدرت دی تھی جو تمہیں بھی نہیں دی اور ہم نے ان کو کان، آنکھیں اور دل دیئے تھے مگر ان کے کانوں اور آنکھوں اور دلوں نے کچھ بھی فائدہ نہ پہنچایا کیونکہ وہ آیاتِ الہیہ کا انکار کیا کرتے تھے اور ان کو اس چیز نے گھیر لیا جس کا وہ مذاق اڑایا کرتے تھے۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

And for sure
أَهْلَكْنَا
We destroyed
مَا
those which
حَوْلَكُم
are around you
مِّنَ
of
ٱلْقُرَىٰ
the settlements,
وَصَرَّفْنَا
and make distinct
ٱلْـَٔايَٰتِ
the signs
لَعَلَّهُمْ
that perhaps they
يَرْجِعُونَ
return.
٤٦
٢٧
وَلَقَدْ أَهْلَكْنَا مَا حَوْلَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْقُرَىٰ وَصَرَّفْنَا ٱلْـَٔايَٰتِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْجِعُونَ And for sure We destroyed those which are around you of the settlements, and make distinct the signs that perhaps they return.
⦿
And verily We have destroyed townships round about you, and displayed (for them) Our revelation, that haply they might return. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Certainly We have destroyed the towns that were around you, and We have variously paraphrased the signs so that they may come back. - Qarai, Ali Quli
⦿
We destroyed some towns around you and showed you the evidence (of the Truth) so that perhaps you would turn (to God). - Sarwar, Muhammad

And certainly We destroyed the towns which are around you, and We repeat the communications that they might turn. - Shakir, Habib

اور یقینا ہم نے تمہارے گرد بہت سی بستیوں کو تباہ کردیا ہے اور اپنی نشانیوں کو پلٹ پلٹ کر دکھلایا ہے کہ شاید یہ حق کی طرف واپس آجائیں - Jawadi, Zeeshan

تمہارے گرد و پیش کے علاقوں میں بہت سی بستیوں کو ہم ہلاک کر چکے ہیں ہم نے اپنی آیات بھیج کر بار بار طرح طرح سے اُن کو سمجھایا، شاید کہ وہ باز آ جائیں - Maududi, Abul A'ala

اور بیشک ہم نے ہلاک کردیں تمہارے آس پاس کی بستیاں اور طرح طرح کی نشانیاں لائے کہ وہ باز آئیں - Ahmed Raza

اور ہم نے تمہارے اردگرد کی کئی بستیوں کو ہلاک و برباد کر دیا اور ہم نے اپنی (قدرت کی) نشانیاں پھیر پھیر کر(مختلف انداز سے) پیش کیں تاکہ وہ باز آجائیں۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

فَلَوْلَا نَصَرَهُمُ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ قُرْبَانًا ءَالِهَةًۢ ۖ بَلْ ضَلُّوا۟ عَنْهُمْ ۚ وَذَٰلِكَ إِفْكُهُمْ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ يَفْتَرُونَ [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated]

Then why did those whom they had chosen for gods as a way of approach (unto Allah) not help them? Nay, but they did fail them utterly. And (all) that was their lie, and what they used to invent. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

So why did not those [fake deities] help them whom they had taken as gods besides Allah, as a means of nearness [to Him]? Indeed, they forsook them; that was their lie and what they used to fabricate. - Qarai, Ali Quli

Why did the idols, whom they worshipped as a means of pleasing God, not help them? In fact, they proved to be the cause of their going astray and it were lies which they had falsely invented lies. - Sarwar, Muhammad

Why did not then those help them whom they took for gods besides Allah to draw (them) nigh (to Him)? Nay! they were lost to them; and this was their lie and what they forged. - Shakir, Habib

so why did their gods not help them, those they set up as gods besides God to bring them nearer to Him? No indeed! They failed them utterly: it was all a lie, a fabrication of their own making. - Wahiduddin Khan

تو وہ لوگ ان کے کام کیوں نہیں آئے جن کو انہوں نے خدا کو چھوڑ کر وسیلہ تقرب کے طور پر خدا بنالیا تھا بلکہ وہ تو غائب ہی ہوگئے اور یہ ان لوگوں کا وہ جھوٹ اور افترا ہے جو وہ برابر تیار کیا کرتے تھے - Jawadi, Zeeshan

پھر کیوں نہ اُن ہستیوں نے اُن کی مدد کی جنہیں اللہ کو چھوڑ کر انہوں نے تقرب الی اللہ کا ذریعہ سمجھتے ہوئے معبود بنا لیا تھا؟ بلکہ وہ تو ان سے کھوئے گئے، اور یہ تھا اُن کے جھوٹ اور اُن بناوٹی عقیدوں کا انجام جو انہوں نے گھڑ رکھے تھے - Maududi, Abul A'ala

وَإِذْ صَرَفْنَآ إِلَيْكَ نَفَرًۭا مِّنَ ٱلْجِنِّ يَسْتَمِعُونَ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ فَلَمَّا حَضَرُوهُ قَالُوٓا۟ أَنصِتُوا۟ ۖ فَلَمَّا قُضِىَ وَلَّوْا۟ إِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِم مُّنذِرِينَ [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated]

And when We inclined toward thee (Muhammad) certain of the jinn, who wished to hear the Qur'an and, when they were in its presence, said: Give ear! and, when it was finished, turned back to their people, warning. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

When We dispatched toward you a team of jinn listening to the Quran, when they were in its presence, they said, [Be silent!] When it was finished, they went back to their people as warners. - Qarai, Ali Quli

We turned a party of jinn towards you to listen to the Quran. When they attended a Quranic recitation, they said to each other, [Be silent,] and, when it was over, they turned back to their people, in warning, - Sarwar, Muhammad
⦿
And when We turned towards you a party of the jinn who listened to the Quran; so when they came to it, they said: Be silent; then when it was finished, they turned back to their people warning (them). - Shakir, Habib

Remember how We sent to you a band of jinn who wished to hear the Quran and as they listened to its recitation, they said to one another, [Be silent and listen,] and, then when it was finished, they went back to their people, to give them warning. - Wahiduddin Khan

اور جب ہم نے جنات میں سے ایک گروہ کو آپ کی طرف متوجہ کیا کہ قرآن سنیں تو جب وہ حاضر ہوئے تو آپس میں کہنے لگے کہ خاموشی سے سنو پھر جب تلاوت تمام ہوگئی تو فورا پلٹ کر اپنی قوم کی طرف ڈرانے والے بن کر آگئے - Jawadi, Zeeshan

(اور وہ واقعہ بھی قابل ذکر ہے) جب ہم جنوں کے ایک گروہ کو تمہاری طرف لے آئے تھے تاکہ قرآن سنیں جب وہ اُس جگہ پہنچے (جہاں تم قرآن پڑھ رہے تھے) تو انہوں نے آپس میں کہا خاموش ہو جاؤ پھر جب وہ پڑھا جا چکا تو وہ خبردار کرنے والے بن کر اپنی قوم کی طرف پلٹے - Maududi, Abul A'ala

اور جبکہ ہم نے تمہاری طرف کتنے جن پھیرے کان لگا کر قرآن سنتے، پھر جب وہاں حاضر ہوئے آپس میں بولے خاموش رہو پھر جب پڑھنا ہوچکا اپنی قوم کی طرف ڈر سناتے پلٹے - Ahmed Raza

اور (وہ وقت یاد کرو) جب ہم نے جنات کے کچھ افراد کو آپ(ص) کی طرف متوجہ کیا تاکہ وہ غور سے قرآن سنیں۔ پس وہ اس جگہ پہنچے (جہاں قرآن پڑھا جا رہاتھا) تو (آپس میں کہنے لگے) خاموش ہو کر سنو پس جب (قرآن) پڑھا جا چکا تو وہ اپنی قوم کی طرف ڈرانے والے بن کر لوٹے۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

They said,
يَٰقَوْمَنَآ
[O our people!
إِنَّا
Certainly
سَمِعْنَا
we have heard
كِتَٰبًا
a book
أُنزِلَ
sent down
مِنۢ
from
بَعْدِ
after
مُوسَىٰ
Moosa,
مُصَدِّقًۭا
a confirmation
لِّمَا
for what is
بَيْنَ
between
يَدَيْهِ
His hands,
يَهْدِىٓ
which guides
إِلَى
towards
ٱلْحَقِّ
the fact,
وَإِلَىٰ
and towards
طَرِيقٍۢ
a path
مُّسْتَقِيمٍۢ
that is straightforward.]
٤٦
٣٠
قَالُوا۟ يَٰقَوْمَنَآ إِنَّا سَمِعْنَا كِتَٰبًا أُنزِلَ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مُوسَىٰ مُصَدِّقًۭا لِّمَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ يَهْدِىٓ إِلَى ٱلْحَقِّ وَإِلَىٰ طَرِيقٍۢ مُّسْتَقِيمٍۢ They said, [O our people! Certainly we have heard a book sent down from after Moosa, a confirmation for what is between His hands, which guides towards the fact, and towards a path that is straightforward.]

They said: O our people! Lo! we have heard a scripture which hath been revealed after Moses, confirming that which was before it, guiding unto the truth and a right road. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

They said, [O our people! Indeed, we have heard a Book, which has been sent down after Moses, confirming what was before it. It guides to the truth and to a straight path. - Qarai, Ali Quli

and said, [Our people, we have listened to the recitation of a Book revealed after Moses. It confirms the Books revealed before and guides to the Truth and the right path. - Sarwar, Muhammad

They said: O our people! we have listened to a Book revealed after Musa verifying that which is before it, guiding to the truth and to a right path: - Shakir, Habib

They said, [O our people, we have heard a Book, which has been sent down after Moses, fulfilling the predictions existing in previous scriptures; it guides to the truth, and to the right path. - Wahiduddin Khan

کہنے لگے کہ اے قوم والو ہم نے ایک کتاب کو صَنا ہے جو موسٰی علیھ السّلام کے بعد نازل ہوئی ہے یہ اپنے پہلے والی کتابوں کی تصدیق کرنے والی ہے اور حق و انصاف اور سیدھے راستہ کی طرف ہدایت کرنے والی ہے - Jawadi, Zeeshan

انہوں نے جا کر کہا، ——اے ہماری قوم کے لوگو، ہم نے ایک کتاب سنی ہے جو موسیٰؑ کے بعد نازل کی گئی ہے، تصدیق کرنے والی ہے اپنے سے پہلے آئی ہوئی کتابوں کی، رہنمائی کرتی ہے حق اور راہ راست کی طرف - Maududi, Abul A'ala

بولے اے ہماری قوم ہم نے ایک کتاب سنی کہ موسیٰ کے بعد اتاری گئی اگلی کتابوں کی تصدیق فرمائی حق اور سیدھی راہ دکھائی، - Ahmed Raza

انہوں نے کہا اے ہماری قوم! ہم نے ایک کتاب سنی ہے جو موسٰی (ع)ٰ کے بعد نازل کی گئی ہے جو پہلی کتابوں کی تصدیق کرتی ہے (اور جو) حق اور سیدھے راستے کی طرف راہنمائی کرتی ہے۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

أَجِيبُوا۟
Be responsive to

who calls you to
ٱللَّهِ
the One
وَءَامِنُوا۟
and be certain
بِهِۦ
about Him,
يَغْفِرْ
He forgives
لَكُم
for you
مِّن
of
ذُنُوبِكُمْ
your offenses
وَيُجِرْكُم
and your injustices
مِّنْ
from
عَذَابٍ
a punishment
أَلِيمٍۢ
that is painful.]

يَٰقَوْمَنَآ أَجِيبُوا۟ دَاعِىَ ٱللَّهِ وَءَامِنُوا۟ بِهِۦ يَغْفِرْ لَكُم مِّن ذُنُوبِكُمْ وَيُجِرْكُم مِّنْ عَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍۢ [O our nation! Be responsive to who calls you to the One and be certain about Him, He forgives for you of your offenses and your injustices from a punishment that is painful.]
