The Weak [ 4:140 ] النساء

وَقَدْ

And surely

نَزَّلَ

has alighted

عَلَيْكُمْ

upon you

فِى

ٱلْكِتَٰبِ

the Book,

أَنْ

that

إِذَا

whenever

سَمِعْتُمْ

you hear

ءَايَٰتِ

signs of

ٱللَّهِ

the One

يُكْفَرُ

being denied

بِهَا

by them,

وَيُسْتَهْزَأُ

or being mocked

بِهَا

by them,

فَلَا

then do not

تَقْعُدُوا۟

sit

مَعَهُمْ

along with them

حَتَّىٰ

until

يَخُوضُوا۟

they engage

فِى

حَدِيثٍ

a narrative

غَيْرِهِۦٓ

different from it;

إِنَّكُمْ

(otherwise) certainly you

إِذًۭا

then will be

مِّثْلُهُمْ

as like them.

إِنَّ

Surely

ٱللَّهَ

the One is

جَامِعُ

going to include

ٱلْمُنَٰفِقِينَ

the hypocrites

وَٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ

and the deniers

فِى

جَهَنَّمَ

hell

جَمِيعًا

altogether.

١٤٠

وَقَدْ نَزَّلَ عَلَيْكُمْ فِى ٱلْكِتَٰبِ أَنْ إِذَا سَمِعْتُمْ ءَايَٰتِ ٱللَّهِ يُكْفَرُ بِهَا وَيُسْتَهْزَأُ بِهَا فَلَا تَقْعُدُوا۟ مَعَهُمْ حَتَّىٰ يَخُوضُوا۟ فِى حَدِيثٍ غَيْرِهِۦٓ ۚ إِنَّكُمْ إِذًۭا مِّثْلُهُمْ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ جَامِعُ ٱلْمُنَٰفِقِينَ وَٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ فِى جَهَنَّمَ جَمِيعًا

And surely has alighted upon you in the Book, that whenever you hear signs of the One being denied by them, or being mocked by them, then do not sit along with them until they engage in a narrative different from it; (otherwise) certainly you then will be as like them. Surely the One is going to include the hypocrites and the deniers in hell altogether.

⦿

He hath already revealed unto you in the Scripture that, when ye hear the revelations of Allah rejected and derided, (ye) sit not with them (who disbelieve and mock) until they engage in some other conversation. Lo! in that case (if ye stayed) ye would be like unto them. Lo! Allah will gather hypocrites and disbelievers, all together, into hell;

Certainly He has sent down to you in the Book that when you hear Allah]s signs being disbelieved and derided, do not sit with them until they engage in some other discourse, or else you [too] will be like them. Indeed Allah will gather the hypocrites and the faithless in hell all together

God has told you (believers) in the Book that when you hear people disbelieving and mocking God's revelations, do not sit with them unless they change the subject. You will become like them. God will gather all the hypocrites and the disbelievers together in hell fire.

And indeed He has revealed to you in the Book that when you hear Allah's communications disbelieved in and mocked at do not sit with them until they enter into some other discourse; surely then you would be like them; surely Allah will gather together the hypocrites and the unbelievers all in hell.

He has instructed you in the Book that, when you hear people deny or ridicule God's revelations, you must not sit with them unless they engage in other talk, or else you yourselves shall become like them. God will gather all the hypocrites and those who deny the truth together in Hell.

اور اس نے کتاب میں یہ بات نازل کردی ہے کہ جب آیااُ الٰہی کے بارے میں یہ سنو کہ ان کا انکار اور استہزائ ہورہا ہے تو خبردار ان کے ساتھ ہرگز نہ بیٹھنا جب تک وہ دوسری باتوں میں مصروف نہ ہوجائیں ورنہ تم ان ہی کے مثل ہوجاؤ گے خدا کفار اور منافقین سب کو جہّنم میں ایک ساتھ اکٹھا کرنے والا ہے

اللہ اِس کتاب میں تم کو پہلے ہی حکم دے چکا ہے کہ جہاں تم سنو کہ اللہ کی آیات کے خلاف کفر بکا جا رہا ہے اور ا ن کا مذاق اڑایا جا رہا ہے وہاں نہ بیٹھو جب تک کہ لوگ کسی دوسری بات میں نہ لگ جائیں اب اگر تم ایسا کرتے ہو تو تم بھی انہی کی طرح ہو یقین جانو کہ اللہ منافقوں اور کافروں کو جہنم میں ایک جگہ جمع کرنے والا ہے

اور بیشک اللہ تم پر کتاب میں اتار چکا کہ جب تم اللہ کی آیتوں کو سنو کہ ان کا انکار کیا جاتا اور ان کی ہنسی بنائی جاتی ہے تو ان لوگوں کے ساتھ نہ بیٹھو جب تک وہ اور بات میں مشغول نہ ہوں ورنہ تم بھی انہیں جیسے ہو بیشک اللہ منافقوں اور کافروں سب کو جہنم میں اکٹھا کرے گا

اور اس نے کتاب (قرآن) میں تم پر یہ حکم نازل کیا ہے کہ جب سنو کہ (کسی جگہ) آیات الٰہیہ کا انکار کیا جا رہا ہے اور ان کا مذاق اڑایا جا رہا ہے۔ تو ایسے لوگوں کے ساتھ مت بیٹھو۔ جب تک وہ کسی اور بات میں مشغول نہ ہو جائیں (ورنہ) اس حالت میں تم بھی انہی جیسے ہو جاؤگے۔ بے شک خدا سب منافقوں اور سب کافروں کو دوزخ میں اکھٹا کرنے والا ہے۔

لِلْكَٰفِرِينَ

ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

سَبِيلًا

١٤١

ٱلَّذِينَ يَتَرَبَّصُونَ بِكُمْ فَإِن كَانَ لَكُمْ فَتْحٌۭ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ قَالُوٓا۟ أَلَمْ نَكُن مَّعَكُمْ وَإِن كَانَ لِلْكَٰفِرِينَ نَصِيبٌۭ قَالُوٓا۟ أَلَمْ نَسْتَحْوِذْ عَلَيْكُمْ وَنَمْنَعْكُم مِّنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ۚ فَٱللَّهُ يَحْكُمُ بَيْنَكُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ ۗ وَلَن يَجْعَلَ ٱللَّهُ لِلْكَٰفِرِينَ عَلَى ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ سَبِيلًا

⦿

Those who wait upon occasion in regard to you and, if a victory cometh unto you from Allah, say: Are we not with you? and if the disbelievers meet with a success say: Had we not the mastery of you, and did we not protect you from the believers? - Allah will judge between you at the Day of Resurrection, and Allah will not give the disbelievers any way (of success) against the believers.

⦿

—those who lie in wait for you: if there is a victory for you from Allah, they say, [Were we not with you?] But if the faithless get a share [of victory], they say, [Did we not prevail upon you and defend you against the faithful?] Allah will judge between you on the Day of Resurrection, and Allah will never provide the faithless any way [to prevail] over the faithful.

⦿

(The hypocrites) wait and watch. If God grants you victory, they say, [Did we not help you?] If the unbelievers are victorious, they say, [Did we not encourage you not to surrender to the believers and did we not protect you from them?] God will judge among you on the Day of Judgment. He will never help the disbelievers against the believers.

Those who wait for (some misfortune to befall) you then If you have a victory from Allah they say: Were we not with you? And if there is a chance for the unbelievers, they say: Did we not acquire the mastery over you and defend you from the believers? So Allah shall Judge between you on the day of resurrection, and Allah will by no means give the unbelievers a way against the believers.

The hypocrites wait to see what happens to you and, if God grants you a victory, they say, [Were we not on your side?] And if those who deny the truth have a share of it [victory] they say to them, [Did we not help you win, and protect you from the believers?] God will judge between you [all] on Resurrection Day. And never will God allow those who deny the truth to harm the believers.

یہ منافقین تمہارے حالات کا انتظار کرتے رہتے ہیں کہ تمہیں خدا کی طرف سے فتح نصیب ہو تو کہیں گے کیا ہم تمہارے ساتھ نہیں تھے اور اگر کفاّر کو کوئی حصّہ مل جائے گا تو ان سے کہیں گے کہ کیا ہم تم پر غالب نہیں آگئے تھے اور تمہیں مومنین سے بچا نہیں لیا تھا تو اب خدا ہی قیامت کے دن تمہارے درمیان فیصلہ کرے گا اور خدا کفاّر کے لئے صاحبان هایمان کے خلاف کوئی راہ نہیں دے سکتا

⦿

یہ منافق تمہارے معاملہ میں انتظار کر رہے ہیں (کہ اونٹ کس کروٹ بیٹھتا ہے) اگر اللہ کی طرف سے فتح تمہاری ہوئی تو آ کر کہیں گے کہ کیا ہم تمہارے ساتھ نہ تھے؟ ا گر کافروں کا پلہ بھاری رہا تو اُن سے کہیں گے کہ کیا ہم تمہارے خلاف لڑنے پر قادر نہ تھے اور پھر بھی ہم نے تم کو مسلمانوں سے بچایا؟ بس اللہ ہی تمہارے اور ان کے معاملہ کا فیصلہ قیامت کے روز کرے گا اور (اس فیصلہ میں) اللہ نے کافروں کے لیے مسلمانوں پر غالب آنے کی ہرگز کوئی سبیل نہیں رکھی ہے

وہ جو تمہاری حالت تکا کرتے ہیں تو اگر اللہ کی طرف سے تم کو فتح ملے کہیں کیا ہم تمہارے ساتھ نہ تھے اور اگر کافروں کا حصہ ہو تو ان سے کہیں کیا ہمیں تم پر قابو نہ تھا اور ہم نے تمہیں مسلمانوں سے بچایا تو اللہ تم سب میں قیامت کے دن فیصلہ کردے گا اور اللہ کافروں کو مسلمان پر کوئی راہ نہ دے گا

یہ وہ لوگ ہیں جو تمہارے (انجام) کے منتظر رہتے ہیں۔ پھر اگر تمہیں اللہ کی طرف سے فتح و فیروزی حاصل ہوگئی تو کہتے ہیں کیا ہم تمہارے ساتھ نہ تھے؟ اور اگر کافروں کو (فتح کا) کچھ حصہ مل گیا تو (کافروں سے) کہتے ہیں۔ کیا ہم تم پر غالب نہیں آنے لگے تھے؟ اور کیا ہم نے تمہیں مسلمانوں سے نہیں بچایا؟ اب اللہ ہی قیامت کے دن تمہارے درمیان فیصلہ کرے گا۔ اور اللہ کبھی کافروں کے لیے مسلمانوں پر غالب آنے کا کوئی راستہ نہیں رکھے گا۔

إِنَّ ٱلْمُنَٰفِقِينَ يُخَٰدِعُونَ ٱللَّهَ وَهُوَ خَٰدِعُهُمْ وَإِذَا قَامُوٓا۟ إِلَى ٱلصَّلَوٰةِ قَامُوا۟ كُسَالَىٰ يُرَآءُونَ ٱلنَّاسَ وَلَا يَذْكُرُونَ ٱللَّهَ إِلَّا قَلِيلًۭا

⦿

Lo! the hypocrites seek to beguile Allah, but it is He Who beguileth them. When they stand up to worship they perform it languidly and to be seen of men, and are mindful of Allah but little;

The hypocrites indeed seek to deceive Allah, but it is He who outwits them. When they stand up for prayer, they stand up lazily, showing off to the people and not remembering Allah except a little,

⦿

The hypocrites try to deceive God but He, in fact, deceives them. They stand up in prayer lazily just to show that they pray, but, in truth they remember God very little.

⦿

Surely the hypocrites strive to deceive Allah, and He shall requite their deceit to them, and when they stand up to prayer they stand up sluggishly; they do it only to be seen of men and do not remember Allah save a little.

The hypocrites seek to outwit God -- but it is He who outwits them. And when they stand up for prayer, they do so reluctantly and to be seen by others, and they hardly remember God at all.

منافقین خدا کو دھوکہ دینا چاہتے ہیں اور خدا ان کو دھوکہ میں رکھنے والا ہے اور یہ نماز کے لئے اٹھتے بھی ہیں تو سستی کے ساتھ- لوگوں کو دکھانے کے لئے عمل کرتے ہیں اور اللہ کو بہت کم یاد کرتے ہیں

⦿

یہ منافق اللہ کے ساتھ دھوکہ بازی کر رہے ہیں حالانکہ در حقیقت اللہ ہی نے انہیں دھوکہ میں ڈال رکھا ہے جب یہ نماز کے لیے اٹھتے ہں تو کسمساتے ہوئے محض لوگوں کو دکھانے کی خاطر اٹھتے ہیں اور خدا کو کم ہی یاد کرتے ہیں

⦿

بیشک منافق لوگ اپنے گمان میں اللہ کو فریب دیا چاہتے ہیں اور وہی انہیں غافل کرکے مارے گا اور جب نماز کو کھڑے ہوں تو ہارے جی سے لوگوں کو دکھاوا کرتے ہیں اور اللہ کو یاد نہیں کرتے مگر تھوڑا

⦿

منافق (بزعم خود) خدا کو دھوکہ دے رہے ہیں۔ حالانکہ وہ انہیں دھوکے میں رکھ رہا ہے (انہیں ان کی دھوکہ بازی کی سزا دینے والا ہے) اور جب وہ نماز کے لئے کھڑے ہوتے ہیں۔ تو بے دلی اور کاہلی کے ساتھ وہ بھی خلوص نیت سے نہیں بلکہ محض لوگوں کو دکھانے کے لیے۔ اور اللہ کو یاد نہیں کرتے مگر تھوڑ۔

يُضْلِلِ

ٱللَّهُ

فَلَن

تَجِدَ

لَهُۥ

سَبِيلًۭا

١٤٣

مُّذَبْذَبِينَ بَيْنَ ذَٰلِكَ لَآ إِلَىٰ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ وَلَآ إِلَىٰ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ ۚ وَمَن يُضْلِلِ ٱللَّهُ فَلَن تَجِدَ لَهُۥ سَبِيلًۭا

⦿

Swaying between this (and that), (belonging) neither to these nor to those. He whom Allah causeth to go astray, thou (O Muhammad) wilt not find a way for him:

⦿

wavering in between: neither with these, nor with those. And whomever Allah leads astray, you will never find any way for him.

- Qarai, Ali Quli

⦿

They are hesitant people belonging to neither side. You can find no other way for one whom God has caused to go astray.

⦿

Wavering between that (and this), (belonging) neither to these nor to those; and whomsoever Allah causes to err, you shall not find a way for him.

⦿

They vacillate between the two, belonging neither to one side nor the other. But for him whom God allows to go astray you can never find the way for him.

یہ کفر و اسلام کے درمیان حیران و سرگرداں ہیں نہ ان کی طرف ہیں اور نہ اُن کی طرف اور جس کو خدا گمراہی میں چھوڑ دے اس کے لئے آپ کو کوئی راستہ نہ ملے گا

کفر و ایمان کے درمیان ڈانوا ڈول ہیں نہ پورے اِس طرف ہیں نہ پورے اُس طرف جسے اللہ نے بھٹکا دیا ہو اس کے لیے تم کوئی راستہ نہیں پاسکتے

بیچ میں ڈگمگا رہے ہیں نہ اِدھر کے نہ اُدھر کے اور جسے اللہ گمراہ کرے تو اس کے لئے کوئی راہ نہ پائے گا،

وہ (کفر و اسلام کے) درمیان ڈانواں ڈول ہیں نہ پورے اس طرف نہ پورے اس طرف جسے اللہ بھٹکنے دے (اس کی کج رفتاری کی وجہ سے توفیق ہدایت سلب کر لے) تو تو اس کے لئے ہدایت کا کوئی راستہ نہیں پائے گا۔

The Weak [ 4:144 ] النساء

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا

O you of

ٱلَّذِينَ

the ones

ءَامَنُوا۟

of firm conviction!

لَا

Do not

تَتَّخِذُوا۟

take

ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ

the denying people

أَوْلِيَآءَ

guardians

مِن

from

دُونِ

other than

ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

the ones of firm conviction.

أَتُرِيدُونَ

Do you intend

أَن

that

تَجْعَلُوا۟

you make

لِلَّهِ

for the One

عَلَيْكُمْ

upon you all

سُلْطَٰنًۭا

an authority

مُّبِينًا

clearly (or not)?

١٤٤

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تَتَّخِذُوا۟ ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ أَوْلِيَآءَ مِن دُونِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ۚ أَتُرِيدُونَ أَن تَجْعَلُوا۟ لِلَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ سُلْطَٰنًۭا مُّبِينًا

O you of the ones of firm conviction! Do not take the denying people guardians from other than the ones of firm conviction. Do you intend that you make for the One upon you all an authority clearly (or not)?

⦿

O ye who believe! Choose not disbelievers for (your) friends in place of believers. Would ye give Allah a clear warrant against you?

O you who have faith! Do not take the faithless for friends instead of the faithful. Do you wish to give Allah a clear sanction against yourselves?

Believers, do not make unbelievers your intimate friends and supporters rather than believers. Do you want to establish clear evidence against yourselves before God?

O you who believe! do not take the unbelievers for friends rather than the believers; do you desire that you should give to Allah a manifest proof against yourselves?

Do not take deniers of the truth [who are at war with you] for your allies in preference to believers. Would you give God a clear proof against yourselves?

ایمان والو خبردار مومنین کو چھوڑ کر کفاّر کو اپنا ولی اور سرپرست نہ بنانا کیا تم چاہتے ہو کہ اللہ کے لئے اپنے خلاف صریحی دلیل و حجت قرار دے لو

اے لوگو جو ایمان لائے ہو، مومنوں کو چھوڑ کر کافروں کو اپنا رفیق نہ بناؤ کیا تم چاہتے ہو کہ اللہ کو اپنے خلاف صریح حجت دے دو؟

⦿

اے ایمان والو! کافروں کو دوست نہ بناؤ مسلمانوں کے سوا کیا یہ چاہتے ہو کہ اپنے اوپر اللہ کے لئے صریح حجت کرلو

اے ایمان والو! اہل ایمان کو چھوڑ کر کافروں کو اپنا دوست نہ بناؤ۔ کیا تم چاہتے ہو کہ اپنے خلاف اللہ کو کھلی ہوئی دلیل مہیا کر دو۔

إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ تَابُوا۟ وَأَصْلَحُوا۟ وَٱعْتَصَمُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ وَأَخْلَصُوا۟ دِينَهُمْ لِلَّهِ فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ مَعَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ۖ وَسَوْفَ يُؤْتِ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ أَجْرًا عَظِيمًۭا

Save those who repent and amend and hold fast to Allah and make their religion pure for Allah (only). Those are with the believers. And Allah will bestow on the believers an immense reward.

and look for

أَن

يُفَرِّقُوا۟

they may distinguish

بَيْنَ

between

ٱللَّهِ

the One

وَرُسُلِهِۦ

and His messengers,

وَيَقُولُونَ

and they say,

نُؤْمِنُ

[We believe

بِبَعْضٍۢ

about somethings,

وَنَكْفُرُ

and we deny

بِبَعْضٍۢ

about somethings.]

وَيُرِيدُونَ

and they look for

أَن

that

يَتَّخِذُوا۟

they may take

بَيْنَ

between

ذَٰلِكَ

that

سَبِيلًا

a way.

١٥٠

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَكْفُرُونَ بِٱللَّهِ وَرُسُلِهِۦ وَيُرِيدُونَ أَن يُفَرِّقُوا۟ بَيْنَ ٱللَّهِ وَرُسُلِهِۦ وَيَقُولُونَ نُؤْمِنُ بِبَعْضٍۢ وَنَكْفُرُ بِبَعْضٍۢ وَيُرِيدُونَ أَن يَتَّخِذُوا۟ بَيْنَ ذَٰلِكَ سَبِيلًا

Surely the ones who have been denying about the One and His messengers and look for that they may distinguish between the One and His messengers, and they say, [We believe about somethings, and we deny about somethings.] and they look for that they may take between that a way.

Lo! those who disbelieve in Allah and His messengers, and seek to make distinction between Allah and His messengers, and say: We believe in some and disbelieve in others, and seek to choose a way in between;

This website is a work of passion. It exists only for a couple of reasons:

1) I wanted to understand the Book without involving any second-party sources of guidance i.e. exegesis, or Asbab-e-Nuzul, or extra-Quranic ahadith, etc.
2) You must also know what the bare truth is, so we can work together.

Because the process must be transparent, the entire website is available for you to download. You can go through the code, and if you can make any improvements to this process, you are most welcome to. It is a humble request to update me regarding the improvements so I can also update myself.

Due Credits:

This website was possible by help of many people and forums who helped me to learn Arabic, Philosophy, Law, Psychology, and PHP and other Web scripts. To be honest, I do not even know the names of many but I did learn from them. Some of these people were already dead by the time I read their input.

The entire code of this website is available for the same reason, that what they taught me, I can only pay it forward.

The Arabic text of the Quran was obtained from Tanzil. The additional translations were also obtained from Tanzil from this link.

The social-sharing images of verses were obtained from Legacy Quran.com, and were then resized for proper social-media display.
