تُظَٰهِرُونَ

مِنْهُنَّ

أُمَّهَٰتِكُمْ

وَمَا

جَعَلَ

أَدْعِيَآءَكُمْ

أَبْنَآءَكُمْ

ذَٰلِكُمْ

قَوْلُكُم

بِأَفْوَٰهِكُمْ

وَٱللَّهُ

يَقُولُ

ٱلْحَقَّ

وَهُوَ

يَهْدِى

ٱلسَّبِيلَ

٣٣

مَّا جَعَلَ ٱللَّهُ لِرَجُلٍۢ مِّن قَلْبَيْنِ فِى جَوْفِهِۦ ۚ وَمَا جَعَلَ أَزْوَٰجَكُمُ ٱلَّٰٓـِٔى تُظَٰهِرُونَ مِنْهُنَّ أُمَّهَٰتِكُمْ ۚ وَمَا جَعَلَ أَدْعِيَآءَكُمْ أَبْنَآءَكُمْ ۚ ذَٰلِكُمْ قَوْلُكُم بِأَفْوَٰهِكُمْ ۖ وَٱللَّهُ يَقُولُ ٱلْحَقَّ وَهُوَ يَهْدِى ٱلسَّبِيلَ

⦿

Allah hath not assigned unto any man two hearts within his body, nor hath He made your wives whom ye declare (to be your mothers) your mothers, nor hath He made those whom ye claim (to be your sons) your sons. This is but a saying of your mouths. But Allah saith the truth and He showeth the way.

Allah has not put two hearts within any man, nor has He made your wives whom you repudiate by zihar your mothers, nor has he made your adopted sons your [actual] sons. These are mere utterances of your mouths. But Allah speaks the truth and He guides to the [right] way.

⦿

God has not created two hearts inside any one human being. God does not consider your wives whom you renounce by zihar as your mothers nor those whom you adopt as your sons. These are only words of your mouth. God tells the Truth and shows the right path.

Allah has not made for any man two hearts within him; nor has He made your wives whose backs you liken to the backs of your mothers as your mothers, nor has He made those whom you assert to be your sons your real sons; these are the words of your mouths; and Allah speaks the truth and He guides to the way.

God has not placed two hearts in any man's body, nor has He made your wives -- from whom you keep away by saying, [Be as my mother's back] -- your [real] mothers, neither He has made your adopted sons as your own sons. These are merely words which you utter with your mouths: but God speaks the truth and gives guidance to the right path.

اور اللہ نے کسی مرد کے سینے میں دو دل نہیں قرار دیئے ہیں اور تمہاری وہ بیویاں جن سے تم ا ظہار کرتے ہو انہیں تمہاری واقعی ماں نہیں قرار دیا ہے اور نہ تمہاری منہ بولی اولاد کواولادقرار دیا ہے یہ سب تمہاری زبانی باتیں ہیں اور اللہ تو صرف حق کی بات کہتا ہے اور سیدھے راستے کی طرف ہدایت کرتا ہے

اللہ نے کسی شخص کے دھڑ میں دو دِل نہیں رکھے ہیں، نہ اس نے تم لوگوں کی اُن بیویوں کو جن سے تم ظہار کرتے ہو تمہاری ماں بنا دیا ہے، اور نہ اس نے تمہارے منہ بولے بیٹوں کو تمہارا حقیقی بیٹا بنایا ہے یہ تو وہ باتیں ہیں جو تم لوگ اپنے منہ سے نکال دیتے ہو، مگر اللہ وہ بات کہتا ہے جو مبنی بر حقیقت ہے، اور وہی صحیح طریقے کی طرف رہنمائی کرتا ہے

اللہ نے کسی آدمی کے اندر دو دل نہ رکھے اور تمہاری ان عورتوں کو جنہیں تم کے برابر کہہ دو تمہاری ماں نہ بنایا اور نہ تمہارے لے پالکوں کو تمہارا بیٹا بنایا یہ تمہارے اپنے منہ کا کہنا ہے اور اللہ حق فرماتا ہے اور وہی راہ دکھاتا ہے

اور اللہ نے کسی مرد کے سینہ میں دو دل نہیں بنائے اور نہ ہی تمہاری ان بیویوں کو تمہاری مائیں بنایا ہے جن سے تم ظہار کرتے ہو اور نہ ہی اس نے تمہارے منہ بولے بیٹوں کو تمہارا (حقیقی) بیٹا بنایا ہے اور وہی (سیدھے) راستے کی ہدایت کرتا ہے۔

ٱدْعُوهُمْ

ٱلدِّينِ

وَمَوَٰلِيكُمْ

قُلُوبُكُمْ

وَكَانَ

ٱللَّهُ

غَفُورًۭا

رَّحِيمًا

٣٣

ٱدْعُوهُمْ لِـَٔابَآئِهِمْ هُوَ أَقْسَطُ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ ۚ فَإِن لَّمْ تَعْلَمُوٓا۟ ءَابَآءَهُمْ فَإِخْوَٰنُكُمْ فِى ٱلدِّينِ وَمَوَٰلِيكُمْ ۚ وَلَيْسَ عَلَيْكُمْ جُنَاحٌۭ فِيمَآ أَخْطَأْتُم بِهِۦ وَلَٰكِن مَّا تَعَمَّدَتْ قُلُوبُكُمْ ۚ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ غَفُورًۭا رَّحِيمًا

⦿

Proclaim their real parentage. That will be more equitable in the sight of Allah. And if ye know not their fathers, then (they are) your brethren in the faith, and your clients. And there is no sin for you in the mistakes that ye make unintentionally, but what your hearts purpose (that will be a sin for you). Allah is ever Forgiving, Merciful.

Call them after their fathers. That is more just with Allah. If you do not know their fathers, then they are your brethren in the faith and your kinsmen. Excepting what your hearts may intend deliberately, there will be no sin upon you for any mistake that you may make therein. And Allah is all-forgiving, all-merciful.

Call them sons of their own fathers. It is more just in the eyes of God. If you do not know their fathers, they are your brothers and friends in religion. You will not be responsible for your mistakes, but you will be responsible for what you do intentionally. God is All-forgiving and All-merciful.

⦿

Assert their relationship to their fathers; this is more equitable with Allah; but if you do not know their fathers, then they are your brethren in faith and your friends; and there is no blame on you concerning that in which you made a mistake, but (concerning) that which your hearts do purposely (blame may rest on you), and Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

Call them after their own fathers; that is closer to justice in the sight of God. If you do not know their fathers, regard them as your brothers in faith and your proteges. You will not be blamed if you make a mistake, you will be held accountable only for what in your hearts you have done intentionally. God is forgiving and merciful.

ان بچوں کو ان کے باپ کے نام سے پکارو کہ یہی خدا کی نظر میں انصاف سے قریب تر ہے اور اگر ان کے باپ کو نہیں جانتے ہو تو یہ دین میں تمہارے بھائی اور دوست ہیں اور تمہارے لئے اس بات میں کوئی حرج نہیں ہے جو تم سے غلطی ہوگئی ہے البتہ تم اس بات کے ضرور ذمہ دار ہو جو تمہارے دلوں سے قصداانجام دی ہے اور اللہ بہت بخشنے والا اور مہربان ہے

⦿

منہ بولے بیٹوں کو ان کے باپوں کی نسبت سے پکارو، یہ اللہ کے نزدیک زیادہ منصفانہ بات ہے اور اگر تمہیں معلوم نہ ہو کہ ان کے باپ کون ہیں تو وہ تمہارے دینی بھائی اور رفیق ہیں نا دانستہ جو بات تم کہو اس کے لیے تم پر کوئی گرفت نہیں ہے، لیکن اُس بات پر ضرور گرفت ہے جس کا تم دل سے ارادہ کرو اللہ درگزر کرنے والا اور رحیم ہے

انہیں ان کے باپ ہی کا کہہ کر پکارو یہ اللہ کے نزدیک زیادہ ٹھیک ہے پھر اگر تمہیں ان کے باپ معلوم نہ ہوں تو دین میں تمہارے بھائی ہیں اور بشریت میں تمہارے چچا زاد اور تم پر اس میں کچھ گناہ نہیں جو نا دانستہ تم سے صادر ہوا ہاں وہ گناہ ہے جو دل کے قصد سے کرو اور اللہ بخشنے والا مہربان ہے،

ان (منہ بولے بیٹوں) کو ان کے (حقیقی) باپوں کے نام سے پکارا کرو۔ یہ بات اللہ کے نزدیک زیادہ قرینِ انصاف ہے اور اگر تمہیں ان کے (حقیقی) باپوں کا علم نہ ہو تو پھر وہ تمہارے دینی بھائی اور تمہارے دوست ہیں اور تم سے جو بھول چوک ہو جائے اس کا تم پر کوئی گناہ نہیں ہے۔ ہاں البتہ (گناہ اس پر ہے) جو تم دل سے ارادہ کرکے کرو۔ اور اللہ بڑا بخشنے والا (اور) رحم کرنے والا ہے۔

مَّعْرُوفًۭا

ٱلْكِتَٰبِ

مَسْطُورًۭا

[untranslated]

٣٣

ٱلنَّبِىُّ أَوْلَىٰ بِٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ مِنْ أَنفُسِهِمْ ۖ وَأَزْوَٰجُهُۥٓ أُمَّهَٰتُهُمْ ۗ وَأُو۟لُوا۟ ٱلْأَرْحَامِ بَعْضُهُمْ أَوْلَىٰ بِبَعْضٍۢ فِى كِتَٰبِ ٱللَّهِ مِنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَٱلْمُهَٰجِرِينَ إِلَّآ أَن تَفْعَلُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰٓ أَوْلِيَآئِكُم مَّعْرُوفًۭا ۚ كَانَ ذَٰلِكَ فِى ٱلْكِتَٰبِ مَسْطُورًۭا

⦿

The Prophet is closer to the believers than their selves, and his wives are (as) their mothers. And the owners of kinship are closer one to another in the ordinance of Allah than (other) believers and the fugitives (who fled from Mecca), except that ye should do kindness to your friends. This is written in the Book (of nature).

The Prophet is closer to the faithful than their own souls, and his wives are their mothers. The blood relatives are more entitled to inherit from one another in the Book of Allah than the [other] faithful and Emigrants, barring any favour you may do your comrades. This has been written in the Book.

The Prophet has more authority over the believers than themselves. His wives are their mothers. The relatives are closer to each other, according to the Book of God, than the believers and the emigrants. However, you may show kindness to your guardians. This also is written in the Book.

The Prophet has a greater claim on the faithful than they have on themselves, and his wives are (as) their mothers; and the possessors of relationship have the better claim in the ordinance of Allah to inheritance, one with respect to another, than (other) believers, and (than) those who have fled (their homes), except that you do some good to your friends; this is written in the Book.

The Prophet has a higher claim on the believers than [they have on] their own selves, and his wives are their mothers. Blood relatives are closer to one another in God's Book than are believers and the Emigrants except that you want to show your friends a kindness. That is decreed in the Book.

بیشک نبی تمام مومنین سے ان کے نفس کے بہ نسبت زیادہ اولیٰ ہے اور ان کی بیویاں ان سب کی مائیں ہیں اور مومنین و مہاجرین میں سے قرابتدار ایک دوسرے سے زیادہ اولویت اور قربت رکھتے ہیں مگر یہ کہ تم اپنے دوستوں کے ساتھ نیک برتاؤ کرنا چاہو تو کوئی بات نہیں ہے یہ بات کتابِ خدا میں لکھی ہوئی موجود ہے

⦿

بلاشبہ نبی تو اہل ایمان کے لیے اُن کی اپنی ذات پر مقدم ہے، اور نبی کی بیویاں اُن کی مائیں ہیں، مگر کتاب اللہ کی رو سے عام مومنین و مہاجرین کی بہ نسبت رشتہ دار ایک دوسرے کے زیادہ حقدار ہیں، البتہ اپنے رفیقوں کے ساتھ تم کوئی بھلائی (کرنا چاہو تو) کر سکتے ہو یہ حکم کتاب الٰہی میں لکھا ہوا ہے

یہ نبی مسلمانوں کا ان کی جان سے زیادہ مالک ہے اور اس کی بیبیاں ان کی مائیں ہیں اور رشتہ والے اللہ کی کتاب میں ایک دوسرے سے زیادہ قریب ہیں بہ نسبت اور مسلمانوں اور مہاجروں کے مگر یہ کہ تم اپنے دوستوں پر احسان کرو یہ کتاب میں لکھا ہے

نبی مؤمنین پر ان کی جانوں سے بھی زیادہ حق (تصرف) رکھتے ہیں۔ اور آپ کی بیویاں ان (مؤمنین) کی مائیں ہیں اور کتاب اللہ کی رو سے رشتہ دار بہ نسبت عام مؤمنین و مہاجرین کے (وراثت میں) ایک دوسرے کے زیادہ حقدار ہیں مگر یہ کہ تم اپنے دوستوں کے ساتھ حسن سلوک کرنا چاہو۔ یہ حکم کتاب (الٰہی) میں لکھا ہوا ہے۔

وَإِذْ

وَمِنكَ

[untranslated]

وَمِن

نُّوحٍۢ

وَإِبْرَٰهِيمَ

[untranslated]

وَمُوسَىٰ

وَعِيسَى

[untranslated]

ٱبْنِ

[untranslated]

مَرْيَمَ

[untranslated]

وَأَخَذْنَا

[untranslated]

مِنْهُم

[untranslated]

مِّيثَٰقًا

[untranslated]

غَلِيظًۭا

[untranslated]

٣٣

وَإِذْ أَخَذْنَا مِنَ ٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَ مِيثَٰقَهُمْ وَمِنكَ وَمِن نُّوحٍۢ وَإِبْرَٰهِيمَ وَمُوسَىٰ وَعِيسَى ٱبْنِ مَرْيَمَ ۖ وَأَخَذْنَا مِنْهُم مِّيثَٰقًا غَلِيظًۭا

⦿

And when We exacted a covenant from the prophets, and from thee (O Muhammad) and from Noah and Abraham and Moses and Jesus son of Mary. We took from them a solemn covenant;

[Recall] when We took a pledge from the prophets, and from you and from Noah and Abraham and Moses and Jesus son of Mary, and We took from them a solemn pledge,

We had a solemn covenant with you (Muhammad), and the Prophets: Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus, the son of Mary.

⦿

And when We made a covenant with the prophets and with you, and with Nuh and Ibrahim and Musa and Isa, son of Marium, and We made with them a strong covenant

⦿

We took a solemn pledge from the prophets, from you and Noah, Abraham, Moses and Jesus, the son of Mary -- We took a solemn pledge from all of them.

اوراس وقت کو یاد کیجئے جب ہم نے تمام انبیائ علیھ السّلامسے اور بالخصوص آپ سے اور نوح علیھ السّلام, ابراہیم علیھ السّلام ,موسیٰ علیھ السّلام اور عیسٰی بن علیھ السّلام مریم سے عہد لیا اور سب سے بہت سخت قسم کا عہد لیا

اور (اے نبیؐ) یاد رکھو اُس عہد و پیمان کو جو ہم نے سب پیغمبروں سے لیا ہے، تم سے بھی اور نوحؑ اور ابراہیمؑ اور موسیٰؑ اور عیسیٰؑ ابن مریم سے بھی سب سے ہم پختہ عہد لے چکے ہیں

⦿

اور اے محبوب! یاد کرو جب ہم نے نبیوں سے عہد لیا اور تم سے اور نوح اور ابراہیم اور موسی ٰ اور عیسیٰ بن مریم سے اور ہم نے ان سے گاڑھا عہد لیا،

اور وہ وقت یاد کرو۔ جب ہم نے نبیوں سے عہد و پیمان لیا تھا اور آپ سے بھی اور نوح، ابراہیم، موسیٰ اور عیسیٰ بن مریم سے بھی اور ہم نے ان سب سے سخت عہد لیا تھا۔

لِلْكَٰفِرِينَ

عَذَابًا

لِّيَسْـَٔلَ ٱلصَّٰدِقِينَ عَن صِدْقِهِمْ ۚ وَأَعَدَّ لِلْكَٰفِرِينَ عَذَابًا أَلِيمًۭا

⦿

That He may ask the loyal of their loyalty. And He hath prepared a painful doom for the unfaithful.

so that He may question the truthful concerning their truthfulness. And He has prepared for the faithless a painful punishment.

This was a firm agreement. God will ask the truthful ones about their truthfulness and prepare a painful torment for the disbelievers.

That He may question the truthful of their truth, and He has prepared for the unbelievers a painful punishment.

So that God might ask those men of truth as to [what response] their truthfulness [had received on earth]. But for those who deny the truth, He has prepared a woeful punishment.

تاکہ صادقین سے ان کی صداقت تبلیغ کے بارے میں سوال کیا جائے اور خدا نے کافروں کے لئے بڑا دردناک عذاب مہیاّ کر رکھا ہے

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱذْكُرُوا۟ نِعْمَةَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ إِذْ جَآءَتْكُمْ جُنُودٌۭ فَأَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ رِيحًۭا وَجُنُودًۭا لَّمْ تَرَوْهَا ۚ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ بَصِيرًا

O ye who believe! Remember Allah's favour unto you when there came against you hosts, and We sent against them a great wind and hosts ye could not see. And Allah is ever Seer of what ye do.

When they came upon you from above you and from below you, and when eyes grew wild and hearts reached to the throats, and ye were imagining vain thoughts concerning Allah.

And when the hypocrites, and those in whose hearts is a disease, were saying: Allah and His messenger promised us naught but delusion.

وَإِذْ قَالَت طَّآئِفَةٌۭ مِّنْهُمْ يَٰٓأَهْلَ يَثْرِبَ لَا مُقَامَ لَكُمْ فَٱرْجِعُوا۟ ۚ وَيَسْتَـْٔذِنُ فَرِيقٌۭ مِّنْهُمُ ٱلنَّبِىَّ يَقُولُونَ إِنَّ بُيُوتَنَا عَوْرَةٌۭ وَمَا هِىَ بِعَوْرَةٍ ۖ إِن يُرِيدُونَ إِلَّا فِرَارًۭا

And when a party of them said: O folk of Yathrib! There is no stand (possible) for you, therefor turn back. And certain of them (even) sought permission of the Prophet, saying: Our homes lie open (to the enemy). And they lay not open. They but wished to flee.

And when a group of them said, [O people of Yathrib! [This is] not a place for you, so go back!] A group of them sought the Prophet]s permission [to leave the scene of battle], saying, [Our homes lie exposed [to the enemy],] although they were not exposed. They only sought to flee.

It was there that a group of them said, [People of Yathrib, turn back for there is no place for you to stay.] Another group, asking for the Prophet's permission, said, [Our homes are defenseless.] In fact, they were not defenseless. They only wanted to run away.

And when a party of them said: O people of Yasrib! there is no place to stand for you (here), therefore go back; and a party of them asked permission of the prophet, saying. Surely our houses are exposed; and they were not exposed; they only desired to fly away.

Others said, [People of Yathrib, you cannot withstand [the enemy] here: so go back!] Yet others asked leave of the Prophet, saying, [Our houses are exposed and [defenceless].] They were in truth not exposed: they only wished to flee.

اور جب ان کے ایک گروہ نے کہہ دیا کہ مدینہ والو اب یہاں ٹھکانا نہیں ہے لہذا واپس بھاگ چلو اور ان میں سے ایک گروہ نبی سے اجازت مانگ رہا تھا کہ ہمارے گھر خالی پڑے ہوئے ہیں حالانکہ وہ گھر خالی نہیں تھے بلکہ یہ لوگ صرف بھاگنے کا ارادہ کررہے تھے

If the enemy had entered from all sides and they had been exhorted to treachery, they would have committed it, and would have hesitated thereupon but little.

And verily they had already sworn unto Allah that they would not turn their backs (to the foe). An oath to Allah must be answered for.

Say: Flight will not avail you if ye flee from death or killing, and then ye dwell in comfort but a little while.

Say: Who is he who can preserve you from Allah if He intendeth harm for you, or intendeth mercy for you. They will not find that they have any friend or helper other than Allah.

Allah already knoweth those of you who hinder, and those who say unto their brethren: [Come ye hither unto us!] and they come not to the stress of battle save a little,

أَشِحَّةً عَلَيْكُمْ ۖ فَإِذَا جَآءَ ٱلْخَوْفُ رَأَيْتَهُمْ يَنظُرُونَ إِلَيْكَ تَدُورُ أَعْيُنُهُمْ كَٱلَّذِى يُغْشَىٰ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ ٱلْمَوْتِ ۖ فَإِذَا ذَهَبَ ٱلْخَوْفُ سَلَقُوكُم بِأَلْسِنَةٍ حِدَادٍ أَشِحَّةً عَلَى ٱلْخَيْرِ ۚ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ لَمْ يُؤْمِنُوا۟ فَأَحْبَطَ ٱللَّهُ أَعْمَٰلَهُمْ ۚ وَكَانَ ذَٰلِكَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ يَسِيرًۭا

Being sparing of their help to you (believers). But when the fear cometh, then thou (Muhammad) seest them regarding thee with rolling eyes like one who fainteth unto death. Then, when the fear departeth, they scald you with sharp tongues in their greed for wealth (from the spoil). Such have not believed. Therefor Allah maketh their deeds fruitless. And that is easy for Allah.

grudging you [their help]. So when there is panic, you see them looking at you, with their eyes rolling like someone fainting at death. Then, when the panic is over, they scald you with [their] sharp tongues in their greed for the spoils. They never have had faith. So Allah has made their works fail, and that is easy for Allah.

They are niggardly in spending for you. When fear comes, you can see them looking at you, their eyes rolling about like to faint because of the agony of death. When their fear subsides, they start to bite you with their sharp tongues. They are miserly in spending for a virtuous cause and have no faith. God has turned their deeds devoid of all virtue. This was not at all difficult for God.

Being niggardly with respect to you; but when fear comes, you will see them looking to you, their eyes rolling like one swooning because of death; but when the fear is gone they smite you with sharp tongues, being niggardly of the good things. These have not believed, therefore Allah has made their doing naught; and this is easy to Allah.

Begrudging you all help, but when danger comes, you can see them looking at you with rolling eyes as if in their death throes; but once their fear has passed, they come to you and do glib-talking in their greed for wealth. Such men have no faith, so God has foiled their actions. This is indeed easy for God.

یہ تم سے جان چراتے ہیں اور جب خوف سامنے آجائے گا تو آپ دیکھیں گے کہ آپ کی طرف اس طرح دیکھیں گے کہ جیسے ان کی آنکھیں یوں پھر رہی ہیں جیسے موت کی غشی طاری ہو اور جب خوف چلا جائے گا تو آپ پر تیز تر زبانوں کے ساتھ حملہ کریں گے اور انہیں مال غنیمت کی حرص ہوگی یہ لوگ شروع ہی سے ایمان نہیں لائے ہیں لہٰذا خدا نے ان کے اعمال کو برباد کردیا ہے اور خدا کے لئے یہ کام بڑا آسان ہے

جو تمہارا ساتھ دینے میں سخت بخیل ہیں خطرے کا وقت آ جائے تو اس طرح دیدے پھرا پھرا کر تمہاری طرف دیکھتے ہیں جیسے کسی مرنے والے پر غشی طاری ہو رہی ہو، مگر جب خطرہ گزر جاتا ہے تو یہی لوگ فائدوں کے حریص بن کر قینچی کی طرح چلتی ہوئی زبانیں لیے تمہارے استقبال کو آ جاتے ہیں یہ لوگ ہرگز ایمان نہیں لائے، اسی لیے اللہ نے ان کے سارے اعمال ضائع کر دیے اور ایسا کرنا اللہ کے لیے بہت آسان ہے

تمہاری مدد میں گئی کرتے (کمی کرتے) ہیں پھر جب ڈر کا وقت آئے تم انہیں دیکھو گے تمہاری طرف یوں نظر کرتے ہیں کہ ان کی آنکھیں گھوم رہی ہیں جیسے کسی پر موت چھائی ہو پھر جب ڈر کا وقت نکل جائے تمہیں طعنے دینے لگیں تیز زبانوں سے مال غنیمت کے لالچ میں یہ لوگ ایمان لائے ہی نہیں تو اللہ نے ان کے عمل اکارت کردیے اور یہ اللہ کو آسان ہے،

يَحْسَبُونَ ٱلْأَحْزَابَ لَمْ يَذْهَبُوا۟ ۖ وَإِن يَأْتِ ٱلْأَحْزَابُ يَوَدُّوا۟ لَوْ أَنَّهُم بَادُونَ فِى ٱلْأَعْرَابِ يَسْـَٔلُونَ عَنْ أَنۢبَآئِكُمْ ۖ وَلَوْ كَانُوا۟ فِيكُم مَّا قَٰتَلُوٓا۟ إِلَّا قَلِيلًۭا

They hold that the clans have not retired (for good); and if the clans should advance (again), they would fain be in the desert with the wandering Arabs, asking for the news of you; and if they were among you, they would not give battle, save a little.

They suppose the confederates have not left yet, and were the confederates to come [again], they would wish they were in the desert with the Bedouins asking about your news, and if they were with you they would fight but a little.

وَلَمَّا رَءَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ ٱلْأَحْزَابَ قَالُوا۟ هَٰذَا مَا وَعَدَنَا ٱللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُۥ وَصَدَقَ ٱللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُۥ ۚ وَمَا زَادَهُمْ إِلَّآ إِيمَٰنًۭا وَتَسْلِيمًۭا

And when the true believers saw the clans, they said: This is that which Allah and His messenger promised us. Allah and His messenger are true. It did but confirm them in their faith and resignation.

But when the faithful saw the confederates, they said, [This is what Allah and His Apostle had promised us, and Allah and His Apostle were true.] And it only increased them in faith and submission.

اور جب مسلمانوں نے کافروں کے لشکر دیکھے بولے یہ ہے وہ جو ہمیں وعدہ دیا تھا اللہ اور اس کے رسول نے اور سچ فرمایا اللہ اور اس کے رسول نے اور اس سے انہیں نہ بڑھا مگر ایمان اور اللہ کی رضا پر راضی ہونا،

Of the believers are men who are true to that which they covenanted with Allah. Some of them have paid their vow by death (in battle), and some of them still are waiting; and they have not altered in the least;

That Allah may reward the true men for their truth, and punish the hypocrites if He will, or relent toward them (if He will). Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

وَرَدَّ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِغَيْظِهِمْ لَمْ يَنَالُوا۟ خَيْرًۭا ۚ وَكَفَى ٱللَّهُ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ٱلْقِتَالَ ۚ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ قَوِيًّا عَزِيزًۭا

And Allah repulsed the disbelievers in their wrath; they gained no good. Allah averted their attack from the believers. Allah is ever Strong, Mighty.

Allah sent back the faithless in their rage, without their attaining any advantage, and Allah spared the faithful of fighting, and Allah is all-strong, all-mighty.

God repelled the unbelievers in their rage. They could not achieve anything good. God rendered sufficient support to the believers in fighting. God is All-powerful and Majestic.

وَأَنزَلَ ٱلَّذِينَ ظَٰهَرُوهُم مِّنْ أَهْلِ ٱلْكِتَٰبِ مِن صَيَاصِيهِمْ وَقَذَفَ فِى قُلُوبِهِمُ ٱلرُّعْبَ فَرِيقًۭا تَقْتُلُونَ وَتَأْسِرُونَ فَرِيقًۭا

And He brought those of the People of the Scripture who supported them down from their strongholds, and cast panic into their hearts. Some ye slew, and ye made captive some.

And He dragged down from their strongholds those who had backed them from among the People of the Book, and He cast terror into their hearts, [so that] you killed a part of them, and took captive [another] part.

God brought down those among the People of the Book who had supported the confederate tribes from their castles and struck their hearts with terror. You did away with some of them and captured the others.

پھر اہل کتاب میں سے جن لوگوں نے ان حملہ آوروں کا ساتھ دیا تھا، اللہ ان کی گڑھیوں سے انہیں اتار لایا اور اُن کے دلوں میں اُس نے ایسا رُعب ڈال دیا کہ آج ان میں سے ایک گروہ کو تم قتل کر رہے ہو اور دوسرے گروہ کو قید کر رہے ہو

وَأَوْرَثَكُمْ أَرْضَهُمْ وَدِيَٰرَهُمْ وَأَمْوَٰلَهُمْ وَأَرْضًۭا لَّمْ تَطَـُٔوهَا ۚ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍۢ قَدِيرًۭا

And He caused you to inherit their land and their houses and their wealth, and land ye have not trodden. Allah is ever Able to do all things.

O Prophet! Say unto thy wives: If ye desire the world's life and its adornment, come! I will content you and will release you with a fair release.

O Prophet! Say to your wives, [If you desire the life of the world and its glitter, come, I will provide for you and release you in a graceful manner.

وَإِن كُنتُنَّ تُرِدْنَ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ وَٱلدَّارَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ أَعَدَّ لِلْمُحْسِنَٰتِ مِنكُنَّ أَجْرًا عَظِيمًۭا

But if ye desire Allah and His messenger and the abode of the Hereafter, then lo! Allah hath prepared for the good among you an immense reward.

يَٰنِسَآءَ ٱلنَّبِىِّ مَن يَأْتِ مِنكُنَّ بِفَٰحِشَةٍۢ مُّبَيِّنَةٍۢ يُضَٰعَفْ لَهَا ٱلْعَذَابُ ضِعْفَيْنِ ۚ وَكَانَ ذَٰلِكَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ يَسِيرًۭا

O ye wives of the Prophet! Whosoever of you committeth manifest lewdness, the punishment for her will be doubled, and that is easy for Allah.

O wives of the Prophet! Whoever of you commits a gross indecency, her punishment shall be doubled, and that is easy for Allah.

Wives of the Prophet, if anyone among you commits indecency, her torment will be double. This is not at all difficult for God.

And whosoever of you is submissive unto Allah and His messenger and doeth right, We shall give her her reward twice over, and We have prepared for her a rich provision.

But whoever of you is obedient to Allah and His Apostle and acts righteously, We shall give her a twofold reward, and We will have in store for her a noble provision.

To whoever of you obeys God and His Messenger and acts righteously, We will give double reward and a honorable sustenance.

يَٰنِسَآءَ ٱلنَّبِىِّ لَسْتُنَّ كَأَحَدٍۢ مِّنَ ٱلنِّسَآءِ ۚ إِنِ ٱتَّقَيْتُنَّ فَلَا تَخْضَعْنَ بِٱلْقَوْلِ فَيَطْمَعَ ٱلَّذِى فِى قَلْبِهِۦ مَرَضٌۭ وَقُلْنَ قَوْلًۭا مَّعْرُوفًۭا

O ye wives of the Prophet! Ye are not like any other women. If ye keep your duty (to Allah), then be not soft of speech, lest he in whose heart is a disease aspire (to you), but utter customary speech.

O wives of the Prophet! You are not like other women: if you are wary [of Allah], do not be complaisant in your speech, lest he in whose heart is a sickness should aspire; speak honourable words.

نبیؐ کی بیویو، تم عام عورتوں کی طرح نہیں ہو اگر تم اللہ سے ڈرنے والی ہو تو دبی زبان سے بات نہ کیا کرو کہ دل کی خرابی کا مُبتلا کوئی شخص لالچ میں پڑ جائے، بلکہ صاف سیدھی بات کرو

وَقَرْنَ فِى بُيُوتِكُنَّ وَلَا تَبَرَّجْنَ تَبَرُّجَ ٱلْجَٰهِلِيَّةِ ٱلْأُولَىٰ ۖ وَأَقِمْنَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَءَاتِينَ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ وَأَطِعْنَ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥٓ ۚ إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ ٱللَّهُ لِيُذْهِبَ عَنكُمُ ٱلرِّجْسَ أَهْلَ ٱلْبَيْتِ وَيُطَهِّرَكُمْ تَطْهِيرًۭا

⦿

And stay in your houses. Bedizen not yourselves with the bedizenment of the Time of Ignorance. Be regular in prayer, and pay the poor-due, and obey Allah and His messenger. Allah's wish is but to remove uncleanness far from you, O Folk of the Household, and cleanse you with a thorough cleansing.

Stay in your houses and do not flaunt your finery like the former [days of pagan] ignorance. Maintain the prayer and pay the zakat, and obey Allah and His Apostle. Indeed Allah desires to repel all impurity from you, O People of the Household, and purify you with a thorough purification.

Do not display yourselves after the manner of the (pre-Islamic) age of darkness. Be steadfast in the prayer, pay the religious tax, and obey God and His Messenger. People of the house, God wants to remove all kinds of uncleanliness from you and to purify you thoroughly.

And stay in your houses and do not display your finery like the displaying of the ignorance of yore; and keep up prayer, and pay the poor-rate, and obey Allah and His Apostle. Allah only desires to keep away the uncleanness from you, O people of the House! and to purify you a (thorough) purifying.

Stay in your homes and do not flaunt your charms as in the former times of ignorance. Attend to your prayers, pay the zakat and obey God and His Messenger. Women of the [Prophet's] Household, God seeks only to remove all impurity from you, and to make you completely pure.

اور اپنے گھر میں بیٹھی رہو اور پہلی جاہلیت جیسا بناؤ سنگھار نہ کرو اور نماز قائم کرو اور زکوِٰادا کرو اوراللہ اور اس کے رسول کی اطاعت کرو - بس اللہ کا ارادہ یہ ہے اے اہلبیت علیھ السّلام کہ تم سے ہر برائی کو دور رکھے اور اس طرح پاک و پاکیزہ رکھے جو پاک و پاکیزہ رکھنے کا حق ہے

اپنے گھروں میں ٹِک کر رہو اور سابق دور جاہلیت کی سی سج دھج نہ دکھاتی پھرو نماز قائم کرو، زکوٰۃ دو اور اللہ اور اُس کے رسولؐ کی اطاعت کرو اللہ تو یہ چاہتا ہے کہ اہلِ بیتِ نبیؐ سے گندگی کو دور کرے اور تمہیں پوری طرح پاک کر دے

اور اپنے گھروں میں ٹھہری رہو اور بے پردہ نہ رہو جیسے اگلی جاہلیت کی بے پردگی اور نماز قائم رکھو اور زکوٰة دو اور اللہ اور اس کے رسول کا حکم مانو ا لله تو یہی چاہتا ہے، اے نبی کے گھر والو! کہ تم سے ہر ناپاکی دور فرما دے اور تمہیں پاک کرکے خوب ستھرا کردے

اور اپنے گھروں میں قرار سے رہو اور سابقہ زمانۂ جاہلیت کی طرح اپنی آرائش کی نمائش نہ کرتی پھرو (باہر نہ نکلا کرو) اور نماز قائم کرو اور زکوٰۃ ادا کرو اور اللہ اور اس کے رسول کی اطاعت کیا کرو۔ اے اہل بیت! اللہ تو بس یہی چاہتا ہے کہ تم سے ہر قسم کے رجس (آلودگی) کو دور رکھے اور تمہیں اس طرح پاک و پاکیزہ رکھے جس طرح پاک رکھنے کا حق ہے۔

And bear in mind that which is recited in your houses of the revelations of Allah and wisdom. Lo! Allah is Subtile, Aware.

إِنَّ ٱلْمُسْلِمِينَ وَٱلْمُسْلِمَٰتِ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَٰتِ وَٱلْقَٰنِتِينَ وَٱلْقَٰنِتَٰتِ وَٱلصَّٰدِقِينَ وَٱلصَّٰدِقَٰتِ وَٱلصَّٰبِرِينَ وَٱلصَّٰبِرَٰتِ وَٱلْخَٰشِعِينَ وَٱلْخَٰشِعَٰتِ وَٱلْمُتَصَدِّقِينَ وَٱلْمُتَصَدِّقَٰتِ وَٱلصَّٰٓئِمِينَ وَٱلصَّٰٓئِمَٰتِ وَٱلْحَٰفِظِينَ فُرُوجَهُمْ وَٱلْحَٰفِظَٰتِ وَٱلذَّٰكِرِينَ ٱللَّهَ كَثِيرًۭا وَٱلذَّٰكِرَٰتِ أَعَدَّ ٱللَّهُ لَهُم مَّغْفِرَةًۭ وَأَجْرًا عَظِيمًۭا

Lo! men who surrender unto Allah, and women who surrender, and men who believe and women who believe, and men who obey and women who obey, and men who speak the truth and women who speak the truth, and men who persevere (in righteousness) and women who persevere, and men who are humble and women who are humble, and men who give alms and women who give alms, and men who fast and women who fast, and men who guard their modesty and women who guard (their modesty), and men who remember Allah much and women who remember - Allah hath prepared for them forgiveness and a vast reward.

1) I wanted to understand the Book without involving any second-party sources of guidance i.e. exegesis, or Asbab-e-Nuzul, or extra-Quranic ahadith, etc.
