وَإِذْ

بُيُوتَنَا

وَإِذْ قَالَت طَّآئِفَةٌۭ مِّنْهُمْ يَٰٓأَهْلَ يَثْرِبَ لَا مُقَامَ لَكُمْ فَٱرْجِعُوا۟ ۚ وَيَسْتَـْٔذِنُ فَرِيقٌۭ مِّنْهُمُ ٱلنَّبِىَّ يَقُولُونَ إِنَّ بُيُوتَنَا عَوْرَةٌۭ وَمَا هِىَ بِعَوْرَةٍ ۖ إِن يُرِيدُونَ إِلَّا فِرَارًۭا

And when a party of them said: O folk of Yathrib! There is no stand (possible) for you, therefor turn back. And certain of them (even) sought permission of the Prophet, saying: Our homes lie open (to the enemy). And they lay not open. They but wished to flee.

And when a group of them said, [O people of Yathrib! [This is] not a place for you, so go back!] A group of them sought the Prophet]s permission [to leave the scene of battle], saying, [Our homes lie exposed [to the enemy],] although they were not exposed. They only sought to flee.

It was there that a group of them said, [People of Yathrib, turn back for there is no place for you to stay.] Another group, asking for the Prophet's permission, said, [Our homes are defenseless.] In fact, they were not defenseless. They only wanted to run away.

And when a party of them said: O people of Yasrib! there is no place to stand for you (here), therefore go back; and a party of them asked permission of the prophet, saying. Surely our houses are exposed; and they were not exposed; they only desired to fly away.

Others said, [People of Yathrib, you cannot withstand [the enemy] here: so go back!] Yet others asked leave of the Prophet, saying, [Our houses are exposed and [defenceless].] They were in truth not exposed: they only wished to flee.

اور جب ان کے ایک گروہ نے کہہ دیا کہ مدینہ والو اب یہاں ٹھکانا نہیں ہے لہذا واپس بھاگ چلو اور ان میں سے ایک گروہ نبی سے اجازت مانگ رہا تھا کہ ہمارے گھر خالی پڑے ہوئے ہیں حالانکہ وہ گھر خالی نہیں تھے بلکہ یہ لوگ صرف بھاگنے کا ارادہ کررہے تھے

جب اُن میں سے ایک گروہ نے کہا کہ ——اے یثرب کے لوگو، تمہارے لیے اب ٹھیرنے کا کوئی موقع نہیں ہے، پلٹ چلو—— جب ان کا ایک فریق یہ کہہ کر نبیؐ سے رخصت طلب کر رہا تھا کہ ——ہمارے گھر خطرے میں ہیں،—— حالانکہ وہ خطرے میں نہ تھے، دراصل وہ (محاذ جنگ سے) بھاگنا چاہتے تھے

اور جب ان میں سے ایک گروہ نے کہا اے مدینہ والو! یہاں تمہارے ٹھہرنے کی جگہ نہیں تم گھروں کو واپس چلو اور ان میں سے ایک گروہ نبی سے اذن مانگتا تھا یہ کہہ کر ہمارے گھر بے حفاظت ہیں، اور وہ بے حفاظت نہ تھے، وہ تو نہ چاہتے تھے مگر بھاگنا،

اور وہ وقت یاد کرو جب ان میں سے ایک گروہ کہنے لگا کہ اے یثرب والو! اب (یہاں) تمہارے ٹھہرنے کا موقع نہیں ہے سو واپس چلو اور ان میں سے ایک گروہ یہ کہہ کر پیغمبرِ خدا (صلی اللہ علیہ و آلہ وسلم) سے اجازت مانگ رہا تھا کہ ہمارے گھر خالی (غیر محفوظ) ہیں حالانکہ وہ خالی (غیر محفوظ) نہیں تھے وہ تو صرف (محاذ سے) بھاگنا چاہتے تھے۔

وَلَوْ دُخِلَتْ عَلَيْهِم مِّنْ أَقْطَارِهَا ثُمَّ سُئِلُوا۟ ٱلْفِتْنَةَ لَـَٔاتَوْهَا وَمَا تَلَبَّثُوا۟ بِهَآ إِلَّا يَسِيرًۭا

⦿

If the enemy had entered from all sides and they had been exhorted to treachery, they would have committed it, and would have hesitated thereupon but little.

Had they been invaded from its flanks and had they been asked to apostatize, they would have done so with only a mild hesitation,

Had the army of the enemies invaded their homes and asked them to give-up their religion, they would have yielded to them without delay.

And if an entry were made upon them from the outlying parts of it, then they were asked to wage war, they would certainly have done it, and they would not have stayed in it but a little while.

حالانکہ اگر ان پر چاروں طرف سے لشکر داخل کردیئے جاتے اور پھر ان سے فتنہ کا سوال کیا جاتا تو فورا حاضر ہوجاتے اور تھوڑی دیر سے زیادہ نہ ٹہرتے

اگر شہر کے اطراف سے دشمن گھس آئے ہوتے اور اُس وقت انہیں فتنے کی طرف دعوت دی جاتی تو یہ اس میں جا پڑتے اور مشکل ہی سے انہیں شریک فتنہ ہونے میں کوئی تامل ہوتا

اور اگر ان پر فوجیں مدینہ کے اطراف سے آئیں پھر ان سے کفر چاہتیں تو ضرور ان کا مانگا دے بیٹھتے اور اس میں دیر نہ کرتے مگر تھوڑی

وَلَقَدْ كَانُوا۟ عَٰهَدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مِن قَبْلُ لَا يُوَلُّونَ ٱلْأَدْبَٰرَ ۚ وَكَانَ عَهْدُ ٱللَّهِ مَسْـُٔولًۭا

And verily they had already sworn unto Allah that they would not turn their backs (to the foe). An oath to Allah must be answered for.

though they had already pledged to Allah before that they would not turn their backs [to flee], and pledges given to Allah are accountable.

They had certainly promised God that they would not turn away. To promise God is certainly a (great) responsibility.

And certainly they had made a covenant with Allah before, that) they would not turn (their) backs; and Allah's covenant shall be inquired of.

قُل لَّن يَنفَعَكُمُ ٱلْفِرَارُ إِن فَرَرْتُم مِّنَ ٱلْمَوْتِ أَوِ ٱلْقَتْلِ وَإِذًۭا لَّا تُمَتَّعُونَ إِلَّا قَلِيلًۭا

Say: Flight will not avail you if ye flee from death or killing, and then ye dwell in comfort but a little while.

Say, [Flight will not avail you, if you flee from death, or from being killed, and then you will be let to enjoy only for a little while.]

(Muhammad), tell them, [Running away will never be of any benefit to you even if you run away from death or being killed. Still you would not be able to enjoy yourselves except for a short while.]

Say: Flight shall not do you any good if you fly from death or slaughter, and in that case you will not be allowed to enjoy yourselves but a little.

آپ کہہ دیجئے کہ اگر تم قتل یا موت کے خوف سے بھاگنا بھی چاہو تو فرار کام آنے والا نہیں ہے اور دنیا میں تھوڑا ہی آرام کرسکو گے

اے نبیؐ! ان سے کہو، اگر تم موت یا قتل سے بھاگو تو یہ بھاگنا تمہارے لیے کچھ بھی نفع بخش نہ ہو گا اس کے بعد زندگی کے مزے لوٹنے کا تھوڑا ہی موقع تمہیں مل سکے گا

تم فرماؤ ہرگز تمہیں بھاگنا نفع نہ دے گا اگر موت یا قتل سے بھاگو اور جب بھی دنیا نہ برتنے دیے جاؤ گے مگر تھوڑی

آپ کہہ دیجئے! کہ اگر تم موت یا قتل سے بھاگو تو یہ بھاگنا تمہیں کوئی فائدہ نہ دے گا اگر ایسا کیا بھی تو پھر بھی (زندگانی دنیا سے) تمہیں لطف اندوز ہونے کا بہت تھوڑا موقع دیا جائے گا۔

قُلْ مَن ذَا ٱلَّذِى يَعْصِمُكُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ إِنْ أَرَادَ بِكُمْ سُوٓءًا أَوْ أَرَادَ بِكُمْ رَحْمَةًۭ ۚ وَلَا يَجِدُونَ لَهُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَلِيًّۭا وَلَا نَصِيرًۭا

Say: Who is he who can preserve you from Allah if He intendeth harm for you, or intendeth mercy for you. They will not find that they have any friend or helper other than Allah.

Say, [Who is it that can protect you from Allah if He desires to cause you harm or desires to grant you His mercy?] Besides Allah they will not find for themselves any protector or helper.

Say, [Who can prevent God from punishing you or granting you mercy? They will not find anyone besides God as their guardian or helper.]

Say: Who is it that can withhold you from Allah if He intends to do you evil, rather He intends to show you mercy? And they will not find for themselves besides Allah any guardian or a helper.

Say, [Who is there to shield you from God if He wishes to harm you? If God wishes to show you mercy, who can prevent Him.] Besides God they shall find none to protect them, and none to bring them succour.

کہہ دیجئے کہ اگر خدا برائی کا ارادہ کرلے یا بھلائی ہی کرنا چاہے تو تمہیں اس سے کون بچاسکتا ہے اور یہ لوگ اس کے علاوہ نہ کوئی سرپرست پاسکتے ہیں اور نہ مددگار

اِن سے کہو، کون ہے جو تمہیں اللہ سے بچا سکتا ہو اگر وہ تمہیں نقصان پہنچانا چاہے؟ اور کون اس کی رحمت کو روک سکتا ہے اگر وہ تم پر مہربانی کرنا چاہے؟ اللہ کے مقابلے میں تو یہ لوگ کوئی حامی و مدد گار نہیں پا سکتے ہیں

تم فرماؤ وہ کون ہے جو اللہ کا حکم تم پر سے ٹال دے اگر وہ تمہارا برا چاہے یا تم پر مہر (رحم) فرمانا چاہے اور وہ اللہ کے سوا کوئی حامی نہ پائیں گے نہ مددگار،

قَدْ يَعْلَمُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْمُعَوِّقِينَ مِنكُمْ وَٱلْقَآئِلِينَ لِإِخْوَٰنِهِمْ هَلُمَّ إِلَيْنَا ۖ وَلَا يَأْتُونَ ٱلْبَأْسَ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا

⦿

Allah already knoweth those of you who hinder, and those who say unto their brethren: [Come ye hither unto us!] and they come not to the stress of battle save a little,

Allah knows those of you who discourage others, and those who say to their brethren, [Come to us!] and take little part in the battle,

God certainly knows those among you who create obstacles (on the way that leads to God) and those who say to their brothers, 'Come quickly to us' and very rarely take part in the fighting.

Allah knows indeed those among you who hinder others and those who say to their brethren: Come to us; and they come not to the fight but a little,

اللہ تم میں سے اُن لوگوں کو خوب جانتا ہے جو (جنگ کے کام میں) رکاوٹیں ڈالنے والے ہیں، جو اپنے بھائیوں سے کہتے ہیں کہ ——آؤ ہماری طرف—— جو لڑائی میں حصہ لیتے بھی ہیں تو بس نام گنانے کو

بیشک اللہ جانتا ہے تمہارے ان کو جو اوروں کو جہاد سے روکتے ہیں اور اپنے بھائیوں سے کہتے ہیں ہماری طرف چلے آؤ اور لڑائی میں نہیں آتے مگر تھوڑے

أَشِحَّةً عَلَيْكُمْ ۖ فَإِذَا جَآءَ ٱلْخَوْفُ رَأَيْتَهُمْ يَنظُرُونَ إِلَيْكَ تَدُورُ أَعْيُنُهُمْ كَٱلَّذِى يُغْشَىٰ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ ٱلْمَوْتِ ۖ فَإِذَا ذَهَبَ ٱلْخَوْفُ سَلَقُوكُم بِأَلْسِنَةٍ حِدَادٍ أَشِحَّةً عَلَى ٱلْخَيْرِ ۚ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ لَمْ يُؤْمِنُوا۟ فَأَحْبَطَ ٱللَّهُ أَعْمَٰلَهُمْ ۚ وَكَانَ ذَٰلِكَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ يَسِيرًۭا

Being sparing of their help to you (believers). But when the fear cometh, then thou (Muhammad) seest them regarding thee with rolling eyes like one who fainteth unto death. Then, when the fear departeth, they scald you with sharp tongues in their greed for wealth (from the spoil). Such have not believed. Therefor Allah maketh their deeds fruitless. And that is easy for Allah.

Then, when the panic is over, they scald you with [their] sharp tongues in their greed for the spoils. They never have had faith. So Allah has made their works fail, and that is easy for Allah.

They are niggardly in spending for you. When fear comes, you can see them looking at you, their eyes rolling about like to faint because of the agony of death. When their fear subsides, they start to bite you with their sharp tongues. They are miserly in spending for a virtuous cause and have no faith. God has turned their deeds devoid of all virtue. This was not at all difficult for God.

Being niggardly with respect to you; but when fear comes, you will see them looking to you, their eyes rolling like one swooning because of death; but when the fear is gone they smite you with sharp tongues, being niggardly of the good things. These have not believed, therefore Allah has made their doing naught; and this is easy to Allah.

جو تمہارا ساتھ دینے میں سخت بخیل ہیں خطرے کا وقت آ جائے تو اس طرح دیدے پھرا پھرا کر تمہاری طرف دیکھتے ہیں جیسے کسی مرنے والے پر غشی طاری ہو رہی ہو، مگر جب خطرہ گزر جاتا ہے تو یہی لوگ فائدوں کے حریص بن کر قینچی کی طرح چلتی ہوئی زبانیں لیے تمہارے استقبال کو آ جاتے ہیں یہ لوگ ہرگز ایمان نہیں لائے، اسی لیے اللہ نے ان کے سارے اعمال ضائع کر دیے اور ایسا کرنا اللہ کے لیے بہت آسان ہے

يَحْسَبُونَ ٱلْأَحْزَابَ لَمْ يَذْهَبُوا۟ ۖ وَإِن يَأْتِ ٱلْأَحْزَابُ يَوَدُّوا۟ لَوْ أَنَّهُم بَادُونَ فِى ٱلْأَعْرَابِ يَسْـَٔلُونَ عَنْ أَنۢبَآئِكُمْ ۖ وَلَوْ كَانُوا۟ فِيكُم مَّا قَٰتَلُوٓا۟ إِلَّا قَلِيلًۭا

They hold that the clans have not retired (for good); and if the clans should advance (again), they would fain be in the desert with the wandering Arabs, asking for the news of you; and if they were among you, they would not give battle, save a little.

They suppose the confederates have not left yet, and were the confederates to come [again], they would wish they were in the desert with the Bedouins asking about your news, and if they were with you they would fight but a little.

And when the true believers saw the clans, they said: This is that which Allah and His messenger promised us. Allah and His messenger are true. It did but confirm them in their faith and resignation.

Of the believers are men who are true to that which they covenanted with Allah. Some of them have paid their vow by death (in battle), and some of them still are waiting; and they have not altered in the least;

This website is a work of passion. It exists only for a couple of reasons:

1) I wanted to understand the Book without involving any second-party sources of guidance i.e. exegesis, or Asbab-e-Nuzul, or extra-Quranic ahadith, etc.
2) You must also know what the bare truth is, so we can work together.

Because the process must be transparent, the entire website is available for you to download. You can go through the code, and if you can make any improvements to this process, you are most welcome to. It is a humble request to update me regarding the improvements so I can also update myself.

Due Credits:

This website was possible by help of many people and forums who helped me to learn Arabic, Philosophy, Law, Psychology, and PHP and other Web scripts. To be honest, I do not even know the names of many but I did learn from them. Some of these people were already dead by the time I read their input.

The Arabic text of the Quran was obtained from Tanzil. The additional translations were also obtained from Tanzil from this link.
