وَأَلْقِ

١٠

وَأَلْقِ عَصَاكَ ۚ فَلَمَّا رَءَاهَا تَهْتَزُّ كَأَنَّهَا جَآنٌّۭ وَلَّىٰ مُدْبِرًۭا وَلَمْ يُعَقِّبْ ۚ يَٰمُوسَىٰ لَا تَخَفْ إِنِّى لَا يَخَافُ لَدَىَّ ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ

⦿

And throw down thy staff! But when he saw it writhing as it were a demon, he turned to flee headlong; (but it was said unto him): O Moses! Fear not! the emissaries fear not in My presence,

[Throw down your staff!] When he saw it wriggling, as if it were a snake, he turned his back [to flee], without looking back. [O Moses! [Do not be afraid. Indeed the apostles are not afraid before Me,

⦿

Throw down your staff.] When Moses saw his staff on the ground moving like a living creature, he stepped back and did not come forward again. The Lord said,]Moses, do not be afraid. Messengers do not become afraid in My presence].

And cast down your staff. So when he saw it in motion as if it were a serpent, he turned back retreating and did not return: O Musa! fear not; surely the apostles shall not fear in My presence;

Throw down your staff.] But when he saw it moving like a snake, he turned and fled. [Moses, do not be afraid! The messengers need have no fear in My presence;

اب تم اپنے عصا کو زمین پر ڈال دو اس کے بعد موسیٰ نے جب دیکھا تو کیا دیکھا کہ وہ سانپ کی طرح لہرا رہا ہے موسیٰ الٹے پاؤں پلٹ پڑے اور مڑ کر بھی نہ دیکھا آواز آئی کہ موسیٰ ڈرو نہیں میری بارگاہ میں مرسلین نہیں ڈرا کرتے ہیں

اور پھینک تو ذرا اپنی لاٹھی—— جونہی کہ موسیٰؑ نے دیکھا لاٹھی سانپ کی طرح بل کھا رہی ہے تو پیٹھ پھیر کر بھاگا اور پیچھے مڑ کر بھی نہ دیکھا ——اے موسیٰؑ، ڈرو نہیں میرے حضور رسول ڈرا نہیں کرتے

اور اپنا عصا ڈال دے پھر موسیٰ نے اسے دیکھا لہراتا ہوا گویا سانپ ہے پیٹھ پھیر کر چلا اور مڑ کر نہ دیکھا، ہم نے فرمایا اے موسیٰ ڈر نہیں، بیشک میرے حضور رسولوں کو خوف نہیں ہوتا

اور تم اپنا عصا پھینکو۔ پھر جب انہوں نے اسے دیکھا کہ وہ حرکت کر رہا ہے جیسے کہ وہ ایک سانپ ہے تو وہ پیٹھ پھیر کر مڑے اور پیچھے پلٹ کر بھی نہ دیکھا (ہم نے آواز دی) اے موسیٰ خوف نہ کرو۔ میں وہ ہوں کہ میرے حضور پیغمبر خوف نہیں کرتے۔

⦿

Save him who hath done wrong and afterward hath changed evil for good. And lo! I am Forgiving, Merciful.

nor those who do wrong and then make up for [their] fault with goodness, for indeed I am all-forgiving, all-merciful.]

Only the unjust become afraid in My presence. Even to these people who replace their bad deeds by good ones, I am All-forgiving and All-merciful.

Neither he who has been unjust, then he does good instead after evil, for surely I am the Forgiving, the Merciful:

١٢

وَأَدْخِلْ يَدَكَ فِى جَيْبِكَ تَخْرُجْ بَيْضَآءَ مِنْ غَيْرِ سُوٓءٍۢ ۖ فِى تِسْعِ ءَايَٰتٍ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ وَقَوْمِهِۦٓ ۚ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ قَوْمًۭا فَٰسِقِينَ

⦿

And put thy hand into the bosom of thy robe, it will come forth white but unhurt. (This will be one) among nine tokens unto Pharaoh and his people Lo! they were ever evil-living folk.

⦿

[Insert your hand into your shirt. It will emerge white and bright, without any fault—among nine signs meant for Pharaoh and his people. Indeed they are a transgressing lot.]

⦿

Put your hand into your pocket. It will come out sheer white but unharmed. This is one of the nine miracles which shall be showing to the Pharaoh and his people; they are truly wicked men.]

And enter your hand into the opening of your bosom, it shall come forth white without evil; among nine signs to Firon and his people, surely they are a transgressing people.

Now put your hand inside your cloak next to your bosom and it will come out [shining] white, without any blemish. This will be one of the nine signs for Pharaoh and his people: for truly they are a rebellious people.]

اور اپنے ہاتھ کو گریبان میں ڈال کر نکالو تو دیکھو گے کہ بغیر کسی بیماری کے سفید چمکدار نکلتا ہے یہ ان نو معجزات میں سے ایک ہے جنہیں فرعون اور اس کی قوم کے لئے دیا گیا ہے کہ یہ بڑی بدکار قوم ہے

اور ذرا اپنا ہاتھ اپنے گریبان میں تو ڈالو چمکتا ہوا نکلے گا بغیر کسی تکلیف کے یہ (دو نشانیاں) نو نشانیوں میں سے ہیں فرعون اور اس کی قوم کی طرف (لے جانے کے لیے)، وہ بڑے بد کردار لوگ ہیں——

اور اپنا ہاتھ اپنے گریبان میں ڈال نکلے گا سفید چمکتا بے عیب نو نشانیوں میں فرعون اور اس کی قوم کی طرف، بیشک وہ بے حکم لوگ ہیں،

اور اپنا ہاتھ اپنے گریبان میں ڈالو تو وہ کسی بیماری کے بغیر چمکتا ہوا نکلے گا (یہ دو معجزے ہیں) ان نو معجزات میں سے جنہیں لے کر آپ نے فرعون اور اس کی قوم کے پاس جانا ہے۔ وہ بڑے ہی نافرمان لوگ ہیں۔

Ants [ 27:13 ] النمل

فَلَمَّا

Thus then when

جَآءَتْهُمْ

came to them

ءَايَٰتُنَا

Our signs

مُبْصِرَةًۭ

of enlightenment

قَالُوا۟

they said,

هَٰذَا

[This is

سِحْرٌۭ

an illusion

مُّبِينٌۭ

clearly.]

٢٧

١٣

فَلَمَّا جَآءَتْهُمْ ءَايَٰتُنَا مُبْصِرَةًۭ قَالُوا۟ هَٰذَا سِحْرٌۭ مُّبِينٌۭ

Thus then when came to them Our signs of enlightenment they said, [This is an illusion clearly.]

But when Our tokens came unto them, plain to see, they said: This is mere magic,

But when Our signs came to them, as eye-openers, they said, [This is plain magic.]

When Our miracles were visibly shown to them, they said, [It is plain magic].

So when Our clear signs came to them, they said: This is clear enchantment.

But when Our signs came to them in all their clarity they said, [This is clearly sorcery!]

مگر جب بھی ان کے پاس واضح نشانیاں آئیں تو انہوں نے کہہ دیا کہ یہ کِھلا ہوا جادو ہے

مگر جب ہماری کھلی کھلی نشانیاں اُن لوگوں کے سامنے آئیں تو انہوں نے کہا یہ تو کھلا جادو ہے

پھر جب ہماری نشانیاں آنکھیں کھولتی ان کے پاس آئیں بولے یہ تو صریح جادو ہے،

١٤

وَجَحَدُوا۟ بِهَا وَٱسْتَيْقَنَتْهَآ أَنفُسُهُمْ ظُلْمًۭا وَعُلُوًّۭا ۚ فَٱنظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَٰقِبَةُ ٱلْمُفْسِدِينَ

⦿

And they denied them, though their souls acknowledged them, for spite and arrogance. Then see the nature of the consequence for the wrong-doers!

They impugned them, wrongfully and out of arrogance, though they were convinced in their hearts [of their veracity]. So observe how the fate of the agents of corruption was!

They rejected the evidence because of their arrogance and injustice, although their souls knew it to be true. Think how terrible the end of the sinful ones was!

And they denied them unjustly and proudly while their soul had been convinced of them; consider, then how was the end of the mischief-makers.

And they persisted in rejecting them wrongfully and arrogantly, while in their hearts they were convinced of their truth. Observe, then, how evil was the fate of the evil-doers.

ان لوگوں نے ظلم اور غرور کے جذبہ کی بنائ پر انکار کردیا تھا ورنہ ان کے دل کو بالکل یقین تھا پھر دیکھو کہ ایسے مفسدین کا انجام کیا ہوتا ہے

انہوں نے سراسر ظلم اور غرور کی راہ سے ان نشانیوں کا انکار کیا حالانکہ دل ان کے قائل ہو چکے تھے اب دیکھ لو کہ ان مفسدوں کا انجام کیسا ہوا

اور ان کے منکر ہوئے اور ان کے دلوں میں ان کا یقین تھا ظلم اور تکبر سے تو دیکھو کیسا انجام ہوا فسادیوں کا

اور ان لوگوں نے ظلم و تکبر کی راہ سے ان (معجزات) کا انکار کر دیا۔ حالانکہ ان کے نفوس (دلوں) کو ان کا یقین تھا۔ اب دیکھو کہ فساد کرنے والوں کا انجام کیا ہوا؟

وَلَقَدْ

And certainly

ءَاتَيْنَا

We gave to

دَاوُۥدَ

Dawood

وَسُلَيْمَٰنَ

and Suleimaan

عِلْمًۭا

knowledge;

وَقَالَا

and they both said,

ٱلْحَمْدُ

[The power is

لِلَّهِ

for the One —

ٱلَّذِى

the Entity who

فَضَّلَنَا

raised us

عَلَىٰ

above

كَثِيرٍۢ

many

مِّنْ

عِبَادِهِ

His slaves

ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

the sure-ones.]

٢٧

١٥

وَلَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَا دَاوُۥدَ وَسُلَيْمَٰنَ عِلْمًۭا ۖ وَقَالَا ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ ٱلَّذِى فَضَّلَنَا عَلَىٰ كَثِيرٍۢ مِّنْ عِبَادِهِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

And certainly We gave to Dawood and Suleimaan knowledge; and they both said, [The power is for the One — the Entity who raised us above many of His slaves the sure-ones.]

⦿

And We verily gave knowledge unto David and Solomon, and they said: Praise be to Allah, Who hath preferred us above many of His believing slaves!

Certainly, We gave knowledge to David and Solomon, and they said, [All praise belongs to Allah, who granted us an advantage over many of His faithful servants.]

⦿

We gave knowledge to David and Soloman. They said, [It is only God who deserves all praise. He has exalted us above many of His believing servants.]

And certainly We gave knowledge to Dawood and Sulaiman, and they both said: Praise be to Allah, Who has made us to excel many of His believing servants.

We bestowed knowledge on David and Solomon and they both said, [Praise be to God who has exalted us above many of His believing servants.]

اور ہم نے داؤد اور سلیمان کو علم عطا کیا تو دونوں نے کہا کہ خدا کا شکر ہے کہ اس نے ہمیں بہت سے بندوں پر فضیلت عطا کی ہے

(دوسری طرف) ہم نے داؤدؑ و سلیمانؑ کو علم عطا کیا اور انہوں نے کہا کہ شکر ہے اُس خدا کا جس نے ہم کو اپنے بہت سے مومن بندوں پر فضیلت عطا کی

اور بیشک ہم نے داؤد اور سلیمان کو بڑا علم عطا فرمایا اور دونوں نے کہا سب خوبیاں اللہ کو جس نے ہمیں اپنے بہت سے ایمان والے بندوں پر فضیلت بخشی

اور ہم نے داؤد اور سلیمان کو (خاص) علم عطا فرمایا۔ اور ان دونوں نے کہا کہ ہر قِسم کی تعریف اس اللہ کے لئے ہے جس نے ہمیں اپنے بہت سے مؤمن بندوں پر فضیلت عطا کی ہے۔

ٱلنَّاسُ

عُلِّمْنَا

مَنطِقَ

ٱلطَّيْرِ

وَأُوتِينَا

[untranslated]

مِن

[untranslated]

كُلِّ

شَىْءٍ

إِنَّ

هَٰذَا

لَهُوَ

ٱلْفَضْلُ

١٦

وَوَرِثَ سُلَيْمَٰنُ دَاوُۥدَ ۖ وَقَالَ يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ عُلِّمْنَا مَنطِقَ ٱلطَّيْرِ وَأُوتِينَا مِن كُلِّ شَىْءٍ ۖ إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَهُوَ ٱلْفَضْلُ ٱلْمُبِينُ

⦿

And Solomon was David's heir. And he said: O mankind! Lo! we have been taught the language of birds, and have been given (abundance) of all things. This surely is evident favour.

Solomon inherited from David, and he said, [O people! We have been taught the speech of the birds, and we have been given out of everything. Indeed this is a manifest advantage.]

⦿

Solomon became the heir to David. He said, [People, we have been taught the language of the birds and have been granted a share of everything. This indeed is a manifest favor (from God)].

⦿

And Sulaiman was Dawood's heir, and he said: O men! we have been taught the language of birds, and we have been given all things; most surely this is manifest grace.

Solomon succeeded David. He said, [Know, my people, that we have been taught the speech of birds and endowed with all good things. Surely this is God's manifest grace.]

اور پھر سلیمان داؤد کے وارث ہوئے اور انہوں نے کہا کہ لوگو مجھے پرندوں کی باتوں کا علم دیا گیا ہے اور ہر فضیلت کا ایک حصہ عطا کیا گیا ہے اور یہ خدا کا کھلا ہوا فضل و کرم ہے

اور داؤدؑ کا وارث سلیمانؑ ہوا اور اس نے کہا ——“لوگو، ہمیں پرندوں کی بولیاں سکھائی گئی ہیں اور ہمیں ہر طرح کی چیزیں دی گئی ہیں، بیشک یہ (اللہ کا) نمایاں فضل ہے——

اور سلیمان داؤد کا جانشین ہوا اور کہا اے لوگو! ہمیں پرندوں کی بولی سکھائی گئی اور ہر چیز میں سے ہم کو عطا ہوا بیشک یہی ظاہر فضل ہے

وَحُشِرَ لِسُلَيْمَٰنَ جُنُودُهُۥ مِنَ ٱلْجِنِّ وَٱلْإِنسِ وَٱلطَّيْرِ فَهُمْ يُوزَعُونَ

And there were gathered together unto Solomon his armies of the jinn and humankind, and of the birds, and they were set in battle order;

حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَآ أَتَوْا۟ عَلَىٰ وَادِ ٱلنَّمْلِ قَالَتْ نَمْلَةٌۭ يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّمْلُ ٱدْخُلُوا۟ مَسَٰكِنَكُمْ لَا يَحْطِمَنَّكُمْ سُلَيْمَٰنُ وَجُنُودُهُۥ وَهُمْ لَا يَشْعُرُونَ

Till, when they reached the Valley of the Ants, an ant exclaimed: O ants! Enter your dwellings lest Solomon and his armies crush you, unperceiving.

فَتَبَسَّمَ ضَاحِكًۭا مِّن قَوْلِهَا وَقَالَ رَبِّ أَوْزِعْنِىٓ أَنْ أَشْكُرَ نِعْمَتَكَ ٱلَّتِىٓ أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَىَّ وَعَلَىٰ وَٰلِدَىَّ وَأَنْ أَعْمَلَ صَٰلِحًۭا تَرْضَىٰهُ وَأَدْخِلْنِى بِرَحْمَتِكَ فِى عِبَادِكَ ٱلصَّٰلِحِينَ

And (Solomon) smiled, laughing at her speech, and said: My Lord, arouse me to be thankful for Thy favour wherewith Thou hast favoured me and my parents, and to do good that shall be pleasing unto Thee, and include me in (the number of) Thy righteous slaves.

Whereat he smiled, amused at its words, and he said, [My Lord! Inspire me to give thanks for Your blessing with which You have blessed me and my parents, and that I may do righteous deeds which please You, and admit me, by Your mercy, among Your righteous servants.]

1) I wanted to understand the Book without involving any second-party sources of guidance i.e. exegesis, or Asbab-e-Nuzul, or extra-Quranic ahadith, etc.
