إِذْ
When
تَلَقَّوْنَهُۥ
you came upon it
بِأَلْسِنَتِكُمْ
through your language,
وَتَقُولُونَ
and you said
بِأَفْوَاهِكُم
by your mouths,
مَّا
that which
لَيْسَ
not
لَكُم
for you was
بِهِۦ
about it
عِلْمٌۭ
any knowledge,
وَتَحْسَبُونَهُۥ
and you accord it as
هَيِّنًۭا
of little importance,
وَهُوَ
while it is
عِندَ
near
ٱللَّهِ
the One
عَظِيمٌۭ
of great importance.
٢٤
١٥
إِذْ تَلَقَّوْنَهُۥ بِأَلْسِنَتِكُمْ وَتَقُولُونَ بِأَفْوَاهِكُم مَّا لَيْسَ لَكُم بِهِۦ عِلْمٌۭ وَتَحْسَبُونَهُۥ هَيِّنًۭا وَهُوَ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ عَظِيمٌۭ When you came upon it through your language, and you said by your mouths, that which not for you was about it any knowledge, and you accord it as of little importance, while it is near the One of great importance.

When ye welcomed it with your tongues, and uttered with your mouths that whereof ye had no knowledge, ye counted it a trifle. In the sight of Allah it is very great. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

when you were receiving it on your tongues, and were mouthing something of which you had no knowledge, supposing it to be a light matter, while it was a grave [matter] with Allah. - Qarai, Ali Quli

Your tongues moved and your mouths spoke of something of which you had no knowledge. You thought it to be a trivial matter, while in the eyes of God it is blasphemy. - Sarwar, Muhammad

When you received it with your tongues and spoke with your mouths what you had no knowledge of, and you deemed it an easy matter while with Allah it was grievous. - Shakir, Habib

When you were spreading it with your tongues and saying with your mouths things of which you had no knowledge, you considered it to be a trivial matter, but, in God's sight, it was very serious. - Wahiduddin Khan

جب تم اپنی زبان سے چرچا کررہے تھے اور اپنے منہ سے وہ بات نکال رہے تھے جس کا تمہیں علم بھی نہیں تھا اور تم اسے بہت معمولی بات سمجھ رہے تھے حالانکہ اللہ کے نزدیک وہ بہت بڑی بات تھی - Jawadi, Zeeshan

(ذرا غور تو کرو، اُس وقت تم کیسی سخت غلطی کر رہے تھے) جبکہ تمہاری ایک زبان سے دوسری زبان اس جھوٹ کو لیتی جا رہی تھی اور تم اپنے منہ سے وہ کچھ کہے جا رہے تھے جس کے متعلق تمہیں کوئی علم نہ تھا تم اسے ایک معمولی بات سمجھ رہے تھے، حالانکہ اللہ کے نزدیک یہ بڑی بات تھی - Maududi, Abul A'ala

جب تم لوگ اس (بہتان) کو ایک دوسرے کی زبان سے نقل کر رہے تھے اور اپنے مونہوں سے وہ بات کہہ رہے تھے جس کا خود تمہیں علم نہیں تھا۔ اور تم اسے ایک معمولی بات سمجھ رہے تھے۔ حالانکہ اللہ کے نزدیک وہ بہت بڑی بات تھی۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

وَلَوْلَآ
And how come
إِذْ
when
سَمِعْتُمُوهُ
you heard of it
قُلْتُم
you (not) said,
مَّا
[Not
يَكُونُ
it is
لَنَآ
for us
أَن
that
نَّتَكَلَّمَ
we speak
بِهَٰذَا
about it,
سُبْحَٰنَكَ
be you glorious!
هَٰذَا
This is
بُهْتَٰنٌ
a slander of
عَظِيمٌۭ
great magnitude.]
٢٤
١٦
وَلَوْلَآ إِذْ سَمِعْتُمُوهُ قُلْتُم مَّا يَكُونُ لَنَآ أَن نَّتَكَلَّمَ بِهَٰذَا سُبْحَٰنَكَ هَٰذَا بُهْتَٰنٌ عَظِيمٌۭ And how come when you heard of it you (not) said, [Not it is for us that we speak about it, be you glorious! This is a slander of great magnitude.]
⦿
Wherefor, when ye heard it, said ye not: It is not for us to speak of this. Glory be to Thee (O Allah)! This is awful calumny. - Pickthall, Marmaduke
⦿
And why did you not, when you heard it, say, [It is not for us to say such a thing. [O Allah!] You are immaculate! This is a monstrous calumny!] - Qarai, Ali Quli
⦿
Would that on hearing this report, you had said, [We have nothing to say about it. God forbid! It is a serious accusation.] - Sarwar, Muhammad
⦿
And why did you not, when you heard it, say: It does not beseem us that we should talk of it; glory be to Thee! this is a great calumny? - Shakir, Habib
⦿
When you heard it, why did you not say, [It is not right for us to speak of this. God forbid! This is a monstrous slander.] - Wahiduddin Khan

اور کیوں نہ ایسا ہوا کہ جب تم لوگوں نے اس بات کو سنا تھا تو کہتے کہ ہمیں ایسی بات کہنے کا کوئی حق نہیں ہے خدایا تو پاک و بے نیاز ہے اور یہ بہت بڑا بہتان ہے - Jawadi, Zeeshan

کیوں نہ اُسے سنتے ہی تم نے کہہ دیا کہ ——ہمیں ایسی بات زبان سے نکالنا زیب نہیں دیتا، سبحان اللہ، یہ تو ایک بہتان عظیم ہے—— - Maududi, Abul A'ala

اور کیوں نہ ہوا جب تم نے سنا تھا کہا ہوتا کہ ہمیں نہیں پہنچتا کہ ایسی بات کہیں الہٰی پاکی ہے تجھے یہ بڑا بہتان ہے، - Ahmed Raza

اور ایسا کیوں نہ ہوا کہ جب تم نے یہ (افواہ) سنی تھی تو کہہ دیتے کہ ہمارے لئے زیبا نہیں ہے کہ یہ بات منہ سے نکالیں۔ سبحان اللہ! یہ تو بڑا بہتان ہے۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

Admonishes you all,
ٱللَّهُ
the One,
أَن

تَعُودُوا۟

لِمِثْلِهِۦٓ
to an instance like this
أَبَدًا
ever,
إِن

كُنتُم
you are
مُّؤْمِنِينَ
of conviction.
Admonishes you all, the One, from returning to an instance like this ever, if you are of conviction.
⦿
Allah admonisheth you that ye repeat not the like thereof ever, if ye are (in truth) believers. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Allah advises you lest you should ever repeat the like of it, should you be faithful. - Qarai, Ali Quli

God advises you never to do such things again if you have any faith. - Sarwar, Muhammad

Allah admonishes you that you should not return to the like of it ever again if you are believers. - Shakir, Habib

اللرُتم کو نصیحت کرتا ہے کہ اگر تم صاحبِ ایمان ہو تو اب ایسی حرکت دوبارہ ہرگز نہ کرنا - Jawadi, Zeeshan

وَيُبَيِّنُ
And clarifies,
ٱللَّهُ
the One,
لَكُمُ
for you
ٱلْـَٔايَٰتِ
the signs;
ۚ
وَٱللَّهُ
and the One is
عَلِيمٌ
knowledged,
حَكِيمٌ
is of wisdom.
And clarifies, the One, for you the signs; and the One is knowledged, is of wisdom.

And He expoundeth unto you the revelations. Allah is Knower, Wise. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Allah clarifies the signs for you, and Allah is all-knowing, all-wise. - Qarai, Ali Quli

God explains to you His revelations. He is All-knowing and All-wise. - Sarwar, Muhammad

اور اللہ تمہارے لئے اپنی نشانیوں کو واضح کرکے بیان کرتا ہے اور وہ صاحبِ علم بھی ہے اور صاحبِ حکمت بھی ہے - Jawadi, Zeeshan

اور اللہ تمہارے لئے (اپنی) آیتیں کھول کر بیان کرتا ہے۔ اور اللہ بڑا جاننے والا، بڑا حکمت والا ہے۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

Indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ
the ones
يُحِبُّونَ
who love

تَشِيعَ
become common practice
ٱلْفَٰحِشَةُ
the vulgarities
فِى
within
ٱلَّذِينَ
the ones
ءَامَنُوا۟
of conviction,
لَهُمْ
for them
عَذَابٌ
a punishment
أَلِيمٌۭ
that is painful
فِى
in
ٱلدُّنْيَا
the World
وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ
and the forth-coming;
ۚ
وَٱللَّهُ
and the One
يَعْلَمُ
knows
وَأَنتُمْ
while you are
لَا
not
تَعْلَمُونَ
who knows.
٢٤
١٩
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يُحِبُّونَ أَن تَشِيعَ ٱلْفَٰحِشَةُ فِى ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌۭ فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ وَأَنتُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَ Indeed the ones who love that become common practice the vulgarities within the ones of conviction, for them a punishment that is painful in the World and the forth-coming; and the One knows while you are not who knows.

Lo! those who love that slander should be spread concerning those who believe, theirs will be a painful punishment in the world and the Hereafter. Allah knoweth. Ye know not. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Indeed those who want indecency to spread among the faithful—there is a painful punishment for them in the world and the Hereafter, and Allah knows and you do not know. - Qarai, Ali Quli

Those who like to publicize indecency among the believers will face painful torment in this world and in the life to come. God knows what you do not know. - Sarwar, Muhammad

Surely (as for) those who love that scandal should circulate respecting those who believe, they shall have a grievous chastisement in this world and the hereafter; and Allah knows, while you do not know. - Shakir, Habib

Those who desire that indecencies should spread among the believers, will have a painful chastisement in this world and the Hereafter. God knows, and you do not know. - Wahiduddin Khan

جو لوگ یہ چاہتے ہیں کہ صاحبانِ ایمان میں بدکاری کا چرچا پھیل جائے ان کے لئے بڑا دردناک عذاب ہے دنیا میں بھی اور آخرت میں بھی اور اللہ سب کچھ جانتا ہے صرف تم نہیں جانتے ہو - Jawadi, Zeeshan

جو لوگ چاہتے ہیں کہ ایمان لانے والوں کے گروہ میں فحش پھیلے وہ دنیا اور آخرت میں دردناک سزا کے مستحق ہیں، اللہ جانتا ہے اور تم نہیں جانتے - Maududi, Abul A'ala

وہ لوگ جو چاہتے ہیں کہ مسلمانوں میں برا چرچا پھیلے ان کے لیے دردناک عذاب ہے دنیا اور آخرت میں اور اللہ جانتا ہے اور تم نہیں جانتے، - Ahmed Raza

اور جو لوگ چاہتے ہیں کہ اہلِ ایمان میں بے حیائی و برائی کی اشاعت ہو (اور اس کا چرچا ہو) ان کیلئے دنیا و آخرت میں دردناک عذاب ہے۔ اور اللہ جانتا ہے اور تم نہیں جانتے۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

وَلَوْلَا
And what if not was
فَضْلُ
a favour of
ٱللَّهِ
the One
عَلَيْكُمْ
upon you all
وَرَحْمَتُهُۥ
and His blessing,
وَأَنَّ
and that (not)
ٱللَّهَ
the One was
رَءُوفٌۭ
compassionate,
رَّحِيمٌۭ
merciful?
And what if not was a favour of the One upon you all and His blessing, and that (not) the One was compassionate, merciful?
⦿
Had it not been for the grace of Allah and His mercy unto you, and that Allah is Clement, Merciful, (ye had been undone). - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Were it not for Allah]s grace and His mercy upon you, and that Allah is all-kind, all-merciful… - Qarai, Ali Quli
⦿
Were it not for the favor and mercy of God upon you (you would have faced painful punishment in this world and the life to come). God is Compassionate and Merciful. - Sarwar, Muhammad

And were it not for Allah's grace on you and His mercy, and that Allah is Compassionate, Merciful. - Shakir, Habib

But for the grace of God and His mercy upon you, and were not God compassionate and merciful, [you would have come to grief]. - Wahiduddin Khan

اور اگر اللہ کا فضل اور اس کی رحمت تمہارے شامل حال نہ ہوتی اور وہ شفیق اور مہربان نہ ہوتا - Jawadi, Zeeshan

اگر اللہ کا فضل اور اس کا رحم و کرم تم پر نہ ہوتا اور یہ بات نہ ہوتی کہ اللہ بڑا شفیق و رحیم ہے (تو یہ چیز جو ابھی تمہارے اندر پھیلائی گئی تھی بدترین نتائج دکھا دیتی) - Maududi, Abul A'ala

O you of
ٱلَّذِينَ
the ones who
ءَامَنُوا۟
have conviction!
لَا
Do not
تَتَّبِعُوا۟
follow
خُطُوَٰتِ
the writings of
ٱلشَّيْطَٰنِ
the (religious) mind-locked devils;
ۚ
وَمَن
and whoever
يَتَّبِعْ
followed
خُطُوَٰتِ
writings of
ٱلشَّيْطَٰنِ
the devil,
فَإِنَّهُۥ
thus certainly he
يَأْمُرُ
gives commands that are
بِٱلْفَحْشَآءِ
about the vulgarity
وَٱلْمُنكَرِ
and the forbidden.
ۚ
وَلَوْلَا
And had it not been for
فَضْلُ
a favour from
ٱللَّهِ
the One
عَلَيْكُمْ
upon you
وَرَحْمَتُهُۥ
and His blessing,
مَا
not
زَكَىٰ
would be emancipated
مِنكُم
from you
مِّنْ
even
أَحَدٍ
one
أَبَدًۭا
forever,
وَلَٰكِنَّ
however
ٱللَّهَ
the One
يُزَكِّى
emancipates
مَن
whom
يَشَآءُ
He desires;
ۗ
وَٱللَّهُ
and the One is
سَمِيعٌ
hearing,
عَلِيمٌۭ
well informed.
٢٤
٢١
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تَتَّبِعُوا۟ خُطُوَٰتِ ٱلشَّيْطَٰنِ ۚ وَمَن يَتَّبِعْ خُطُوَٰتِ ٱلشَّيْطَٰنِ فَإِنَّهُۥ يَأْمُرُ بِٱلْفَحْشَآءِ وَٱلْمُنكَرِ ۚ وَلَوْلَا فَضْلُ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَتُهُۥ مَا زَكَىٰ مِنكُم مِّنْ أَحَدٍ أَبَدًۭا وَلَٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُزَكِّى مَن يَشَآءُ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌۭ O you of the ones who have conviction! Do not follow the writings of the (religious) mind-locked devils; and whoever followed writings of the devil, thus certainly he gives commands that are about the vulgarity and the forbidden. And had it not been for a favour from the One upon you and His blessing, not would be emancipated from you even one forever, however the One emancipates whom He desires; and the One is hearing, well informed.

O ye who believe! Follow not the footsteps of the devil. Unto whomsoever followeth the footsteps of the devil, lo! he commandeth filthiness and wrong. Had it not been for the grace of Allah and His mercy unto you, not one of you would ever have grown pure. But Allah causeth whom He will to grow. And Allah is Hearer, Knower. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

O you who have faith! Do not follow in Satan]s steps. Whoever follows in Satan]s steps [should know that] he indeed prompts [you to commit] indecent and wrongful acts. Were it not for Allah]s grace and His mercy upon you, not one of you would ever become pure. But Allah purifies whomever He wishes, and Allah is all-hearing, all-knowing. - Qarai, Ali Quli

Believers, do not follow the footsteps of satan; whoever does so will be made by satan to commit indecency and sin. Were it not for the favor and mercy of God, none of you would ever have been purified. God purifies whomever He wants. God is All-hearing and All-knowing. - Sarwar, Muhammad

O you who believe! do not follow the footsteps of the Shaitan, and whoever follows the footsteps of the Shaitan, then surely he bids the doing of indecency and evil; and were it not for Allah's grace upon you and His mercy, not one of you would have ever been pure, but Allah purifies whom He pleases; and Allah is Hearing, Knowing. - Shakir, Habib

O you who believe, do not follow in the footsteps of Satan, and whoever follows in the footsteps of Satan should know that he enjoins only indecency and evil. But for the grace of God and His mercy upon you, not one of you would ever be purified; but God purifies whom He pleases. God is all hearing and all knowing. - Wahiduddin Khan

ایمان والو شیطان کے نقش قدم پر نہ چلنا کہ جو شیطان کے قدم بہ قدم چلے گا اسے شیطان ہر طرح کی برائی کا حکم دے گا اور اگر تم پر اللہ کا فضل اور اس کی رحمت نہ ہوتی تو تم میں کوئی بھی پاکباز نہ ہوتا لیکن اللہ جسے چاہتا ہے پاک و پاکیزہ بنادیتا ہے اور وہ ہر ایک کی سننے والا اور ہر ایک کے حال هه دل کا جاننے والا ہے - Jawadi, Zeeshan
