وَقَالُوا۟
And they say,
لَن
[Never shall
تَمَسَّنَا
touch us
ٱلنَّارُ
the fire
إِلَّآ
except
أَيَّامًۭا
days
مَّعْدُودَةًۭ
that are limited.]
ۚ
قُلْ
Say,
أَتَّخَذْتُمْ
[Have you taken
عِندَ
from
ٱللَّهِ
the One
عَهْدًۭا
a promise?
فَلَن
Because never
يُخْلِفَ
goes the other way
ٱللَّهُ
the One
عَهْدَهُۥٓ
(from) His promise.
ۖ
أَمْ
Or,
تَقُولُونَ
you are speaking
عَلَى
upon
ٱللَّهِ
the One
مَا
what
لَا
not
تَعْلَمُونَ
you know?]
٢
٨٠
وَقَالُوا۟ لَن تَمَسَّنَا ٱلنَّارُ إِلَّآ أَيَّامًۭا مَّعْدُودَةًۭ ۚ قُلْ أَتَّخَذْتُمْ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ عَهْدًۭا فَلَن يُخْلِفَ ٱللَّهُ عَهْدَهُۥٓ ۖ أَمْ تَقُولُونَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ And they say, [Never shall touch us the fire except days that are limited.] Say, [Have you taken from the One a promise? Because never goes the other way the One (from) His promise. Or, you are speaking upon the One what not you know?]

And they say: The Fire (of punishment) will not touch us save for a certain number of days. Say: Have ye received a covenant from Allah - truly Allah will not break His covenant - or tell ye concerning Allah that which ye know not? - Pickthall, Marmaduke

And they say, [The Fire shall not touch us except for a number of days.] Say, [Have you taken a promise from Allah? If so, Allah will never break His promise. Do you ascribe to Allah what you do not know?] - Qarai, Ali Quli
⦿
They have said, [Hell fire will never harm us except for just a few days.] (Muhammad), ask them, [Have you made such agreements with God Who never breaks any of His agreements or you just ascribe to Him that which you do not know? - Sarwar, Muhammad

And they say: Fire shall not touch us but for a few days. Say: Have you received a promise from Allah, then Allah will not fail to perform His promise, or do you speak against Allah what you do not know? - Shakir, Habib

They say, [The Fire is not going to touch us, and [even if it does], it will only be for a few days!] Say [to them], [Have you received a promise from God, for God never breaks His promise, or do you attribute something to God which you do not know?] - Wahiduddin Khan

یہ کہتے ہیں کہ ہمیں آتش جہّنم چند دن کے علاوہ چھو بھی نہیں سکتی. ان سے پوچھئے کہ کیا تم نے اللہ سے کوئی عہد لے لیا ہے جس کی وہ مخالفت نہیں کرسکتا یا اس کے خلاف جہالت کی باتیں کررہے ہو - Jawadi, Zeeshan

وہ کہتے ہیں کہ دوزخ کی آگ ہمیں ہرگز چھونے والی نہیں اِلّا یہ کہ چند روز کی سز ا مل جائے تو مل جائے اِن سے پوچھو، کیا تم نے اللہ سے کوئی عہد لے لیا ہے، جس کی خلاف ورزی وہ نہیں کرسکتا؟ یا بات یہ ہے کہ تم اللہ کے ذمے ڈال کر ایسی باتیں کہہ دیتے ہو جن کے متعلق تمہیں علم نہیں ہے کہ اُس نے ان کا ذمہ لیا ہے؟ آخر تمہیں دوزخ کی آگ کیوں نہ چھوئے گی؟ - Maududi, Abul A'ala

اور بولے ہمیں تو آگ نہ چھوئے گی مگر گنتی کے دن تم فرمادو کیا خدا سے تم نے کوئی عہد لے رکھا ہے جب تو اللہ ہرگز اپنا عہد خلاف نہ کرے گا یا خدا پر وہ بات کہتے ہو جس کا تمہیں علم نہیں - - Ahmed Raza

اور یہ لوگ کہتے ہیں کہ گنتی کے چند دنوں کے سوا دوزخ کی آگ ہمیں چھو بھی نہیں سکتی (اے رسول) آپ ان سے کہیے! کیا تم نے خدا سے کوئی عہد و پیمان لے لیا ہے کہ خدا کبھی اپنے عہد کی خلاف ورزی نہیں کرے گا؟ یا اللہ کے ذمہ وہ بات لگا رہے ہو جس کا تمہیں کوئی علم نہیں ہے۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

بَلَىٰ
Wretched is
مَن
that who
كَسَبَ
earned
سَيِّئَةًۭ
evil,
وَأَحَٰطَتْ
and surround
بِهِۦ
around him
خَطِيٓـَٔتُهُۥ
his crimes,
فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ
thus those are
أَصْحَٰبُ
companions of
ٱلنَّارِ
the fire;
ۖ
هُمْ
they
فِيهَا
therein
خَٰلِدُونَ
will be living.
٢
٨١
بَلَىٰ مَن كَسَبَ سَيِّئَةًۭ وَأَحَٰطَتْ بِهِۦ خَطِيٓـَٔتُهُۥ فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ أَصْحَٰبُ ٱلنَّارِ ۖ هُمْ فِيهَا خَٰلِدُونَ Wretched is that who earned evil, and surround around him his crimes, thus those are companions of the fire; they therein will be living.
⦿
Nay, but whosoever hath done evil and his sin surroundeth him; such are rightful owners of the Fire; they will abide therein. - Pickthall, Marmaduke
⦿
Certainly whoever commits misdeeds and is besieged by his iniquity—such shall be the inmates of the Fire, and they will remain in it [forever]. - Qarai, Ali Quli
⦿
There is no doubt that evil doers who are engulfed in sins are the companions of hell fire wherein they will live forever. - Sarwar, Muhammad

Yea! whoever earns evil and his sins beset him on every side, these are the inmates of the fire; in it they shall abide. - Shakir, Habib

Truly, those who do evil and are encompassed by their misdeeds, shall be the inmates of the Fire. Therein they shall abide forever, - Wahiduddin Khan

یقینا جس نے کوئی برائی حاصل کی اور اس کی غلطی نے اسے گھیر لیا وہ لوگ اہلِ جہّنم ہیں اور وہیں ہمیشہ رہنے والے ہیں - Jawadi, Zeeshan

جو بھی بدی کمائے گا اور اپنی خطا کاری کے چکر میں پڑا رہے گا، وہ دوزخی ہے او ر دوزخ ہی میں وہ ہمیشہ رہے گا - Maududi, Abul A'ala

ہاں کیوں نہیں جو گناہ کمائے اور اس کی خطا اسے گھیر لے وہ دوزخ والوں میں ہے انہیں ہمیشہ اس میں رہنا - - Ahmed Raza

وَٱلَّذِينَ
And the ones who
ءَامَنُوا۟
became trusted
وَعَمِلُوا۟
and did
ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ
the constructive things,
أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ
those are
أَصْحَٰبُ
companions of
ٱلْجَنَّةِ
the paradise,
ۖ
هُمْ
they
فِيهَا
therein
خَٰلِدُونَ
will be living.
٢
٨٢
وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ أَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْجَنَّةِ ۖ هُمْ فِيهَا خَٰلِدُونَ And the ones who became trusted and did the constructive things, those are companions of the paradise, they therein will be living.
⦿
And those who believe and do good works: such are rightful owners of the Garden. They will abide therein. - Pickthall, Marmaduke
⦿
And those who have faith and do righteous deeds—they shall be the inhabitants of paradise; they will remain in it [forever]. - Qarai, Ali Quli
⦿
As for the righteously striving believers, they will be among the people of Paradise wherein they will live forever. - Sarwar, Muhammad
⦿
And (as for) those who believe and do good deeds, these are the dwellers of the garden; in it they shall abide. - Shakir, Habib

but those who believe and do good works are the heirs of Paradise; there they shall abide forever. - Wahiduddin Khan

اور جو ایمان لائے اور انہوں نے نیک عمل کئے وہ اہل جنّت ہیں اور وہیں ہمیشہ رہنے والے ہیں - Jawadi, Zeeshan

وَإِذْ
And (recall) when
أَخَذْنَا
We took
مِيثَٰقَ
ratification of
بَنِىٓ
bani
إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ
Israel —
لَا
[Do not
تَعْبُدُونَ
be in obedience
إِلَّا
except of
ٱللَّهَ
the One,
وَبِٱلْوَٰلِدَيْنِ
and with the parents
إِحْسَانًۭا
have beautiful conduct,
وَذِى
also with
ٱلْقُرْبَىٰ
the close ones,
وَٱلْيَتَٰمَىٰ
and the orphans,
وَٱلْمَسَٰكِينِ
and the homeless,
وَقُولُوا۟
and speak
لِلنَّاسِ
to the people
حُسْنًۭا
beautifully,
وَأَقِيمُوا۟
and establish
ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ
the disciplined unity,
وَءَاتُوا۟
and bring forth
ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ
the emancipation],
ثُمَّ
— but then
تَوَلَّيْتُمْ
you turned around
إِلَّا
except
قَلِيلًۭا
a few
مِّنكُمْ
of you
وَأَنتُم
and you were
مُّعْرِضُونَ
apologetic.
٢
٨٣
وَإِذْ أَخَذْنَا مِيثَٰقَ بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ لَا تَعْبُدُونَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهَ وَبِٱلْوَٰلِدَيْنِ إِحْسَانًۭا وَذِى ٱلْقُرْبَىٰ وَٱلْيَتَٰمَىٰ وَٱلْمَسَٰكِينِ وَقُولُوا۟ لِلنَّاسِ حُسْنًۭا وَأَقِيمُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَءَاتُوا۟ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ ثُمَّ تَوَلَّيْتُمْ إِلَّا قَلِيلًۭا مِّنكُمْ وَأَنتُم مُّعْرِضُونَ And (recall) when We took ratification of bani Israel — [Do not be in obedience except of the One, and with the parents have beautiful conduct, also with the close ones, and the orphans, and the homeless, and speak to the people beautifully, and establish the disciplined unity, and bring forth the emancipation], — but then you turned around except a few of you and you were apologetic.

And (remember) when We made a covenant with the Children of Israel, (saying): Worship none save Allah (only), and be good to parents and to kindred and to orphans and the needy, and speak kindly to mankind; and establish worship and pay the poor-due. Then, after that, ye slid back, save a few of you, being averse. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

When We took a pledge from the Children of Israel, [saying]: [Worship no one but Allah, do good to your parents, relatives, orphans, and the needy, speak kindly to people, maintain the prayer, and give the zakat,] you turned away, except a few of you, and you were disregardful. - Qarai, Ali Quli

We made a covenant with the children of Israel that they should not worship anyone except Me, that they should serve their parents, relatives, orphans, and the destitute, that they should speak righteous words to people, and that they should be steadfast in their prayers and pay the religious tax. But soon after you made this covenant, all but a few of you broke it heedlessly. - Sarwar, Muhammad

And when We made a covenant with the children of Israel: You shall not serve any but Allah and (you shall do) good to (your) parents, and to the near of kin and to the orphans and the needy, and you shall speak to men good words and keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate. Then you turned back except a few of you and (now too) you turn aside. - Shakir, Habib

Remember when We made a covenant with the Children of Israel, [Worship none but God and be good to your parents and to relatives and orphans and the needy. And speak kindly to people. Attend to your prayers and pay the zakat [prescribed alms].] But with the exception of a few, you turned away [in aversion] and paid no heed. - Wahiduddin Khan

اس وقت کو یاد کرو جب ہم نے بنی اسرائیل سے عہد لیا کہ خبردار خدا کے علاوہ کسی کی عبادت نہ کرنا اور ماں باپً قرابتداروںً یتیموں اور مسکینوں کے ساتھ اچھا برتاؤ کرنا. لوگوں سے اچھی باتیں کرناً نماز قائم کرناًزکوِٰ ادا کرنا لیکن اس کے بعد تم میں سے چند کے علاوہ سب منحرف ہوگئے اور تم لوگ تو بس اعراض کرنے والے ہی ہو - Jawadi, Zeeshan

یاد کرو، اسرائیل کی اولاد سے ہم نے پختہ عہد لیا تھا کہ اللہ کے سوا کسی کی عبادت نہ کرنا، ماں باپ کے ساتھ، رشتے داروں کے ساتھ، یتیموں اور مسکینوں کے ساتھ نیک سلوک کرنا، لوگوں سے بھلی بات کہنا، نماز قائم کرنا اور زکوٰۃ دینا، مگر تھوڑے آدمیوں کے سو ا تم سب اس عہد سے پھر گئے اور اب تک پھر ے ہوئے ہو - Maududi, Abul A'ala

اور جب ہم نے بنی اسرائیل سے عہد لیا کہ اللہ کے سوا کسی کو نہ پوجو اور ماں باپ کے ساتھ بھلائی کرو، اور رشتہ داروں اور یتیموں اور مسکینوں سے اور لوگوں سے اچھی بات کہو اور نماز قائم رکھو اور زکوٰة دو پھر تم پھِر گئے مگر تم میں کے تھوڑے اور تم رد گردان ہو- - Ahmed Raza

اور (وہ وقت یاد کرو) جب ہم نے بنی اسرائیل سے یہ پختہ عہد لیا تھا کہ اللہ کے سوا کسی کی عبادت نہ کرنا۔ ماں باپ سے (خصوصاً) رشتہ داروں، یتیموں اور مسکینوں سے (عموماً) نیک سلوک کرنا اور سب سے اچھی بات کہنا، نماز قائم کرنا اور زکوٰۃ ادا کرنا۔ مگر تم میں سے تھوڑے آدمیوں کے سوا باقی سب اس (عہد) سے پھر گئے۔ اور تم ہو ہی روگردانی کرنے والے۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

And (remember) when
أَخَذْنَا
We took
مِيثَٰقَكُمْ
your agreement —
لَا
[Do not
تَسْفِكُونَ
you spill
دِمَآءَكُمْ
your blood,
وَلَا
and do not
تُخْرِجُونَ
you evict
أَنفُسَكُم
yourselves
مِّن
from
دِيَٰرِكُمْ
your circles.]
ثُمَّ
— then
أَقْرَرْتُمْ
you agreed
وَأَنتُمْ
while
تَشْهَدُونَ
you testified.
٢
٨٤
وَإِذْ أَخَذْنَا مِيثَٰقَكُمْ لَا تَسْفِكُونَ دِمَآءَكُمْ وَلَا تُخْرِجُونَ أَنفُسَكُم مِّن دِيَٰرِكُمْ ثُمَّ أَقْرَرْتُمْ وَأَنتُمْ تَشْهَدُونَ And (remember) when We took your agreement — [Do not you spill your blood, and do not you evict yourselves from your circles.] — then you agreed while you testified.
⦿
And when We made with you a covenant (saying): Shed not the blood of your people nor turn (a party of) your people out of your dwellings. Then ye ratified (Our covenant) and ye were witnesses (thereto). - Pickthall, Marmaduke

And when We took a pledge from you, [saying]: [You shall not shed your [own people]s] blood, and you shall not expel your folks from your homes,] you pledged, and you testify [to this pledge of your ancestors]. - Qarai, Ali Quli
⦿
We made a covenant with you that you should not shed each other's blood or expel each other from your homeland. You accepted and bore witness to this covenant, - Sarwar, Muhammad
⦿
And when We made a covenant with you: You shall not shed your blood and you shall not turn your people out of your cities; then you gave a promise while you witnessed. - Shakir, Habib
⦿
When We made a covenant with you, We said, [You shall not shed each other's blood, nor turn your people out of their homes.] You consented to this and bore witness. - Wahiduddin Khan

اور ہم نے تم سے عہد لیا کہ آپس میں ایک دوسرے کا خون نہ بہانا اور کسی کواپنے وطن سے نکال باہر نہ کرنا اور تم نے اس کا اقرار کیا اور تم خود ہی اس کے گواہ بھی ہو - Jawadi, Zeeshan

پھر ذرا یاد کرو، ہم نے تم سے مضبوط عہد لیا تھا کہ آپس میں ایک دوسرے کا خون نہ بہانا اور نہ ایک دوسرے کو گھر سے بے گھر کرنا تم نے اس کا اقرار کیا تھا، تم خود اس پر گواہ ہو - Maududi, Abul A'ala

اور جب ہم نے تم سے عہد لیا کہ اپنوں کا خون نہ کرنا اور اپنوں کو اپنی بستیوں سے نہ نکالنا پھر تم نے اس کا اقرار کیا اور تم گواہ ہو- - Ahmed Raza

اور (وہ وقت یاد کرو) جب ہم نے تم سے پختہ عہد لیا تھا کہ آپس میں ایک دوسرے کا خون نہ بہانا، ایک دوسرے کو اپنے وطن سے (نکال کر) بے وطن نہ کرنا۔ پھر تم نے اس کا اقرار کیا اور تم خود اس کے گواہ ہو۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

ثُمَّ
But,
أَنتُمْ
you were
هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ
of those who
تَقْتُلُونَ
killed
أَنفُسَكُمْ
yourselves,
وَتُخْرِجُونَ
and you were evicting
فَرِيقًۭا
a group
مِّنكُم
from you
مِّن
from
دِيَٰرِهِمْ
their homes,
تَظَٰهَرُونَ
pushing
عَلَيْهِم
on them
بِٱلْإِثْمِ
with injustice
وَٱلْعُدْوَٰنِ
and hatred,
وَإِن
and if
يَأْتُوكُمْ
they came to you
أُسَٰرَىٰ
as captives
تُفَٰدُوهُمْ
you made them pay ransom for freedom,
وَهُوَ
while was
مُحَرَّمٌ
forbidden
عَلَيْكُمْ
upon you
إِخْرَاجُهُمْ
their eviction.
ۚ
أَفَتُؤْمِنُونَ
So are you content
بِبَعْضِ
about some of
ٱلْكِتَٰبِ
the Book
وَتَكْفُرُونَ
and deny
بِبَعْضٍۢ
about some of it?
ۚ
فَمَا
So, what should be
جَزَآءُ
reward of
مَن
those who
يَفْعَلُ
do
ذَٰلِكَ
that (make the Book as if only some of it is implementable)
مِنكُمْ
from you,
إِلَّا
except
خِزْىٌۭ
humiliation
فِى
in
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ
the life of
ٱلدُّنْيَا
the World?
ۖ
وَيَوْمَ
And on day of
ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ
the establishment (of Allah's laws)
يُرَدُّونَ
they be repeated
إِلَىٰٓ
towards
أَشَدِّ
extremes of
ٱلْعَذَابِ
the torment?
ۗ
وَمَا
And not is,
ٱللَّهُ
the One,
بِغَٰفِلٍ
with an absent mind
عَمَّا
over what
تَعْمَلُونَ
you are doing.
٢
٨٥
ثُمَّ أَنتُمْ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ تَقْتُلُونَ أَنفُسَكُمْ وَتُخْرِجُونَ فَرِيقًۭا مِّنكُم مِّن دِيَٰرِهِمْ تَظَٰهَرُونَ عَلَيْهِم بِٱلْإِثْمِ وَٱلْعُدْوَٰنِ وَإِن يَأْتُوكُمْ أُسَٰرَىٰ تُفَٰدُوهُمْ وَهُوَ مُحَرَّمٌ عَلَيْكُمْ إِخْرَاجُهُمْ ۚ أَفَتُؤْمِنُونَ بِبَعْضِ ٱلْكِتَٰبِ وَتَكْفُرُونَ بِبَعْضٍۢ ۚ فَمَا جَزَآءُ مَن يَفْعَلُ ذَٰلِكَ مِنكُمْ إِلَّا خِزْىٌۭ فِى ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖ وَيَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ يُرَدُّونَ إِلَىٰٓ أَشَدِّ ٱلْعَذَابِ ۗ وَمَا ٱللَّهُ بِغَٰفِلٍ عَمَّا تَعْمَلُونَ But, you were of those who killed yourselves, and you were evicting a group from you from their homes, pushing on them with injustice and hatred, and if they came to you as captives you made them pay ransom for freedom, while was forbidden upon you their eviction. So are you content about some of the Book and deny about some of it? So, what should be reward of those who do that (make the Book as if only some of it is implementable) from you, except humiliation in the life of the World? And on day of the establishment (of Allah's laws) they be repeated towards extremes of the torment? And not is, the One, with an absent mind over what you are doing.

Yet ye it is who slay each other and drive out a party of your people from their homes, supporting one another against them by sin and transgression? - and if they came to you as captives ye would ransom them, whereas their expulsion was itself unlawful for you - Believe ye in part of the Scripture and disbelieve ye in part thereof? And what is the reward of those who do so save ignominy in the life of the world, and on the Day of Resurrection they will be consigned to the most grievous doom. For Allah is not unaware of what ye do. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Then there you were, killing your folks and expelling a part of your folks from their homes, backing one another against them in sin and aggression! And if they came to you as captives, you would ransom them, though their expulsion itself was forbidden you. What! Do you believe in part of the Book and deny another part? So what is the requital of those of you who do that except disgrace in the life of this world? And on the Day of Resurrection, they shall be consigned to the severest punishment. And Allah is not oblivious of what you do. - Qarai, Ali Quli

yet you murdered each other and forced a number of your people out of their homeland, helping each other to commit sin and to be hostile to one another. When you had expelled people from their homeland and later they had been made captives (of other people), you then paid their ransom (thinking that it was a righteous deed). God forbade you to expel these people in the first place. Do you believe in one part of the Book and not in the other? Those who behave in this way shall reap disgrace in this world and severe punishment on the Day of Resurrection. God is not unaware of things that you do. - Sarwar, Muhammad

لیکن اس کے بعد تم نے قتل و خون شروع کردیا. لوگوں کو علاقہ سے باہر نکالنے لگے اور گناہ وتعدی میں ظالموںکی مدد کرنے لگے حالانکہ کوئی قیدی بن کر آتا ہے تو فدیہ دے کر آزاد بھی کرالیتے ہو جبکہ شروع سے ان کا نکالنا ہی حرام تھا. کیا تم کتاب کے ایک حصّہ پر ایمان رکھتے ہو اور ایک کا انکار کردیتے ہو. ایسا کرنے والوں کی کیا سزاہے سوائے اس کے کہ زندگانی دنیا میں ذلیل ہوں اور قیامت کے دن سخت ترین عذاب کی طرف پلٹاد یئے جائیں گے . اور اللہ تمہارے کرتوت سے بے خبر نہیں ہے - Jawadi, Zeeshan

مگر آج وہی تم ہو کہ اپنے بھائی بندوں کو قتل کرتے ہو، اپنی برادری کے کچھ لوگوں کو بے خانماں کر دیتے ہو، ظلم و زیادتی کے ساتھ ان کے خلاف جتھے بندیاں کرتے ہو، اور جب وہ لڑائی میں پکڑے ہوئے تمہارے پاس آتے ہیں، تو ان کی رہائی کے لیے فدیہ کا لین دین کرتے ہو، حالانکہ انہیں ان کے گھروں سے نکالنا ہی سرے سے تم پر حرام تھا تو کیا تم کتاب کے ایک حصے پر ایمان لاتے ہو اور دوسرے حصے کے ساتھ کفر کرتے ہو پھر تم میں سے جو لوگ ایسا کریں، ان کی سزا اس کے سوا اور کیا ہے کہ دنیا کی زندگی میں ذلیل و خوار ہو کر رہیں اور آخرت میں شدید ترین عذاب کی طرف پھیر دیے جائیں؟ اللہ ان حرکات سے بے خبر نہیں ہے، جو تم کر رہے ہو - Maududi, Abul A'ala

پھر یہ جو تم ہو اپنوں کو قتل کرنے لگے اور اپنے میں سے ایک گروہ کو ان کے وطن سے نکالتے ہو ان پر مدد دیتے ہو (ان کے مخالف کو) گناہ اور زیادتی میں اور اگر وہ قیدی ہو کر تمہارے پاس آئیں تو بدلا دے کر چھڑا لیتے ہو اور ان کا نکالنا تم پر حرام ہے تو کیا خدا کے کچھ حکموں پر ایمان لاتے ہو اور کچھ سے انکار کرتے ہو تو جو تم میں ایسا کرے اس کا بدلہ کیا ہے مگر یہ کہ دنیا میں رسوا ہو اور قیامت میں سخت تر عذاب کی طرف پھیرے جائیں گے اور اللہ تمہارے کوتکوں سے بے خبر نہیں - - Ahmed Raza

پھر تم ہی وہ ہو۔ جو اپنوں کو قتل کرتے ہو۔ اور اپنے بھائی بندوں کے کچھ لوگوں کو ان کے وطن سے نکال بھی دیتے ہو اور ان کے خلاف گناہ اور ظلم و زیادتی کے ساتھ سازش کرتے ہو اور جتھے بندی کرتے ہو (ان کے مخالفین کی مدد کرتے ہو) اور (پھر لطف یہ ہے کہ) اگر وہی لوگ دشمنوں کے ہاتھوں قید ہو کر تمہارے پاس آجائیں۔ تو تم ہی فدیہ دے کر انہیں چھڑا لیتے ہو۔ حالانکہ ان کا وطن سے نکالنا تم پر حرام تھا۔ کیا تم کتاب (توراۃ) کے ایک حصہ (فدیہ دینے) پر ایمان لاتے ہو۔ اور دوسرے حصہ (جلا وطن کرنے کی حرمت) کا انکار کرتے ہو؟ تم میں سے جو ایسا کرے اس کی سزا اس کے سوا اور کیا ہے کہ دنیا کی زندگی میں ذلیل و خوار ہو اور قیامت کے دن سخت ترین عذاب کی طرف لوٹا دیئے جائیں اور تم جو کچھ بھی کرتے ہو اللہ اس سے غافل (بے خبر) نہیں ہے۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

ٱلدُّنْيَا
the World
بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ
with the forthcoming.
ۖ
فَلَا
Thus not
يُخَفَّفُ
it will be made easy
عَنْهُمُ
upon them
ٱلْعَذَابُ
the punishment,
وَلَا
and not
هُمْ
they are
يُنصَرُونَ
winners.
٢
٨٦
أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱشْتَرَوُا۟ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ ۖ فَلَا يُخَفَّفُ عَنْهُمُ ٱلْعَذَابُ وَلَا هُمْ يُنصَرُونَ Those are the ones who exchange the life of the World with the forthcoming. Thus not it will be made easy upon them the punishment, and not they are winners.

Such are those who buy the life of the world at the price of the Hereafter. Their punishment will not be lightened, neither will they have support. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

And certainly
ءَاتَيْنَا
We gave to
مُوسَى
Moosa
ٱلْكِتَٰبَ
the Book,
وَقَفَّيْنَا
and We followed-up
مِنۢ
from
بَعْدِهِۦ
after him
بِٱلرُّسُلِ
with the messengers.
ۖ
وَءَاتَيْنَا
And We gave
عِيسَى
Essa,
ٱبْنَ
son of
مَرْيَمَ
Maryam,
ٱلْبَيِّنَٰتِ
the clarifications,
وَأَيَّدْنَٰهُ
and strengthened him
بِرُوحِ
with spirit of
ٱلْقُدُسِ
the dedication.
ۗ
أَفَكُلَّمَا
Is it not, that whenever
جَآءَكُمْ
came to you
رَسُولٌۢ
a messenger,
بِمَا
with what
لَا
not
تَهْوَىٰٓ
desired
أَنفُسُكُمُ
your egos,
ٱسْتَكْبَرْتُمْ
you became contemptuous?
فَفَرِيقًۭا
A group
كَذَّبْتُمْ
you denied
وَفَرِيقًۭا
and a group
تَقْتُلُونَ
you murdered.
٢
٨٧
وَلَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَا مُوسَى ٱلْكِتَٰبَ وَقَفَّيْنَا مِنۢ بَعْدِهِۦ بِٱلرُّسُلِ ۖ وَءَاتَيْنَا عِيسَى ٱبْنَ مَرْيَمَ ٱلْبَيِّنَٰتِ وَأَيَّدْنَٰهُ بِرُوحِ ٱلْقُدُسِ ۗ أَفَكُلَّمَا جَآءَكُمْ رَسُولٌۢ بِمَا لَا تَهْوَىٰٓ أَنفُسُكُمُ ٱسْتَكْبَرْتُمْ فَفَرِيقًۭا كَذَّبْتُمْ وَفَرِيقًۭا تَقْتُلُونَ And certainly We gave to Moosa the Book, and We followed-up from after him with the messengers. And We gave Essa, son of Maryam, the clarifications, and strengthened him with spirit of the dedication. Is it not, that whenever came to you a messenger, with what not desired your egos, you became contemptuous? A group you denied and a group you murdered.

And verily We gave unto Moses the Scripture and We caused a train of messengers to follow after him, and We gave unto Jesus, son of Mary, clear proofs (of Allah's sovereignty), and We supported him with the Holy spirit. Is it ever so, that, when there cometh unto you a messenger (from Allah) with that which ye yourselves desire not, ye grow arrogant, and some ye disbelieve and some ye slay? - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Certainly, We gave Moses the Book and followed him with the apostles, and We gave Jesus, the son of Mary, manifest proofs and confirmed him with the Holy Spirit. Is it not that whenever an apostle brought you that which was not to your liking, you would act arrogantly; so you would impugn a group [of them], and slay a[nother] group? - Qarai, Ali Quli

We gave the Book to Moses and made the Messengers follow in his path. To Jesus, the son of Mary, We gave the miracles and supported him by the Holy Spirit. Why do you arrogantly belie some Messengers and murder others whenever they have brought you messages that you dislike? - Sarwar, Muhammad

And most certainly We gave Musa the Book and We sent apostles after him one after another; and We gave Isa, the son of Marium, clear arguments and strengthened him with the holy spirit, What! whenever then an apostle came to you with that which your souls did not desire, you were insolent so you called some liars and some you slew. - Shakir, Habib

To Moses We gave the Book and sent a succession of messengers after him. We gave Jesus, son of Mary, clear signs and strengthened him with the Holy Spirit. But, whenever a messenger came to you with something which you did not desire, you grew arrogant, calling some liars and slaying others. - Wahiduddin Khan

ہم نے موسٰی علیھ السّلام کو کتاب دی ان کے پیچھے رسولوںکا سلسلہ قائم کیا. عیسٰی علیھ السّلام بن مریم کو واضح معجزات عطا کئےً روح القدس سے ان کی تائید کرادی لیکن کیا تمہارا مستقل طریقہ یہی ہے کہ جب کوئی رسول علیھ السّلام تمہاری خواہش کے خلاف کوئی پیغام لے کر آتا ہے تو اکڑ جاتے ہو اور ایک جماعت کو جھٹلا دیتے ہو اور ایک کو قتل کردیتے ہو - Jawadi, Zeeshan

ہم نے موسیٰؑ کو کتاب دی، اس کے بعد پے در پے رسول بھیجے، آخر کار عیسیٰؑ ابن مریمؑ کو روشن نشانیاں دے کر بھیجا اور روح پاک سے اس کی مدد کی پھر یہ تمہارا کیا ڈھنگ ہے کہ جب بھی کوئی رسول تمہاری خواہشات نفس کے خلاف کوئی چیز لے کر تمہارے پاس آیا، تو تم نے اس کے مقابلے میں سرکشی ہی کی، کسی کو جھٹلایا اور کسی کو قتل کر ڈالا - Maududi, Abul A'ala

اور بے شک ہم نے موسیٰ کو کتاب عطا کی اور اس کے بعد پے در پے رسول بھیجے اور ہم نے عیسیٰ بن مریم کو کھیلی نشانیاں عطا فرمائیں اور پاک روح سے اس کی مدد کی تو کیا جب تمہارے پاس کوئی رسول وہ لے کر آئے جو تمہارے نفس کی خواہش نہیں تکبر کرتے ہو تو ان (انبیاء) میں ایک گروہ کو تم جھٹلاتے ہو اور ایک گروہ کو شہید کرتے ہو - - Ahmed Raza

البتہ ہم نے موسیٰ کو کتاب (توراۃ) عطا کی۔ اور ان کے بعد ہم نے پے در پے رسول بھیجے اور عیسیٰ بن مریم کو کھلی نشانیاں عطا کیں اور روح القدس کے ذریعہ سے ان کی تائید کی۔ (اس کے باوجود جب بھی کوئی رسول تمہاری خواہشات نفسی کے خلاف کوئی حکم لے کر تمہارے پاس آیا تو تم نے تکبر کیا سو بعض کو جھٹلایا اور بعض کو قتل کر ڈالا۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

وَقَالُوا۟
And they say,
قُلُوبُنَا
[Our hearts are
غُلْفٌۢ
protected].
ۚ
بَل
No!
لَّعَنَهُمُ
Has cursed them
ٱللَّهُ
the One
بِكُفْرِهِمْ
due to their denial,
فَقَلِيلًۭا
so little is
مَّا
what
يُؤْمِنُونَ
they are sure about!
٢
٨٨
وَقَالُوا۟ قُلُوبُنَا غُلْفٌۢ ۚ بَل لَّعَنَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِكُفْرِهِمْ فَقَلِيلًۭا مَّا يُؤْمِنُونَ And they say, [Our hearts are protected]. No! Has cursed them the One due to their denial, so little is what they are sure about!

And they say: Our hearts are hardened. Nay, but Allah hath cursed them for their unbelief. Little is that which they believe. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

And they say, [Our hearts are uncircumcised.] Rather, Allah has cursed them for their unfaith, so few of them have faith. - Qarai, Ali Quli

They have said that their hearts cannot understand (what you, Muhammad, say). God has condemned them for their denial of the Truth. There are a very few of them who have faith. - Sarwar, Muhammad

And they say: Our hearts are covered. Nay, Allah has cursed them on account of their unbelief; so little it is that they believe. - Shakir, Habib

They say, [Our hearts are impenetrably wrapped [against whatever you say],] but God has rejected them for their denial; they have but little faith. - Wahiduddin Khan

اور یہ لوگ کہتے ہیں کہ ہمارے دلوں پر پردے پڑے ہوئے ہیں ہماری کچھ سمجھ میں نہیں آتا بے شک ان کے کفر کی بنا پر ان پر خدا کی مار ہے اور یہ بہت کم ایمان لے آئیں گے - Jawadi, Zeeshan

وہ کہتے ہیں، ہمارے دل محفوظ ہیں نہیں، اصل بات یہ ہے کہ ان کے کفر کی وجہ سے ان پر اللہ کی پھٹکار پڑی ہے، اس لیے وہ کم ہی ایمان لاتے ہیں - Maududi, Abul A'ala

اور یہودی بولے ہمارے دلوں پر پردے پڑے ہیں بلکہ اللہ نے ان پر لعنت کی ان کے کفر کے سبب تو ان میں تھوڑے ایمان لاتے ہیں- - Ahmed Raza

And when
جَآءَهُمْ
came to them
كِتَٰبٌۭ
a book
مِّنْ
from
عِندِ
nearing
ٱللَّهِ
the One
مُصَدِّقٌۭ
— a confirmation
لِّمَا
for whatever is
مَعَهُمْ
with them —
وَكَانُوا۟
while they were
مِن
from
قَبْلُ
before
يَسْتَفْتِحُونَ
asking for victory
عَلَى
over
ٱلَّذِينَ
the ones who
كَفَرُوا۟
are in denial
فَلَمَّا
— then when
جَآءَهُم
came to them
مَّا
what
عَرَفُوا۟
they recognized,
كَفَرُوا۟
they denied
بِهِۦ
about it.
ۚ
فَلَعْنَةُ
Thus curse of
ٱللَّهِ
the One
عَلَى
on
ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ
the denying people.
٢
٨٩
وَلَمَّا جَآءَهُمْ كِتَٰبٌۭ مِّنْ عِندِ ٱللَّهِ مُصَدِّقٌۭ لِّمَا مَعَهُمْ وَكَانُوا۟ مِن قَبْلُ يَسْتَفْتِحُونَ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ فَلَمَّا جَآءَهُم مَّا عَرَفُوا۟ كَفَرُوا۟ بِهِۦ ۚ فَلَعْنَةُ ٱللَّهِ عَلَى ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ And when came to them a book from nearing the One — a confirmation for whatever is with them — while they were from before asking for victory over the ones who are in denial — then when came to them what they recognized, they denied about it. Thus curse of the One on the denying people.

And when there cometh unto them a scripture from Allah, confirming that in their possession - though before that they were asking for a signal triumph over those who disbelieved - and when there cometh unto them that which they know (to be the truth) they disbelieve therein. The curse of Allah is on disbelievers. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

And when there came to them a Book from Allah, confirming that which is with them—and earlier they would pray for victory over the pagans—so when there came to them what they recognized, they denied it. So may the curse of Allah be on the faithless! - Qarai, Ali Quli

When a Book came to them from God which confirms what is with them (the fact of truthfulness of the Prophet Muhammad in their Scripture), and, despite the fact that they had been praying for victory over the disbelievers (by the help of the truthful Prophet), they refuse to accept this book, even though they know it (to be the Truth). May God condemn those who hide the Truth! - Sarwar, Muhammad

And when there came to them a Book from Allah verifying that which they have, and aforetime they used to pray for victory against those who disbelieve, but when there came to them (Prophet) that which they did not recognize, they disbelieved in him; so Allah's curse is on the unbelievers. - Shakir, Habib

And now that a Book has come to them from God, fulfilling that [predictions about the final prophet in their scriptures] which is with them, they deny it, whereas previously they used to pray for victory against the disbelievers, yet when there came to them that which they recognized as the truth, they rejected it. اور جب ان کے پاس خدا کی طرف سے کتاب آئی ہے جو ان کی توریت وغیرہ کی تصدیق بھی کرنے والی ہے اور اس کے پہلے وہ دشمنوںکے مقابلہ میں اسی کے ذریعہ طلب فتح بھی کرتے تھے لیکن اس کے آتے ہی منکر ہوگئے حالانکہ اسے پہچانتے بھی تھے تو اب کافروں پر خدا کی لعنت ہے - Jawadi, Zeeshan

اور اب جو ایک کتاب اللہ کی طرف سے ان کے پاس آئی ہے، اس کے ساتھ ان کا کیا برتاؤ ہے؟ باوجود یہ کہ وہ اس کتاب کی تصدیق کرتی ہے جو ان کے پاس پہلے سے موجو د تھی، باوجود یہ کہ اس کی آمد سے پہلے وہ خود کفار کے مقابلے میں فتح و نصرت کی دعائیں مانگا کرتے تھے، مگر جب وہ چیز آ گئی، جسے وہ پہچان بھی گئے تو، انہوں نے اسے ماننے سے انکار کر دیا خدا کی لعنت اِن منکرین پر - Maududi, Abul A'ala

اور جب ان کے پاس اللہ کی وہ کتاب (قرآن) آئی جو ان کے ساتھ والی کتاب (توریت) کی تصدیق فرماتی ہے اور اس سے پہلے وہ اسی نبی کے وسیلہ سے کافروں پر فتح مانگتے تھے تو جب تشریف لایا انکے پاس وہ جانا پہچانا اس سے منکر ہو بیٹھے تو اللہ کی لعنت منکروں پر - - Ahmed Raza

اور جب ان کے پاس اللہ کی طرف سے وہ کتاب آئی جو ان کے پاس والی کتاب (توراۃ) کی تصدیق کرتی ہے باوجودیکہ اس کے آنے سے پہلے خود یہ لوگ کافروں کے خلاف اس کے ذریعہ سے فتح و ظفر طلب کیا کرتے تھے۔ مگر جب وہ (کتاب) ان کے پاس آگئی جسے وہ پہچانتے تھے تو اس کا انکار کر دیا۔ پس کافروں (منکروں) پر اللہ کی لعنت ہو۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

بِئْسَمَا
Evil is what
ٱشْتَرَوْا۟
they purchased
بِهِۦٓ
through it
أَنفُسَهُمْ
by themselves,
أَن
that
يَكْفُرُوا۟
they deny
بِمَآ
with what has
أَنزَلَ
descended
ٱللَّهُ
the One,
بَغْيًا
revolting
أَن
that
يُنَزِّلَ
establishes
ٱللَّهُ
the One
مِن
from
فَضْلِهِۦ
His grace,
عَلَىٰ
upon
مَن
those whom
يَشَآءُ
He desires
مِنْ
from
عِبَادِهِۦ
His servants.
ۖ
فَبَآءُو
Thus, in repetition
بِغَضَبٍ
with punishment
عَلَىٰ
over
غَضَبٍۢ
punishment;
ۚ
وَلِلْكَٰفِرِينَ
and for the deniers
عَذَابٌۭ
a punishment
مُّهِينٌۭ
of humiliation.

٩٠
بِئْسَمَا ٱشْتَرَوْا۟ بِهِۦٓ أَنفُسَهُمْ أَن يَكْفُرُوا۟ بِمَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ بَغْيًا أَن يُنَزِّلَ ٱللَّهُ مِن فَضْلِهِۦ عَلَىٰ مَن يَشَآءُ مِنْ عِبَادِهِۦ ۖ فَبَآءُو بِغَضَبٍ عَلَىٰ غَضَبٍۢ ۚ وَلِلْكَٰفِرِينَ عَذَابٌۭ مُّهِينٌۭ Evil is what they purchased through it by themselves, that they deny with what has descended the One, revolting that establishes the One from His grace, upon those whom He desires from His servants. Thus, in repetition with punishment over punishment; and for the deniers a punishment of humiliation.

Evil is that for which they sell their souls: that they should disbelieve in that which Allah hath revealed, grudging that Allah should reveal of His bounty unto whom He will of His slaves. They have incurred anger upon anger. For disbelievers is a shameful doom. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Evil is that for which they have sold their souls, by defying what Allah has sent down, out of envy that Allah should bestow His grace on any of His servants that He wishes. Thus, they earned wrath upon wrath, and there is a humiliating punishment for the faithless. - Qarai, Ali Quli

Evil is that for which they have sold their souls: They have refused to accept God's revelations in rebellion against the servant of God whom He has, by His Grace, chosen to grant His message. They have brought upon themselves God's wrath in addition to the wrath that they had incurred upon themselves for their previous sins. The disbelievers will suffer a humiliating torment. - Sarwar, Muhammad

Evil is that for which they have sold their souls-- that they should deny what Allah has revealed, out of envy that Allah should send down of His grace on whomsoever of His servants He pleases; so they have made themselves deserving of wrath upon wrath, and there is a disgraceful punishment for the unbelievers. - Shakir, Habib

ان لوگوں نے اپنے نفس کا کتنا برا سودا کیا ہے کہ زبردستی خدا کے نازل کئے کا انکار کر بیٹھے اس ضد میں کہ خدا اپنے فضل و کر م سے اپنے جس بندے پر جو چاہے نازل کردیتا ہے. اب یہ غضب بالائے غضب کے حقدار ہیں اور ان کے لئے رسوا کن عذاب بھی ہے - Jawadi, Zeeshan

کیسا برا ذریعہ ہے جس سے یہ اپنے نفس کی تسلی حاصل کرتے ہیں کہ جو ہدایت اللہ نے نازل کی ہے، اس کو قبول کرنے سے صرف اِس ضد کی بنا پر انکار کر رہے ہیں کہ اللہ نے اپنے فضل (وحی و رسالت) سے اپنے جس بندے کو خود چاہا، نواز دیا! لہٰذا اب یہ غضب بالائے غضب کے مستحق ہوگئے ہیں اور ایسے کافروں کے لیے سخت آمیز سزا مقرر ہے - Maududi, Abul A'ala

کس برے مولوں انہوں نے اپنی جانوں کو خریدا کہ اللہ کے اتارے سے منکر ہوں اس کی جلن سے کہ اللہ اپنے فضل سے اپنے جس بندے پر چاہے وحی اتارلے تو غضب پر غضب کے سزاوار ہوئے اور کافروں کے لیے ذلت کا عذاب ہے - - Ahmed Raza

سو کس قدر بری ہے وہ چیز جس کے عوض ان لوگوں نے اپنی جانوں کا سودا کیا ہے کہ محض اس ضد اور سرکشی کی بناء پر اللہ کی نازل کردہ کتاب کا انکار کر دیا کہ اس نے اپنے بندوں میں سے ایک خاص بندہ (نبی خاتم (ع)) پر اپنے فضل و کرم سے کیوں (وحی نبوت و کتاب) نازل کر دی؟ پس وہ اس روش کے نتیجہ میں (خدا کے) غضب بالائے غضب کے سزاوار ہوئے اور کافروں کے لئے ذلت آمیز عذاب ہے۔ - Najafi, Muhammad
