لَّا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْكُمْ إِن طَلَّقْتُمُ ٱلنِّسَآءَ مَا لَمْ تَمَسُّوهُنَّ أَوْ تَفْرِضُوا۟ لَهُنَّ فَرِيضَةًۭ ۚ وَمَتِّعُوهُنَّ عَلَى ٱلْمُوسِعِ قَدَرُهُۥ وَعَلَى ٱلْمُقْتِرِ قَدَرُهُۥ مَتَٰعًۢا بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ ۖ حَقًّا عَلَى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ

It is no sin for you if ye divorce women while yet ye have not touched them, nor appointed unto them a portion. Provide for them, the rich according to his means, and the straitened according to his means, a fair provision. (This is) a bounden duty for those who do good.

There is no sin upon you if you divorce women while you have not yet touched them or settled a dowry for them. Yet provide for them—the well-off according to his capacity, and the poorly-off according to his capacity—with a sustenance that is honourable, an obligation on the virtuous.

اگر تم (اپنی) عورتوں کو ہاتھ لگانے (خلوت صحیحہ کرنے) اور حق مہر مقرر کرنے سے پہلے ہی طلاق دے دو تو اس میں تم پر کوئی گناہ نہیں ہے ہاں البتہ (بطور خرچہ) انہیں کچھ مال و متاع دے دو۔ مالدار اپنی حیثیت کے مطابق اور غریب و نادار اپنے مقدور کے موافق مناسب متاع (خرچہ) دے۔ یہ نیکوکار لوگوں کے ذمہ ایک حق ہے۔

وَإِن طَلَّقْتُمُوهُنَّ مِن قَبْلِ أَن تَمَسُّوهُنَّ وَقَدْ فَرَضْتُمْ لَهُنَّ فَرِيضَةًۭ فَنِصْفُ مَا فَرَضْتُمْ إِلَّآ أَن يَعْفُونَ أَوْ يَعْفُوَا۟ ٱلَّذِى بِيَدِهِۦ عُقْدَةُ ٱلنِّكَاحِ ۚ وَأَن تَعْفُوٓا۟ أَقْرَبُ لِلتَّقْوَىٰ ۚ وَلَا تَنسَوُا۟ ٱلْفَضْلَ بَيْنَكُمْ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ بَصِيرٌ

If ye divorce them before ye have touched them and ye have appointed unto them a portion, then (pay the) half of that which ye appointed, unless they (the women) agree to forgo it, or he agreeth to forgo it in whose hand is the marriage tie. To forgo is nearer to piety. And forget not kindness among yourselves. Allah is Seer of what ye do.

And if you divorce them before you touch them, and you have already settled a dowry for them, then [pay them] half of what you have settled, unless they forgo it, or someone in whose hand is the marriage tie forgoes it. And to forgo is nearer to Godwariness; so do not forget graciousness among yourselves. Indeed Allah watches what you do.

If you divorce your wives before the consummation of the marriage and the amount of dowry has been fixed, pay your wives half of the amount of their dowry unless she or her guardians drop their demand for payment. To drop such a demand is closer to piety. Be generous to each other. God is Well-Aware of what you do.

And if you divorce them before you have touched them and you have appointed for them a portion, then (pay to them) half of what you have appointed, unless they relinquish or he should relinquish in whose hand is the marriage tie; and it is nearer to righteousness that you should relinquish; and do not neglect the giving of free gifts between you; surely Allah sees what you do.

If you divorce them before the marriage is consummated, but after their dower money has been settled, give them the half of their dower money, unless they [the women] agree to forego it, or the man [the husband] in whose hand lies the marriage knot foregoes it. To forego is nearer to righteousness. Do not neglect any chance of behaving benevolently towards each other. God is observant of whatever you do.

اور اگر تم نے ان کو چھونے سے پہلے طلاق دے دی اور ان کے لئے مہر معین کر چکے تھے تو معین مہر کا نصف دینا ہوگا مگر یہ کہ وہ خود معاف کردیں یا ان کا ولی معاف کر دے اور معاف کردینا تقویٰ سے زیادہ قریب تر ہے اور آپس میں بزرگی کو فراموش نہ کرو. خدا تمہارے اعمال کو خوب دیکھ رہا ہے

اور اگر تم نے ہاتھ لگانے سے پہلے طلاق دی ہے، لیکن مہر مقرر کیا جا چکا ہو، تو اس صورت میں نصف مہر دینا ہوگا یہ اور بات ہے کہ عورت نرمی برتے (اور مہر نہ لے) یا وہ مرد، جس کے اختیار میں عقد نکاح ہے، نرمی سے کام لے (اور پورا مہر دیدے)، اور تم (یعنی مرد) نرمی سے کام لو، تو یہ تقویٰ سے زیادہ مناسبت رکھتا ہے آپس کے معاملات میں فیاضی کو نہ بھولو تمہارے اعمال کو اللہ دیکھ رہا ہے

اور اگر تم نے عورتوں کو بے چھوئے طلاق دے دی اور ان کے لئے کچھ مہر مقرر کرچکے تھے تو جتنا ٹھہرا تھا اس کا آدھا واجب ہے مگر یہ کہ عورتیں کچھ چھوڑدیں یا وہ زیاد ه دے جس کے ہاتھ میں نکاح کی گرہ ہے اور اے مرَدو تمہارا زیادہ دینا پرہیزگاری سے نزدیک تر ہے اور آپس میں ایک دوسرے پر احسان کو بُھلا نہ دو بیشک اللہ تمہارے کام دیکھ رہا ہے

اور اگر تم عورتوں کو ہاتھ لگانے سے پہلے طلاق دے دو۔ لیکن تم ان کا کچھ حق مہر معین کر چکے ہو۔ تو (اس صورت میں) اس مقررہ حق مہر کا آدھا لازم ہوگا۔ مگر یہ کہ وہ (عورتیں) خود معاف کر دیں یا وہ (ولی) معاف کر دے جس کے ہاتھ میں نکاح کا معاملہ ہے۔ اور اگر تم درگزر کرو (معاف کر دو) تو یہ پرہیزگاری کے زیادہ قریب ہے۔ اور باہمی معاملات میں احسان اور بھلائی کو نہ بھولو۔ بے شک تم جو کچھ کر رہے ہو خدا اسے خوب دیکھ رہا ہے۔

Be guardians of your prayers, and of the midmost prayer, and stand up with devotion to Allah.

And if ye go in fear, then (pray) standing or on horseback. And when ye are again in safety, remember Allah, as He hath taught you that which (heretofore) ye knew not.

وَٱلَّذِينَ يُتَوَفَّوْنَ مِنكُمْ وَيَذَرُونَ أَزْوَٰجًۭا وَصِيَّةًۭ لِّأَزْوَٰجِهِم مَّتَٰعًا إِلَى ٱلْحَوْلِ غَيْرَ إِخْرَاجٍۢ ۚ فَإِنْ خَرَجْنَ فَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْكُمْ فِى مَا فَعَلْنَ فِىٓ أَنفُسِهِنَّ مِن مَّعْرُوفٍۢ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَزِيزٌ حَكِيمٌۭ

(In the case of) those of you who are about to die and leave behind them wives, they should bequeath unto their wives a provision for the year without turning them out, but if they go out (of their own accord) there is no sin for you in that which they do of themselves within their rights. Allah is Mighty, Wise.

And for the one who is being left,
مَتَٰعٌۢ
amenities
بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ
with definite articulation;

حَقًّا
a responsibility
عَلَى
upon
ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ
the aware ones.

٢٤١
وَلِلْمُطَلَّقَٰتِ مَتَٰعٌۢ بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ ۖ حَقًّا عَلَى ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ
And for the one who is being left, amenities with definite articulation; a responsibility upon the aware ones.

For divorced women a provision in kindness: a duty for those who ward off (evil).

that perhaps you
تَعْقِلُونَ
may use reason.

٢٤٢
كَذَٰلِكَ يُبَيِّنُ ٱللَّهُ لَكُمْ ءَايَٰتِهِۦ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَعْقِلُونَ
That is how makes clear the One for you His signs that perhaps you may use reason.

Thus Allah expoundeth unto you His revelations so that ye may understand.

حَذَرَ
fearing
ٱلْمَوْتِ
the death,
فَقَالَ
thus said
لَهُمُ
to them
ٱللَّهُ
the One
مُوتُوا۟
[Be dead],
ثُمَّ
then
أَحْيَٰهُمْ
gave them life?
ۚ
إِنَّ
Surely
ٱللَّهَ
the One
لَذُو
is possessor of
فَضْلٍ
favour
عَلَى
upon
ٱلنَّاسِ
the people,
وَلَٰكِنَّ
however
أَكْثَرَ
many of
ٱلنَّاسِ
the people
لَا
not
يَشْكُرُونَ
are thankful.

٢٤٣
أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى ٱلَّذِينَ خَرَجُوا۟ مِن دِيَٰرِهِمْ وَهُمْ أُلُوفٌ حَذَرَ ٱلْمَوْتِ فَقَالَ لَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ مُوتُوا۟ ثُمَّ أَحْيَٰهُمْ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَذُو فَضْلٍ عَلَى ٱلنَّاسِ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا يَشْكُرُونَ
Do not you see at the ones who went out from their homes, and they were huddled together fearing the death, thus said to them the One [Be dead], then gave them life? Surely the One is possessor of favour upon the people, however many of the people not are thankful.

Bethink thee (O Muhammad) of those of old, who went forth from their habitations in their thousands, fearing death, and Allah said unto them: Die; and then He brought them back to life. Lo! Allah is a Lord of Kindness to mankind, but most of mankind give not thanks.

Have you not regarded those who left their homes in thousands, apprehensive of death, whereupon Allah said to them, [Die,] then He revived them? Indeed Allah is gracious to mankind, but most people do not give thanks.

عَلِيمٌۭ
well informed.

وَقَٰتِلُوا۟ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌۭ
And fight in way of the One, and know that the One is hearing, well informed.

Fight in the way of Allah, and know that Allah is Hearer, Knower.

لَهُۥٓ
for him
أَضْعَافًۭا
doubled,
كَثِيرَةًۭ
multiplied?
ۚ
وَٱللَّهُ
And the One
يَقْبِضُ
seizes,
وَيَبْصُۜطُ
and He extends,
وَإِلَيْهِ
and towards Him
تُرْجَعُونَ
you will return.

٢٤٥
مَّن ذَا ٱلَّذِى يُقْرِضُ ٱللَّهَ قَرْضًا حَسَنًۭا فَيُضَٰعِفَهُۥ لَهُۥٓ أَضْعَافًۭا كَثِيرَةًۭ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ يَقْبِضُ وَيَبْصُۜطُ وَإِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ
Who is that person who would loan the One, a loan that is beautiful thus He makes it for him doubled, multiplied? And the One seizes, and He extends, and towards Him you will return.

Who is it that will lend unto Allah a goodly loan, so that He may give it increase manifold? Allah straiteneth and enlargeth. Unto Him ye will return.

Who is it that will lend Allah a good loan that He may multiply it for him severalfold? Allah tightens and expands [the means of life], and to Him you shall be brought back.

One who generously lends to God will be paid back in many multiples of the loan. It is God who reduces and expands things and to Him you will all return.

ہے کوئی ایسا جو خدا کو قرض حسنہ دے تاکہ خدا اسے کئی گُنا کرکے واپس کرے۔ خدا ہی تنگی کرتا ہے اور وہی کشادگی دیتا ہے۔ اور (تم سب) اسی کی طرف پلٹائے جاؤگے۔

the Mullahs

Israel
مِنۢ

بَعْدِ
after
مُوسَىٰٓ
Moosa,
إِذْ
when
قَالُوا۟
they said
لِنَبِىٍّۢ
to a leader
لَّهُمُ
of theirs,
ٱبْعَثْ
[Charge
لَنَا
for us
مَلِكًۭا
a king,
نُّقَٰتِلْ
we will fight
فِى
in
سَبِيلِ
way of
ٱللَّهِ
the One.]
ۖ
قَالَ
The leader replied,
هَلْ
[Is it
عَسَيْتُمْ
suitable to you
إِن
that
كُتِبَ
ordained
عَلَيْكُمُ
upon you is
ٱلْقِتَالُ
the fight,
أَلَّا
except that not
تُقَٰتِلُوا۟
you fight?]
ۖ
قَالُوا۟
They replied,
وَمَا
[And what is
لَنَآ
for us
أَلَّا
except not
نُقَٰتِلَ
we would fight
فِى
in
سَبِيلِ
way of
ٱللَّهِ
the One
وَقَدْ
while certainly
أُخْرِجْنَا
we were evicted
مِن
from
دِيَٰرِنَا
our homes,
وَأَبْنَآئِنَا
and our children as well?]
ۖ
فَلَمَّا
Then when
كُتِبَ
was ordained
عَلَيْهِمُ
upon them
ٱلْقِتَالُ
the fight,
تَوَلَّوْا۟
turned back
إِلَّا
except
قَلِيلًۭا
a handful
مِّنْهُمْ
of them;
ۗ
وَٱللَّهُ
and the One
عَلِيمٌۢ
knows
بِٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ
about the ones who are in darkness.
٢
٢٤٦
أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى ٱلْمَلَإِ مِنۢ بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مُوسَىٰٓ إِذْ قَالُوا۟ لِنَبِىٍّۢ لَّهُمُ ٱبْعَثْ لَنَا مَلِكًۭا نُّقَٰتِلْ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ ۖ قَالَ هَلْ عَسَيْتُمْ إِن كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ ٱلْقِتَالُ أَلَّا تُقَٰتِلُوا۟ ۖ قَالُوا۟ وَمَا لَنَآ أَلَّا نُقَٰتِلَ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَقَدْ أُخْرِجْنَا مِن دِيَٰرِنَا وَأَبْنَآئِنَا ۖ فَلَمَّا كُتِبَ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْقِتَالُ تَوَلَّوْا۟ إِلَّا قَلِيلًۭا مِّنْهُمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌۢ بِٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ
Do not you see at the Mullahs of bani Israel from after Moosa, when they said to a leader of theirs, [Charge for us a king, we will fight in way of the One.] The leader replied, [Is it suitable to you that ordained upon you is the fight, except that not you fight?] They replied, [And what is for us except not we would fight in way of the One while certainly we were evicted from our homes, and our children as well?] Then when was ordained upon them the fight, turned back except a handful of them; and the One knows about the ones who are in darkness.

Bethink thee of the leaders of the Children of Israel after Moses, how they said unto a prophet whom they had: Set up for us a king and we will fight in Allah's way. He said: Would ye then refrain from fighting if fighting were prescribed for you? They said: Why should we not fight in Allah's way when we have been driven from our dwellings with our children? Yet, when fighting was prescribed for them, they turned away, all save a few of them. Allah is aware of evil-doers.

Have you not regarded the elite of the Israelites after Moses, when they said to their prophet, [Appoint for us a king that we may fight in the way of Allah.] He said, [May it not be that you will not fight if fighting were prescribed for you?] They said, [Why should we not fight in the way of Allah, when we have been expelled from our homes and [separated from] our children?] So when fighting was prescribed for them, they turned back except a few of them, and Allah knows well the wrongdoers.

(Muhammad), remember that group of the Israelites after Moses who demanded a Prophet of their own to appoint a king for them who would lead them in the fight for the cause of God. Their Prophet then said, [What if you are ordered to fight and you disobey?] They said, [Why should we not fight for the cause of God when we and our sons have been expelled from our homes?] However, when they were ordered to fight, all refused except a few among them. God knows well the unjust.

But when fighting was ordained for them, they turned back, except a few of them, and Allah knows the unjust.

کیا تم نے موسیٰ علیھ السّلامکے بعد بنی اسرائیل کی اس جماعت کونہیں دیکھا جس نے اپنے نبی سے کہا کہ ہمارے واسطے ایک بادشاہ مقرر کیجئے تاکہ ہم راسِ خدا میں جہاد کریں. نبی نے فرمایا کہ اندیشہ یہ ہے کہ تم پر جہادواجب ہوجائے توتم جہاد نہ کرو. ان لوگوں نے کہا کہ ہم کیوںکر جہاد نہ کریں گے جب کہ ہمیں ہمارے گھروں اور بال بّچوںسے الگ نکال باہر کردیا گیا ہے. اس کے بعد جب جہاد واجب کردیا گیا تو تھوڑے سے افراد کے علاوہ سب منحرف ہوگئے اور اللہ ظالمین کو خوب جانتا ہے

پھر تم نے اُس معاملے پر بھی غور کیا، جو موسیٰؑ کے بعد سرداران بنی اسرائیل کو پیش آیا تھا؟ اُنہوں نے اپنے نبی سے کہا: ہمارے لیے ایک بادشاہ مقرر کر دو تاکہ ہم اللہ کی راہ میں جنگ کریں نبی نے پوچھا: کہیں ایسا تو نہ ہوگا کہ تم کو لڑائی کا حکم دیا جائے اور پھر تم نہ لڑو وہ کہنے لگے : بھلا یہ کیسے ہو سکتا ہے کہ ہم راہ خدا میں نہ لڑیں، جبکہ ہمیں اپنے گھروں سے نکال دیا گیا ہے اور ہمارے بال بچے ہم سے جدا کر دیے گئے ہیں مگر جب ان کو جنگ کا حکم دیا گیا، تو ایک قلیل تعداد کے سوا وہ سب پیٹھ موڑ گئے، اور اللہ ان میں سے ایک ایک ظالم کو جانتا ہے

اے محبوب! کیا تم نے نہ دیکھا بنی اسرائیل کے ایک گروہ کو جو موسیٰ کے بعد ہوا جب اپنے ایک پیغمبر سے بولے ہمارے لیے کھڑا کردو ایک بادشاہ کہ ہم خدا کی راہ میں لڑیں، نبی نے فرمایا کیا تمہارے انداز ایسے ہیں کہ تم پر جہاد فرض کیا جائے تو پھر نہ کرو، بولے ہمیں کیا ہوا کہ ہم اللہ کی راہ میں نہ لڑیں حالانکہ ہم نکالے گئے ہیں اپنے وطن اور اپنی اولاد سے تو پھر جب ان پر جہاد فرض کیا گیا منہ پھیر گئے مگر ان میں کے تھوڑے اور اللہ خوب جانتا ہے ظالموں کو،

کیا تم نے جناب موسیٰ کے بعد بنی اسرائیل کے سرداروں کو نہیں دیکھا کہ جب انہوں نے نبی(ص) سے کہا کہ ہمارے لئے ایک بادشاہ مقرر کر دیجئے تاکہ ہم (اس کی زیر قیادت) راہِ خدا میں جنگ کریں۔ اس نبی نے فرمایا کہیں ایسا نہ ہو کہ جب جنگ تم پر واجب ہو جائے۔ تو پھر تم جنگ نہ کرو۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ ہم کیونکر جنگ نہیں کریں گے؟ جبکہ ہمیں اپنے گھروں اور بال بچوں سے باہر نکال دیا گیا ہے۔ مگر جب جنگ ان پر واجب قرار دی گئی تو ان کے تھوڑے سے آدمیوں کے سوا باقی سب کے سب منحرف ہوگئے (پیٹھ پھیر گئے) اور خدا ظالموں کو خوب جانتا ہے۔

This website is a work of passion. It exists only for a couple of reasons:

1) I wanted to understand the Book without involving any second-party sources of guidance i.e. exegesis, or Asbab-e-Nuzul, or extra-Quranic ahadith, etc.
2) You must also know what the bare truth is, so we can work together.

Because the process must be transparent, the entire website is available for you to download. You can go through the code, and if you can make any improvements to this process, you are most welcome to. It is a humble request to update me regarding the improvements so I can also update myself.
