وَلَقَدْ
And for certain
صَرَّفْنَا
We have made distinct
فِى
in
هَٰذَا
this
ٱلْقُرْءَانِ
Proclamatory Reading
لِلنَّاسِ
for the people
مِن
from
كُلِّ
all
مَثَلٍۢ
examples;
ۚ
وَكَانَ
while has been,
ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ
the human, of
أَكْثَرَ
many
شَىْءٍۢ
things,
جَدَلًۭا
argumentative.
١٨
٥٤
وَلَقَدْ صَرَّفْنَا فِى هَٰذَا ٱلْقُرْءَانِ لِلنَّاسِ مِن كُلِّ مَثَلٍۢ ۚ وَكَانَ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ أَكْثَرَ شَىْءٍۢ جَدَلًۭا And for certain We have made distinct in this Proclamatory Reading for the people from all examples; while has been, the human, of many things, argumentative.

And verily We have displayed for mankind in this Qur'an all manner of similitudes, but man is more than anything contentious. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

We have certainly interspersed this Quran with every kind of parable for the people. But man is the most disputatious of creatures. - Qarai, Ali Quli

اورہم نے اس قرآن میں لوگوں کے لئے ساری مثالیں اُلٹ پلٹ کر بیان کردی ہیں اور انسان تو سب سے زیادہ جھگڑا کرنے والاہے - Jawadi, Zeeshan

ہم نے اِس قرآن میں لوگوں کو طرح طرح سے سمجھایا مگر انسان بڑا ہی جھگڑالو واقع ہوا ہے - Maududi, Abul A'ala

اور بیشک ہم نے لوگوں کے لیے اس قرآن میں ہر قسم کی مثل طرح طرح بیان فرمائی اور آدمی ہر چیز سے بڑھ کر جھگڑالو ہے - Ahmed Raza

وَمَا
And not
مَنَعَ
prevented
ٱلنَّاسَ
the people
أَن
that
يُؤْمِنُوٓا۟
they have conviction
إِذْ
when
جَآءَهُمُ
came to them
ٱلْهُدَىٰ
the guidance,
وَيَسْتَغْفِرُوا۟
and that they ask for forgiveness of
رَبَّهُمْ
their Rabb,
إِلَّآ
except
أَن
that
تَأْتِيَهُمْ
they're presented with
سُنَّةُ
ways of
ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
the former people
أَوْ
or
يَأْتِيَهُمُ
comes to them
ٱلْعَذَابُ
the punishment
قُبُلًۭا
of before.
١٨
٥٥
وَمَا مَنَعَ ٱلنَّاسَ أَن يُؤْمِنُوٓا۟ إِذْ جَآءَهُمُ ٱلْهُدَىٰ وَيَسْتَغْفِرُوا۟ رَبَّهُمْ إِلَّآ أَن تَأْتِيَهُمْ سُنَّةُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ أَوْ يَأْتِيَهُمُ ٱلْعَذَابُ قُبُلًۭا And not prevented the people that they have conviction when came to them the guidance, and that they ask for forgiveness of their Rabb, except that they're presented with ways of the former people or comes to them the punishment of before.
⦿
And naught hindereth mankind from believing when the guidance cometh unto them, and from asking forgiveness of their Lord unless (it be that they wish) that the judgment of the men of old should come upon them or (that) they should be confronted with the Doom. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Nothing has kept these people from believing and pleading to their Lord for forgiveness when guidance came to them, except [their demand] that the precedent of the ancients come to pass for them, or that the punishment come to them, face to face. - Qarai, Ali Quli

What prevents people from having faith when guidance comes to them or from asking for forgiveness from their Lord before they face the kind of torment that the ancient people experienced or a new form of torment. - Sarwar, Muhammad

And nothing prevents men from believing when the guidance comes to them, and from asking forgiveness of their Lord, except that what happened to the ancients should overtake them, or that the chastisement should come face to face with them. - Shakir, Habib

Nothing prevents people from believing when they are given guidance or from asking forgiveness of their Lord, but the fact that the fate of the previous peoples should befall them or to have the punishment come upon them face to face. - Wahiduddin Khan

اور لوگوں کے لئے ہدایت کے آجانے کے بعد کون سی شے مانع ہوگئی ہے کہ یہ ایمان نہ لائیں اوراپنے پروردگار سے استغفار نہ کریں مگر یہ کہ ان تک بھی اگلے لوگوں کا طریقہ آجائے یا ان کے سامنے سے بھی عذاب آجائے - Jawadi, Zeeshan

اُن کے سامنے جب ہدایت آئی تو اسے ماننے اور اپنے رب کے حضور معافی چاہنے سے آخر اُن کوکس چیز نے روک دیا؟ اِس کے سوا اور کچھ نہیں کہ وہ منتظر ہیں کہ اُن کے ساتھ بھی وہی کچھ ہو جو پچھلی قوموں کے ساتھ ہو چکا ہے، یا یہ کہ وہ عذاب کو سامنے آتے دیکھ لیں! - Maududi, Abul A'ala

اور آدمیوں کو کسی چیز نے اس سے روکا کہ ایمان لاتے جب ہدایت ان کے پاس آئی اور اپنے رب سے معافی مانگتے مگر یہ کہ ان پر اگلوں کا دستور آئے یا ان پر قسم قسم کا عذاب آئے، - Ahmed Raza

وَمَا
And not
نُرْسِلُ
We send
ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ
the Messengers
إِلَّا
except
مُبَشِّرِينَ
as bearers of good news
وَمُنذِرِينَ
and bearers of warnings,
ۚ
وَيُجَٰدِلُ
while argue,
ٱلَّذِينَ
the ones who
كَفَرُوا۟
are in denial,
بِٱلْبَٰطِلِ
with fiction,
لِيُدْحِضُوا۟
for disproving
بِهِ
with it
ٱلْحَقَّ
the fact,
ۖ
وَٱتَّخَذُوٓا۟
and they take
ءَايَٰتِى
My signs,
وَمَآ
and what
أُنذِرُوا۟
they're warned for,
هُزُوًۭا
as mockery.
١٨
٥٦
وَمَا نُرْسِلُ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ إِلَّا مُبَشِّرِينَ وَمُنذِرِينَ ۚ وَيُجَٰدِلُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِٱلْبَٰطِلِ لِيُدْحِضُوا۟ بِهِ ٱلْحَقَّ ۖ وَٱتَّخَذُوٓا۟ ءَايَٰتِى وَمَآ أُنذِرُوا۟ هُزُوًۭا And not We send the Messengers except as bearers of good news and bearers of warnings, while argue, the ones who are in denial, with fiction, for disproving with it the fact, and they take My signs, and what they're warned for, as mockery.

We send not the messengers save as bearers of good news and warners. Those who disbelieve contend with falsehood in order to refute the Truth thereby. And they take Our revelations and that wherewith they are threatened as a jest. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

We do not send the apostles except as bearers of good news and as warners, but those who are faithless dispute fallaciously to refute thereby the truth, having taken My signs and what they are warned of in derision. - Qarai, Ali Quli

The only reason for Our sending the Messengers is to give the human being the glad news of Our mercy and to warn him about Our wrath. The disbelievers argue by false means to refute the Truth. They mock My miracles and warnings. - Sarwar, Muhammad

And We do not send apostles but as givers of good news and warning, and those who disbelieve make a false contention that they may render null thereby the truth, and they take My communications and that with which they are warned for a mockery. - Shakir, Habib

We only send the messengers to bring good news and to give warning. Those who deny use fallacious arguments to nullify the truth, treating My revelations and My warnings as a jest. - Wahiduddin Khan

اور ہم تو رسولوں کو صرف بشارت دینے والا اور عذاب سے ڈرانے والا بناکر بھیجتے ہیں اور کفاّر باطل کے ذریعہ جھگڑا کرتے ہیں کہ اس کے ذریعہ کو برباد کردیں اور انہوں نے ہماری نشانیوں کو اور جس بات سے ڈرائے گئے تھے سب کو ایک مذاق بنالیا ہے - Jawadi, Zeeshan

رسولوں کو ہم اس کام کے سوا اور کسی غرض کے لیے نہیں بھیجتے کہ وہ بشارت اور تنبیہ کی خدمت انجام دے دیں مگر کافروں کا حال یہ ہے کہ وہ باطل کے ہتھیار لے کر حق کو نیچا دکھانے کی کوشش کرتے ہیں اور انہوں نے میری آیات کو اور اُن تنبیہات کو جو انہیں کی گئیں مذاق بنا لیا ہے - Maududi, Abul A'ala

اور ہم رسولوں کو نہیں بھیجتے مگر خوشی ڈر سنانے والے اور جو کافر ہیں وہ باطل کے ساتھ جھگڑتے ہیں کہ اس سے حق کو ہٹادیں اور انہوں نے میری آیتوں کی اور جو ڈر انہیں سناتے گئے تھے، - Ahmed Raza

اور ہم رسولوں کو نہیں بھیجتے۔ مگر خوشخبری دینے والا اور ڈرانے والا بنا کر۔ اور جو کافر ہیں وہ باطل کے (ہتھیار سے) جھگڑتے ہیں تاکہ اس کے ذریعہ سے حق کو باطل کر دیں اور انہوں نے میری آیتوں کو اور جس چیز (عذاب) سے انہیں ڈرایا گیا تھا اس کو مذاق بنا رکھا ہے۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

وَمَنْ
And who
أَظْلَمُ
is more unjust
مِمَّن
than the one who
ذُكِّرَ
is reminded
بِـَٔايَٰتِ
about signs of
رَبِّهِۦ
his Rabb,
فَأَعْرَضَ
but turns away
عَنْهَا
from them
وَنَسِىَ
and forgets
مَا
what
قَدَّمَتْ
have sent forth
يَدَاهُ
his hands?
ۚ
إِنَّا
Certainly
جَعَلْنَا
We have placed
عَلَىٰ
upon
قُلُوبِهِمْ
their hearts
أَكِنَّةً
a concealment
أَن
should
يَفْقَهُوهُ
they understand it
وَفِىٓ
and within
ءَاذَانِهِمْ
their ears
وَقْرًۭا
deafness.
ۖ
وَإِن
And if
تَدْعُهُمْ
you invite them
إِلَى
to
ٱلْهُدَىٰ
the guidance,
فَلَن
still not
يَهْتَدُوٓا۟
they can be guided
إِذًا
till
أَبَدًۭا
forever.
١٨
٥٧
وَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّن ذُكِّرَ بِـَٔايَٰتِ رَبِّهِۦ فَأَعْرَضَ عَنْهَا وَنَسِىَ مَا قَدَّمَتْ يَدَاهُ ۚ إِنَّا جَعَلْنَا عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمْ أَكِنَّةً أَن يَفْقَهُوهُ وَفِىٓ ءَاذَانِهِمْ وَقْرًۭا ۖ وَإِن تَدْعُهُمْ إِلَى ٱلْهُدَىٰ فَلَن يَهْتَدُوٓا۟ إِذًا أَبَدًۭا And who is more unjust than the one who is reminded about signs of his Rabb, but turns away from them and forgets what have sent forth his hands? Certainly We have placed upon their hearts a concealment should they understand it and within their ears deafness. And if you invite them to the guidance, still not they can be guided till forever.

And who doth greater wrong than he who hath been reminded of the revelations of his Lord, yet turneth away from them and forgetteth what his hands send forward (to the Judgment)? Lo! on their hearts We have placed coverings so that they understand not, and in their ears a deafness. And though thou call them to the guidance, in that case they can never be led aright. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Who is a greater wrongdoer than he who is reminded of the signs of his Lord, whereat he disregards them and forgets what his hands have sent ahead? Indeed We have cast veils on their hearts lest they should understand it, and a deafness into their ears; and if you invite them to guidance they will never [let themselves] be guided. - Qarai, Ali Quli

Who are more unjust than those who are reminded of the revelations of their Lord but have disregarded them and have forgotten their deeds? We have veiled their hearts and sealed their ears so that they cannot understand. Even if you call them to the right path, they will never accept guidance. - Sarwar, Muhammad

And who is more unjust than he who is reminded of the communications of his Lord, then he turns away from them and forgets what his two hands have sent before? Surely We have placed veils over their hearts lest they should understand it and a heaviness in their ears; and if you call them to the guidance, they will not ever follow the right course in that case. - Shakir, Habib

Who is more wicked than he who has been reminded of the revelations of his Lord, then turns away from them and forgets what his own hands have done? We have cast veils over their hearts lest they understand Our words, and made them hard of hearing. Call them as you may to the right path, they shall never be guided. - Wahiduddin Khan

اور اس سے بڑا ظالم کون ہوگا جسے آیات هالٰہٰیہ کی یاد دلائی جائے اور پھر اس سے اعراض کرے اور اپنے سابقہ اعمال کو بھول جائے ہم نے ان کے دلوں پر پردے ڈال دیئے ہیں کہ یہ حق کو سمجھ سکیں اور ان کے کانوں میں بہراپن ہے اور اگر آپ انہیں ہدایت کی طرف بلائیں گے بھی تو یہ ہرگز ہدایت حاصل نہ کریں گے - Jawadi, Zeeshan

اور اُس شخص سے بڑھ کر ظالم اور کون ہے جسے اس کے رب کی آیات سنا کر نصیحت کی جائے اور وہ اُن سے منہ پھیرے اور اُس برے انجام کو بھول جائے جس کا سر و سامان اس نے اپنے لیے خود اپنے ہاتھوں کیا ہے؟ (جن لوگوں نے یہ روش اختیار کی ہے) ان کے دلوں پر ہم نے غلاف چڑھا دیے ہیں جو انہیں قرآن کی بات نہیں سمجھنے دیتے، اور اُن کے کانوں میں ہم نے گرانی پیدا کر دی ہے تم انہیں ہدایت کی طرف کتنا ہی بلاؤ، وہ اس حالت میں کبھی ہدایت نہ پائیں گے - Maududi, Abul A'ala

ان کی ہنسی بنالی اور اس سے بڑھ کر ظالم کون جسے اس کے رب کی آیتیں یاد دلائی جائیں تو وہ ان سے منہ پھیرلے اور اس کے ہاتھ جو آگے بھیج چکے اسے بھول جائے ہم نے ان کے دلوں پر غلاف کردیے ہیں کہ قرآن نہ سمجھیں اور ان کے کانوں میں گرانی اور اگر تم انہیں ہدایت کی طرف بلاؤ تو جب بھی ہرگز کبھی راہ نہ پائیں گے - Ahmed Raza

اور اس شخص سے بڑھ کر ظالم کون ہے جسے اس کے پروردگار کی نشانیوں کے ذریعہ سے نصیحت کی جائے مگر وہ ان سے روگردانی کرے اور اپنے ان (گناہوں) کو بھول جائے۔ جو وہ اپنے ہاتھوں پہلے بھیج چکا ہے ہم نے ان کے دلوں پر پردے ڈال دیئے ہیں کہ اس کو سمجھیں اور ان کے کانوں میں گرانی ڈال دی ہے۔ کہ اس کو سنیں (یہ حق سے اعراض کرنے کی سزا ہے) اور اگر انہیں ہدایت کی طرف بلائیں تو وہ اس حالت میں کبھی راہِ راست پر نہیں آئیں گے۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

And your Rabb is
ٱلْغَفُورُ
the Forgiver,
ذُو
possessor of
ٱلرَّحْمَةِ
the blessing;
ۖ
لَوْ
If
يُؤَاخِذُهُم
He were to take them
بِمَا
due to
كَسَبُوا۟
their earning,
لَعَجَّلَ
forsure instantly
لَهُمُ
for them would be
ٱلْعَذَابَ
the punishment,
ۚ
بَل
but
لَّهُم
for them is
مَّوْعِدٌۭ
an appointed time,
لَّن
never
يَجِدُوا۟
they would find
مِن
from
دُونِهِۦ
under Him
مَوْئِلًۭا
an escape.

وَرَبُّكَ ٱلْغَفُورُ ذُو ٱلرَّحْمَةِ ۖ لَوْ يُؤَاخِذُهُم بِمَا كَسَبُوا۟ لَعَجَّلَ لَهُمُ ٱلْعَذَابَ ۚ بَل لَّهُم مَّوْعِدٌۭ لَّن يَجِدُوا۟ مِن دُونِهِۦ مَوْئِلًۭا And your Rabb is the Forgiver, possessor of the blessing; If He were to take them due to their earning, forsure instantly for them would be the punishment, but for them is an appointed time, never they would find from under Him an escape.

Thy Lord is the Forgiver, Full of Mercy. If He took them to task (now) for what they earn, He would hasten on the doom for them; but theirs is an appointed term from which they will find no escape. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Your Lord is the All-forgiving dispenser of mercy. Were He to take them to task because of what they have committed, He would have surely hastened their punishment. But they have a tryst, [when] they will not find a refuge besides Him. - Qarai, Ali Quli

وَتِلْكَ
Thus these are
ٱلْقُرَىٰٓ
the settlements
أَهْلَكْنَٰهُمْ
which We have perished
لَمَّا
when
ظَلَمُوا۟
they were in injustice,
وَجَعَلْنَا
and We placed
لِمَهْلِكِهِم
for their demise
مَّوْعِدًۭا
a calculated time.
Thus these are the settlements which We have perished when they were in injustice, and We placed for their demise a calculated time.

And (all) those townships! We destroyed them when they did wrong, and We appointed a fixed time for their destruction. - Pickthall, Marmaduke
