لَا جَرَمَ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَعْلَمُ مَا يُسِرُّونَ وَمَا يُعْلِنُونَ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ لَا يُحِبُّ ٱلْمُسْتَكْبِرِينَ

Assuredly Allah knoweth that which they keep hidden and that which they proclaim. Lo! He loveth not the proud.

Undoubtedly, Allah knows whatever they hide and whatever they disclose. Indeed, He does not like the arrogant.

The Bee [ 16:24 ] النحل

وَإِذَا

And whenever

قِيلَ

was said

لَهُم

to them,

مَّاذَآ

[What is that which

أَنزَلَ

has alighted

رَبُّكُمْ

your Rabb?]

قَالُوٓا۟

They said,

أَسَٰطِيرُ

[Legends of

ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

the previous ones.]

١٦

٢٤

وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُم مَّاذَآ أَنزَلَ رَبُّكُمْ ۙ قَالُوٓا۟ أَسَٰطِيرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

And whenever was said to them, [What is that which has alighted your Rabb?] They said, [Legends of the previous ones.]

And when it is said unto them: What hath your Lord revealed? they say: (Mere) fables of the men of old,

اور جب ان سے پوچھا جاتا ہے کہ تمہارے پروردگار نے کیا کیا نازل کیا ہے تو کہتے ہیں کہ یہ سب پچھلے لوگوں کے افسانے ہیں

That they may bear their burdens undiminished on the Day of Resurrection, with somewhat of the burdens of those whom they mislead without knowledge. Ah! evil is that which they bear!

[with the result] that they will bear the full weight of their own burden on the Day of Resurrection, along with part of the burden of those whom they mislead without any knowledge. Behold! Evil is what they bear!

Besides their own burdens, on the Day of Judgment, they will have to carry on the burdens of those whom they have misled without knowledge. How evil that burden will be!

یہ باتیں وہ اس لیے کرتے ہیں کہ قیامت کے روز اپنے بوجھ بھی پورے اٹھائیں، اور ساتھ ساتھ کچھ اُن لوگوں کے بوجھ بھی سمیٹیں جنہیں یہ بر بنائے جہالت گمراہ کر رہے ہیں دیکھو! کیسی سخت ذمہ داری ہے جو یہ اپنے سر لے رہے ہیں

کہ قیامت کے دن اپنے بوجھ پورے اٹھائیں اور کچھ بوجھ ان کے جنہیں اپنی جہالت سے گمراہ کرتے ہیں، سن لو کیا ہی برا بوجھ اٹھاتے ہیں،

قَدْ مَكَرَ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ فَأَتَى ٱللَّهُ بُنْيَٰنَهُم مِّنَ ٱلْقَوَاعِدِ فَخَرَّ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلسَّقْفُ مِن فَوْقِهِمْ وَأَتَىٰهُمُ ٱلْعَذَابُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَا يَشْعُرُونَ

Those before them plotted, so Allah struck at the foundations of their building, and then the roof fell down upon them from above them, and the doom came on them whence they knew not;

Those who were before them [had also] schemed. Then Allah came at their edifice from the foundations and the roof fell down upon them from above and the punishment overtook them whence they were not aware.

Those who went before them had also devised evil plans. God demolished their houses, destroying their very foundations. Their ceilings toppled on their heads and torment struck them from a direction which they had never expected.

Those before them did indeed devise plans, but Allah demolished their building from the foundations, so the roof fell down on them from above them, and the punishment came to them from whence they did not perceive.

یقینا ان سے پہلے والوں نے بھی مکاریاں کی تھیں تو عذاب الٰہی ان کی تعمیرات تک آیا اور اسے جڑ سے اکھاڑ پھینک دیا اور ان کے سروں پر چھت گر پڑی اور عذاب ایسے انداز سے آیا کہ انہیں شعور بھی نہ پیدا ہوسکا

اِن سے پہلے بھی بہت سے لوگ (حق کو نیچا دکھانے کے لیے) ایسی ہی مکاریاں کر چکے ہیں، تو دیکھ لو کہ اللہ نے اُن کے مکر کی عمارت جڑ سے اکھاڑ پھینکی اور اس کی چھت اوپر سے ان کے سر پر آ رہی اور ایسے رخ سے ان پر عذاب آیا جدھر سے اس کے آنے کا اُن کو گمان تک نہ تھا

بیشک ان سے اگلوں نے فریب کیا تھا تو اللہ نے ان کی چنائی کو نیو سے (تعمیر کو بنیاد) سے لیا تو اوپر سے ان پر چھت گر پڑی اور عذاب ان پر وہاں سے آیا جہاں کی انہیں خبر نہ تھی

جو لوگ ان سے پہلے گزر چکے ہیں انہوں نے بھی (دعوتِ حق کے خلاف) مکاریاں کی تھیں تو اللہ تعالیٰ نے ان کی (مکاریوں والی) عمارت بنیاد سے اکھیڑ دی اور اس کی چھت اوپر سے ان پر آپڑی اور ان پر اس طرف سے عذاب آیا جدھر سے ان کو وہم و گمان بھی نہ تھا۔

ثُمَّ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ يُخْزِيهِمْ وَيَقُولُ أَيْنَ شُرَكَآءِىَ ٱلَّذِينَ كُنتُمْ تُشَٰٓقُّونَ فِيهِمْ ۚ قَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْعِلْمَ إِنَّ ٱلْخِزْىَ ٱلْيَوْمَ وَٱلسُّوٓءَ عَلَى ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ

Then on the Day of Resurrection He will disgrace them and will say: Where are My partners, for whose sake ye opposed (My guidance)? Those who have been given knowledge will say: Disgrace this day and evil are upon the disbelievers,

Then, on the Day of Resurrection, He will disgrace them, and say, [Where are My “partners” for whose sake you used to defy [Allah]?] Those who were given knowledge will say, [Indeed today disgrace and distress pursue the faithless.]

God will humiliate them on the Day of Judgment and ask them, [Where are the idols which you had considered equal to Me and which were the cause of hostility and animosity among you?] The people who were given knowledge will say, [It is the unbelievers who face disgrace and trouble on this day.]

Then on the resurrection day He will bring them to disgrace and say: Where are the associates you gave Me, for whose sake you became hostile? Those who are given the knowledge will say: Surely the disgrace and the evil are this day upon the unbelievers:

Then on the Day of Resurrection He will disgrace them, and say, [Where are My partners for whose sake you opposed [My guidance]?] Those given knowledge will say, [This Day humiliation and affliction will surely befall those who have been denying the truth.]

اس کے بعد وہ روزِ قیامت انہیں رسوا کرے گا اور پوچھے گا کہاں ہیں وہ میرے شریک جن کے بارے میں تم جھگڑا کیا کرتے تھے - اس وقت صاحبان هعلم کہیں گے کہ آج رسوائی اور برائی ان کافروں کے لئے ثابت ہوگئی ہے

پھر قیامت کے روز اللہ اُنہیں ذلیل و خوار کرے گا اور اُن سے کہے گا ——بتاؤ اب کہاں ہیں میرے وہ شریک جن کے لیے تم (اہل حق سے) جھگڑے کیا کرتے تھے؟—— جن لوگوں کو دنیا میں علم حاصل تھا وہ کہیں گے ——آج رسوائی اور بدبختی ہے کافروں کے لیے——

پھر قیامت کے دن انہیں رسوا کرے گا اور فرمائے گا کہاں ہیں میرے وہ شریک جن میں تم جھگڑتے تھے علم والے کہیں گے آج ساری رسوائی اور برائی کافروں پر ہے

پھر قیامت کے دن وہ (اللہ) انہیں ذلیل و خوار کرے گا اور کہے گا کہ (بتاؤ) کہاں ہیں وہ میرے شریک جن کے بارے میں تم (اہلِ حق سے) لڑا جھگڑا کرتے تھے (اس وقت) وہ لوگ کہیں گے جن کو (حقیقت کا) علم دیا گیا تھا کہ آج کے دن رسوائی اور برائی ان کافروں کے لئے ہے۔

ٱلَّذِينَ تَتَوَفَّىٰهُمُ ٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ ظَالِمِىٓ أَنفُسِهِمْ ۖ فَأَلْقَوُا۟ ٱلسَّلَمَ مَا كُنَّا نَعْمَلُ مِن سُوٓءٍۭ ۚ بَلَىٰٓ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلِيمٌۢ بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ

⦿

Whom the angels cause to die while they are wronging themselves. Then will they make full submission (saying): We used not to do any wrong. Nay! Surely Allah is Knower of what ye used to do.

⦿

—Those whom the angels take away while they were wronging themselves. Thereat they submit: [We were not doing any evil!] [Yes, [the angels say to them,] indeed Allah knows best what you used to do!

The unjust, who will be seized by the angels, will submit themselves, obey, and say, [We were not evil-doers.] But God certainly knows what they had been doing.

Those whom the angels cause to die while they are unjust to themselves. Then would they offer submission: We used not to do any evil. Aye! surely Allah knows what you did.

Those whose lives the angels take while they are wronging their own souls will offer submission saying, [We were not doing anything evil!] [Indeed!] the angels will reply, [God is aware of what you have been doing,

جنہیں ملائکہ اس عالم میں اٹھاتے ہیں کہ وہ اپنے نفس کے ظالم ہوتے ہیں تو اس وقت اطاعت کی پیشکش کرتے ہیں کہ ہم تو کوئی برائی نہیں کرتے تھے. بیشک خدا خوب جانتا ہے کہ تم کیا کیا کرتے تھے

ہاں، اُنہی کافروں کے لیے جو اپنے نفس پر ظلم کرتے ہوئے جب ملائکہ کے ہاتھوں گرفتار ہوتے ہیں تو (سرکشی چھوڑ کر) فوراً ڈگیں ڈال دیتے ہیں اور کہتے ہیں ——ہم تو کوئی قصور نہیں کر رہے تھے—— ملائکہ جواب دیتے ہیں ——کر کیسے نہیں رہے تھے! اللہ تمہارے کرتوتوں سے خوب واقف ہے

وہ کہ فرشتے ان کی جان نکالتے ہیں اس حال پر کیا وہ اپنا برا کررہے تھے اب صلح ڈالیں گے کہ ہم تو کچھ برائی نہ کرتے تھے ہاں کیوں نہیں، بیشک اللہ خوب جانتا ہے جو تمہارے کوتک (برے اعمال) تھے

کہ جن کی روحیں فرشتوں نے اس حال میں قبض کی تھیں کہ وہ اپنے اوپر ظلم کر رہے تھے اس وقت انہوں نے (سپر ڈال دی تھی اور) صلح کی پیشکش کرتے ہوئے کہا تھا کہ ہم تو کوئی برائی نہیں کرتے تھے (ان سے کہا گیا) ہاں (تم نے ضرور برائی کی تھی) تم لوگ جو کچھ کرتے رہے ہو اللہ اس سے بخوبی واقف ہے۔

فَٱدْخُلُوٓا۟ أَبْوَٰبَ جَهَنَّمَ خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا ۖ فَلَبِئْسَ مَثْوَى ٱلْمُتَكَبِّرِينَ

So enter the gates of hell, to dwell therein for ever. Woeful indeed will be the lodging of the arrogant.

Enter the gates of hell to remain in it [forever]. Evil is the [final] abode of the arrogant.]

They will be commanded to enter hell to live therein forever. How terrible will be the place of the proud ones!

اب جہنم کے دروازوں میں جاؤ کہ ہمیشہ اس میں رہو، تو کیا ہی برا ٹھکانا مغروروں کا،

وَقِيلَ لِلَّذِينَ ٱتَّقَوْا۟ مَاذَآ أَنزَلَ رَبُّكُمْ ۚ قَالُوا۟ خَيْرًۭا ۗ لِّلَّذِينَ أَحْسَنُوا۟ فِى هَٰذِهِ ٱلدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةٌۭ ۚ وَلَدَارُ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ خَيْرٌۭ ۚ وَلَنِعْمَ دَارُ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ

And it is said unto those who ward off (evil): What hath your Lord revealed? They say: Good. For those who do good in this world there is a good (reward) and the home of the Hereafter will be better. Pleasant indeed will be the home of those who ward off (evil) -

But those who were Godwary will be asked, [What is it that your Lord has sent down?] They will say, [Good.] For those who do good in this world there will be a good [reward], and the abode of the Hereafter is better, and the abode of the Godwary is surely excellent:

The pious ones will be asked, [What did your Lord reveal to you?] They will reply, [He revealed only good.] The share of the righteous ones is virtue in this world and greater virtue in the life to come. How blessed will be the dwelling of the pious ones!

And it is said to those who guard (against evil): What is it that your Lord has revealed? They say, Good. For those who do good in this world is good, and certainly the abode of the hereafter is better; and certainly most excellent is the abode of those who guard (against evil);

جَنَّٰتُ عَدْنٍۢ يَدْخُلُونَهَا تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَٰرُ ۖ لَهُمْ فِيهَا مَا يَشَآءُونَ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يَجْزِى ٱللَّهُ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ

Gardens of Eden which they enter, underneath which rivers flow, wherein they have what they will. Thus Allah repayeth those who ward off (evil),

the Gardens of Eden, which they will enter, with streams running in them. There they will have whatever they wish, and thus does Allah reward the Godwary

They will be admitted into the gardens of Eden wherein steams flow and they will have therein whatever they want. This is how God will reward the pious ones.

Those whom the angels cause to die (when they are) good. They say: Peace be unto you! Enter the Garden because of what ye used to do.

هَلْ يَنظُرُونَ إِلَّآ أَن تَأْتِيَهُمُ ٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ أَوْ يَأْتِىَ أَمْرُ رَبِّكَ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ فَعَلَ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ وَمَا ظَلَمَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ وَلَٰكِن كَانُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ يَظْلِمُونَ

Await they aught say that the angels should come unto them or thy Lord's command should come to pass? Even so did those before them. Allah wronged them not, but they did wrong themselves,

Do they not consider that the angels may come to them, or your Lord]s edict may come? Those who were before them had acted likewise; Allah did not wrong them, but they used to wrong themselves.

Are they (the disbelievers) waiting for the angels and the decree of your Lord to be fulfilled before they believe? The people who lived before them had also done the same thing. God did not do injustice to them, but they wronged themselves.

They do not wait aught but that the angels should come to them or that the commandment of your Lord should come to pass. Thus did those before them; and Allah was not unjust to them, but they were unjust to themselves.

اے محمدؐ، اب جو یہ لوگ انتظار کر رہے ہیں تو اِس کے سوا اب اور کیا باقی رہ گیا ہے کہ ملائکہ ہی آ پہنچیں، یا تیرے رب کا فیصلہ صادر ہو جائے؟ اِس طرح کی ڈھٹائی اِن سے پہلے بہت سے لوگ کر چکے ہیں پھر جو کچھ اُن کے ساتھ ہوا وہ اُن پر اللہ کا ظلم نہ تھا بلکہ اُن کا اپنا ظلم تھا جو اُنہوں نے خود اپنے اوپر کیا

1) I wanted to understand the Book without involving any second-party sources of guidance i.e. exegesis, or Asbab-e-Nuzul, or extra-Quranic ahadith, etc.
2) You must also know what the bare truth is, so we can work together.
